Regular 171 Madison, AL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey everybody. Haven't posted in this thread yet, but I've been lurking for quite a while. Just got my condo reservations squared away and I wanted to let everybody know that the lakewharf condos (across from Pineapple Willy's) still has units and offers a 15% discount for IM athletes (but you gotta ask). I got a 3 bedroom for like 120 a night after the discount. Thanks! Eric |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Just ran my longest run of the year at 17 miles and that on the heals on Sunday's 121 miler with tri-ghost. I've had to deal with unusual cramping in the lower inner quads. This has had me writhing around on the floor like an imbecile. Thankfully I do it in my house and my kids and wife are used to it. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Random IM stuff going on in my world: It's been raining all day for 3 days so I put my Ordu on the CT for bike workout. Youngest two daughter's brought up a road bike and another trainer set it up next to mine and are riding while playing wii. Our youngest asked me if I was going to start packing for IMFL. I was like what? She responded, you say you are less stressed out when you pack for your IM early. Well not quite this early. Training for my 3rd IM isn't as exciting as first or second. Seems a bit of a grind and not as fun. The newness & thrill of doing xxx length workout this week and next week even longer all for the first time is gone. I feel like I'm in a tri funk. I'm a numbers person just how I'm wired and with time off this spring/summer with Lyme's/surgery I'm slower than in the past and it annoys me. I wish I could be happy just to train but right now for 3rd IM not so much. |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread ras26 - 2010-08-23 3:56 PM I feel behind too, and it's my first, so I'm trying not to freak out. I'm getting my biking time in on the trainer and am going to go out for the next long ride to the Eastern shore for some flat outside riding. Swimming is still slow compared to many, but comfortable. The run is the scary part. I did an 8 mile run/walk a few weeks ago out of the blue and it felt ok, so I'm trying to build back up, but it's still not the mileage I feel like I *should* be putting in. Please tell me my marathon suffering experience will get me through the end of the IM! At this point before my first IM I was freaking out too. Then I met a guy at an Oly who told me, "there are people who live close to the race who just ride a little and swim a little. They show up for the race with just enough fitness to make the swim and bike cut-offs, then they walk the marathon." I couldn't believe it, but he assured me that it was true, and added that I could probably do better than they will with training for the oly. You just got married, so of course your training is a little on the light side. One of the things you learn in IM is: Access, evaluate, decide, implement, adapt. We've got 10 weeks left. Your swim looks pretty good so I'd suggest get out on that bike as much as possible. Figure out nutrition for your long bike ride. Plan to walk a lot. (I'm no coach so take that for what it's worth) Good luck - see you there! Edited by jashac 2010-08-24 6:09 PM |

Phatknot, pretty awesome 17 miles after a 121 mile ride. You're just in a different class than some of us. (must like pain more than me ) |

Make sure you take a moment to remind her how special she is to all of us in the BT family. tell her she is kicking butkus on her comback from Lyme's disease and knee scope. |

Kathy's come back is pretty amazing. I had knee surgery a while ago and it took me FOREVER to get myself motivated to get going again. I tend to let injuries side track me, but she is completely embracing the challenge and getting out there to get the time in. I'm very inspired by her A favourtie saying of mine is "whatever is hard to accomplish is sweet to remember". Kathy - Just think of how sweet this will be to remember when you think that you went from knee surgery to Ironman in 4.5 months. That really is truly amazing. Keep up the great work everyone. And Phatknot, slow is NOT the word I would use to describe either your long run or your long bike. Both are really impressive to me |

This is my second time at Florida and my volume is good and I'm feeling good....But, I can't lose any weight!!! I'm a big girl to start with. I have always been a 12-14. But I'm still 10-15 lbs. heavier then last time. I do not want to race at this weight. I'm so pissed off that the scale is not moving in the right direction. I eat rather healthy, I have stopped drinking alcohol (maybe have one beer a week). I don't get it. I guess I need to count every stupid calorie but with work, family, training..... It's just more homework. Ok, vent over!!! |

New user 5 Youngstown/Kent, OH | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread It seems like everyone's training is going well. This will be my first IM and I am just looking to finish strong and not end up in the med tent. Back when the oil fiasco was in full gear I registered for the B2B Full as a backup to IMFL. However it seems like things have calmed down (or at least the News networks have calmed down). I have to start thinking about accommodations/airfare/vacation time from work, etc. Am I safe with sticking with IMFL? I would rather do IMFL then B2B but would rather have a full Tri then a Du. From those who know what is going on in PCB does it look good or bad for a swim? |

I live in FL and although I am quite a distance from the spill I can tell you that since its been cappeed we really have not heard a thing about it on the media if that makes you feel any better about it |

Member 34 Philly | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ahhh, nice. So it's freak-out time! Cool! I read about this once... something about the 7 stages of IM..? I think my wife is officially bored of hearing me talk about the race. I can't keep my mind off it, since my training is so ingrained into my daily life - well, 6 days out of each week. I have a chart on the fridge that I cross off each training session with a red sharpie. I think she thinks I'm nutz, and it's likely that she has already made reservations for me at Trembling Hills, Monday after the race! I've been staging my training in phases, since my "B" and "C" races have been getting incrementally longer. I just did a beach sprint race this past weekend as a fun/training event, and it was really confidence-inspiring to see how I've progressed and got faster. I PR'd for this event, beating my last time by 3 minutes. My bike speed was up, and scored in the top 25%, but the most significant gains were noticed during the 5k beach run, where I threw down a 7:54/mile pace. My legs were fine, and didn't even feel like I was pushing that hard! Only 6 people passed me the entire run, and I had some juice left for a sprint to the finish line. I now have a 70.3 coming up in 2 1/2 weeks, and that's what I'm starting to freak about. It'll be my first HIM, and I'm looking forward to seeing how I perform as a gauge for how IMFL will go. Training from here on will be long, hard miles! And for some reason, I'm looking forward to it! Keep up the great work everyone, and take care of yourselves! |

Ok, maybe the Monday after the HIM then... And I'll get a weekend pass for Florida and see you all then! Hopefully I'll still be able to train while I'm there, or it's gonna be one helluva taper before the race. Although, I'll have plenty of glycogen stored up! "Another bowl of pasta please!" |

I feel so far behind most of you and where I'd like to be running wise, but knee injury/scope put a big hole in my training. I'm lucky I'm healthy and can train. Not ideal build to an IM but it is what it is. I feel behind too, and it's my first, so I'm trying not to freak out. Please tell me my marathon suffering experience will get me through the end of the IM! I feel you ras26. I've been suffering from the motivational blues but somehow managed to get myself on my bike yesterday and crank out a 65 mile ride and follow it with a 7 mile run. thankfully I arranged to have my boyfriend waiting for me after the ride so I would have someone to run with. I actually felt pretty good though, probably best I felt all year for the 50+ rides. I need to get down to the shore too, I ride Baltimore Co. and while the hills are a good workout, I need something more race appropriate. Let me know of any good flat areas you know of this side of the bridge. Keep up the good work, the newbie boat had a quite a few passengers this year it seems like. |
