Morning TAN!

More job hunting on tap for today!  One of my friends who used to work in law firms (now an analyst for the FBI) has reached out to a friend of hers who is the managing partner of an intellectual property firm so I sent my resume to him last night.  He actually got back to me around 10pm last night and said we should all try to arrange a happy hour to get together with some of his work colleagues to meet without the pressure of an interview.  I like the idea, but this doesn't seem like the normal way of meeting a managing partner?

That does sound a little odd.  I would take Tony if I were you.

Tony will be there, as will my friend.   The partner (and my friend) told me that they do things a tad differently at his firm to make it a place where people like to go to work and so they reduce turnover of their staff, so maybe this is supposed to be indicative of that aspect of the firm?

I pretty much got the job I have now over a few gin and tonics with an OLD boss, who called in a favor for me after that happy hour. I think it's awesome to start off like this! Even if it isn't a good fit, you never know where a connection will lead you

I agree. Maybe a different approach, but even if this doesn't work out, it will give you the ability to meet a few people in the industry and maybe additional possibilities. In most cases, is not what you know, but who you know.

I've found this to be very true.  It was through knowing people that I got hired at the Vancouver law firms that I worked for.  If it happens that was in Chicago too, I'm fine with that!

Soooo does anyone know a friend where they are who knows a friend in Duluth that is looking to hire a great employee this spring/early summer?

Its still an interview.  It does seem odd to contact you at 10pm to talk about getting together for drinks.  on the plus side, they think you  have all the technical qualifications and trust your friend's judgement so now they want to see how you "fit" with thier firm. On the negative, its still an interview, so make sure Tony plays nice.

Don't worry, I know it's still an interview - and as a managing partner, I'm not at all surprised that he's checking his work email at 10pm.  What did surprise and actually impress me is that he took the time to respond to me at that time as opposed to letting it sit until tomorrow.  I actually already got another email from him saying that even though he's loathe to pass up on a potential employee, he knows of another firm that's hiring immediately and would I be interested.  I think he's legit.

Tony usually nice and charming.  Except for when he hasn't had his daily coffee.  He can be somewhat ornery if he doesn't get his coffee.

Now that you found it you and Tony should plan a visit up this way.  Its awsome up here no matter what time of year.

Tony usually nice and charming.  Except for when he hasn't had his daily coffee.  He can be somewhat ornery if he doesn't get his coffee.

Or when he has Tequila

The sour cream thing isn't so bad, he'll either get angry at the drone behind the counter that didn't remember, or he'll make that scrunched up face indicating disapproval.  Tequila makes him pukey which is infinitely worse.

Sunday in Ft. Worth we stopped at Chipotle on the way out of town. There were LITERALLY 40 people in line ahead of us. It was stupid but we were hungry and already there so we waited.

When you get a hankering, you get a hankering.

Same thing with me and these Fish Tacos around the corner.  I seriously think he puts some addictive chemical in the cole slaw that he puts on the tacos.

Serious wait to get some tacos at that place.  Gotta go get lunch now...

Tony usually nice and charming.  Except for when he hasn't had his daily coffee.  He can be somewhat ornery if he doesn't get his coffee.

Or when he has Tequila

or if they put sour cream on his burrito at chipotle.

The sour cream thing isn't so bad, he'll either get angry at the drone behind the counter that didn't remember, or he'll make that scrunched up face indicating disapproval.  Tequila makes him pukey which is infinitely worse.

i hope we get to meet up when i am in chicago for the marathon.  i will buy EVERYONE tequila!

Ha!  I hope we can meet up too, but NO tequila for Tony.  If not for Tony's sake, then for mine - it's no fun to deal with pukey people!

(I'll have his shot - tequila is yummy!

No wonder he gets sick, Tequila in coffee is not that good.

No it is better to have coffe with Bailey's or Kaluha.

mmm Bailey's.

Tequila and Squirt and Lime.  Paloma!  Try it.  You'll thank me when you wake up tomorrow afternoon...

How is it possible to kill TAN with tequila talk??

Maybe they all ran out to get some...

And a sombrero to wear while drinking it...
