Sometimes life just gets in the way of training. Nothing you can do about that except try to get the most out of the days you do get to train. I know the feeling.

I just had my first hot weather long run.  It was a lot more difficult than I thought.  I was so glad the last 5 miles were on a shaded trail...totally saved me.  Just got me thinking if there is any shade on the run for IMKY?  Maybe I'll just put an umbrella in my SN bag! ha ha

moabrunner - 2009-07-15 9:46 PM Another banner day over here. No workouts today. Too much family stuff going on. Very upsetting.

My whole week has been like this.  I feel for you.  I am coming off a pretty satisfying weekend in which I raced my first 1/2 IM and had a great time but this week it seems like one thing or another keeps popping up and suddenly here I am on Thurs. evening having only 1 workout in for the week.

Ah well, suppose I have to suck it up and keep marching on.  Luckily, I AM fairly confident in my fitness level at this point so it isn't too much of a disaster but it's never a good feeling to miss workouts.

As far as shade on the run, the way I'm going it will be dark for the last part of the run, so I guess that counts as shade.
Good luck with the training, Jim

I did something I swore I would not do. I have attempted to figure out my finishing time instead of going with I wanna just finish. I took my last 3 HIM finishes and looked at where I stood in the overall ranking. I took that percentage and figured out with each of the 3 percentages where I would fall in the results from last years Louisville race. I have 3 "projected" times. 13:39, 13:24, and 13:14. I realize that this is not fool proof due to many things that can happen. Heat being a big one, but I think this gives me a rough idea of where I will be. Although anything can happen and I might be jinxing myself by even doing this.

I always set a goal time ("just finish" never works for me). So, if you take the average of the three projected times you are looking at a 13:25.

I've allowed myself to think along similar lines a few times in order to come up with ballpark finishing times.  But I'm not bold enough to post them in case the IM gods read BT.

I claim there is a decent amount of shade on the course, but it is very sporadic.  Check out Google Maps Street View ... below are a couple of links from the main drag of the run down 3rd Street and Southern Parkway.  The vast majority is a four lane road with tall trees on either side, but depends on the time of day what the shadows are doing.

Nice job! My training is going well. I felt great after the Rhode Island 70.3 so I decided to take only one day off and get right back into it with a long swim early in the week and a 120 mile ride yesterday. I also just registered for Steelhead....that may prove to be a mistake but time will tell.

I'm doing Steelhead as well!  Long story but the end result is that I'll be there taking it easy, having fun, and enjoying a long training day!

I am saying "training day" now but I know my race instincts will kick in and I will push it...but if I feel as good as I did after RI I guess I don't need to worry. Hopefully I will see you in Benton Harbor.

Holy Cow, I am EXHAUSTED. All. the. time.

I thought something was wrong with me... until I looked back at last year's training log and read about how exhausted I was this same time last year.

I love training for an Ironman, but I think one of the things I look forward to the most is "sleeping in" the weekend after the race!

Last night I couldn't fall asleep because I was thinking about how INSANE this distance is!

I can't catch a break.  I finally have a nice block to go get a 100 miler in and 150 seconds into the ride my Pro Race 3 explodes.

dude that sucks.
I had a tough ride yesterday. head wind every turn I took. Low energy tough mental day. No mechanicals though.
I hit the pool today and had a great swim. I guess when I have a bad training day all I have to do is hit the pool. I know I am one of the few, but Swimming is my thing. I hope everyone is training well.

Did Cardinal Harbour Half on Saturday was a good training day.  Really wish there was some porta potties somewhere on the bike or run course!
River was nice and the course used some of the IM course.

Not sure, it was still kinda dark and I was on smooth asphalt.  Anyway back to suffling workouts.  This was a big recovery week and next week should be huge(knocking on wood).
