Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() IceManScott - 2011-01-31 2:30 PM Like Lance says "Dance on the Pedals" I know when I climb with quicker strokes it's so much easier than sitting back and slogging it.ingleshteechur - 2011-01-31 12:58 PM Ok, I'm going to try really hard not to come off sounding like a paranoid woman, but I'm a little concerned about my thighs! I am petite, but I am a petite pear carrying most of my weight in my booty and quads. After a solid month of trainer riding my pants, while getting looser in the waist, seem to be a getting a bit tighter in the thighs. This is freaking me out a bit. I know my legs are becoming stronger and tighter, but getting bigger? Not so happy about that. Will they eventually lean out with continued riding or am I going to end up with Popeye sized thighs? Somebody calm me down! The most beautiful legs I've ever seen have been on the legs of female triathletes. I can't remember what distance you are training for but if you primarily concerned about weight loss remember...its all about keeping the aerobic burn high and the strength burn low. Meaning in strength training, low weight, hi repetitions. In spinning, higher reps and less really pushing through the gears at hard slow sleeps. You'll need to do that to climb better, certainly. But to lose weight, spin faster at lighter work loads. It's all good. At least that's what I was told and I have lovely legs. All shaved and everything ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() robingray_260 - 2011-01-31 9:11 PM At the end of each month I like to go back over my logs and see where I am at for the month. I am happy to say that this month was the highest run volume since I started training (53.76 miles) and my second highest bike volume (113 miles) and all of that was on a trainer! My swim really suffered, but since it is my strongest sport I have been replacing the pool for my skis. How did everyone else do - any milestones, improvements, things you need to work on???? My run (157.1 miles) and swim (20,500) were very strong for January. My bike was non-existent. This week begins my taper for the 2/20 marathon. Now, my goal is to keep injuries and sickness away from me! Oh, Iceman, looking good! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Seriously, sorry it was posted so large. But thanks for the kind comments. I'm down another 15 pounds or so from then...June 2010. At 200 with 32-33 inch waist and rated lean according to body composition testing at the local university which is a BIG deal for someone once 400 pounds and a 50 inch waist. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() GmrGirl - 2011-02-01 6:51 AM Happy February McFuzzies!!! A whole new month to train, learn, and get strong. Of course here in the Midwest it's starting off with a bang of a blizzard. (If the Groundhog get's snowed in and can't see his shadow, does that mean spring is just around the corner???) Schools are already closed here and stores out of milk. Hope everyone has a great day, gets home safe, and is able to get the training done they need today! Great attitude! |

![]() | ![]() Does anyone have a link or know of a website that has an explanation and possible illustration/video of various swim drills. I am desperately trying to improve my swim technique. However, I have not had any formal swim training. So, when I look at programs that say to perform drills I am pretty limited on what to do (I know the catch-up and fist drill, but that is it.) Thanks in advance. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Snow day tomorrow! It's crazy outside. Snowing sideways. Looks like a date with the trainer tomorrow. Not going to venture out tomorrow except to eventually help the hubby clear the driveway. I'm supposed to swim tomorrow, but just got an e-mail from the club saying that due to anticipated low usage tomorrow, they are going to take advantage of that to drain and clean the pool. Uh oh...lights just flickered. We'd better not lose power. Edited by suzimmer 2011-02-01 8:22 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congratulations everyone for getting through the a long, dark, month. I've looked at S/B/R volume for everyone and it's over 425 hours. It's a lot more if I add strength, elliptical, hiking, and other workouts, but I've got to draw the line somewhere. I logged about 30 hours of training compared to my 25-hour goal. I still have 25 proteges logging onto BT. I've been able to get over to various logs frequently (I'm pretty sure I got to everyone twice a week, but a few logs were locked down part of the time.) I haven't been as good as I'd like leaving inspires, so I'm thinking about how I need to revise this goal to better align with my expectations. I'm going to brag a bit on GmrGirl. 8:23 and more than 40 miles running. Most of this came 15-25 minutes and 1-2.25 miles at a time, but she was out there 3 or 4 days a week. She was a bit reluctant to join a mentor group at first, and expressed a bit of anxiety at the experience of other members of the group. This is what starting out is all about! Getting out there, consistently, and making the lifestyle changes that can be sustained for years. She's not the only one with these kinds of successed! We've got a few other athletes training for their first races. We've also got some more experienced athletes suffering setbacks. Injury, Illness, changes in family priorities. This is life, and how we deal with it displays who we are. It's amazing how much our goals can change in one short month! We've got another month. What do you hope to accomplish this month? How do your February goals support other goals for 2011? |

How do your February goals support other goals for 2011? Feeling WAY better, had a great run this morning.. Dolphins swimming in the bay! and a very pretty sunrise over the water! I'm coughing less and less and feeling better. This virus got others worse than it got me. But I'm KICKING IT! I've also gotten in one nice swim and can't wait to do it again! GOALS for Feb: Finish February 20th Half marathon in under 3 hours. Take 15 minutes off that on the March 6th half. Row or Spin every weeknight. Lose 10 - 15lbs Get my neighborhood 5k training runs to 30 minutes. Get fitness to Tri2one team training level for March 1st. Those guys have been really supportive, but I'm taking February off from their workouts to work on my own fitness and my distance running. Can't wait to rejoin them in March. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Goals for February: keep up the enthusiasm and motivation for this crazy training schedule! Now that the honeymoon period is over I have come to realize that this is going to be a loooooong road until my HIM June 11. Workouts are getting progressively tougher and longer and I'm pushing myself past what I've ever done before (including marathon training). I'd like to see my average miles per hour increase on the trainer for long rides. But I imagine that will come with time. I was very happy with my January training and hope to have just as good of a February...but like I said, reality is setting in! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey there. Sorry I haven't been around much. I think I'm really glad January is finally over - it wasn't the best way to start off a year for us. Looking forward to a much better February! My training actually went pretty well during January though. Swimming was bad and biking was OK, not great although I expected both of those to be low due to the half marathon training. Running was really good for me - over 70 miles total for the month. I think that might be my highest month in the 4 years I've been running. As for February goals - running will still be my priority for the next 4 weeks, but I'd like to start adding more biking in. I only did about 3-1/2 hours total last month so I need to start bringing that number up. I'm also thinking about signing up for an adult swim class. I want to talk to the instructor first though and see if it would be good for me (I don't need to start at the beginning) or if I would be better off with private lessons. Another day off work here - we didn't get quite the blizzard that was predicted although we did get about 3" of sleet yesterday and several inches of snow last night. Just to the north and west of us got hit a lot harder. They even shut down I-70 yesterday all the way to Kansas City - about 200 miles of highway. Last I heard they were hoping to get it re-opened by noon today. Quite the winter we've had this year. Looking forward to spring! |

Wow! I love snow but that is a bit much. lol. Looks pretty bad on the news too!
Can someone motivate enough to go for a bike ride. I think it's because I have to go by myself. I Know, it's stupid but I so much enjoy riding with other people. It's a lovely, lovely day here too..just a little cold. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() February Goals - learn how to breath and swim at the same time. Get my short runs up to 30 minutes at a time regardless of distance and my long weekend runs up to 5 miles. None of those seem too unrealistic and are keeping in with my "baby steps" approach. |
