Expert 616 searching for the elusive runner's high! | Subject: RE: June Bugs kcarroll - 2009-06-17 6:13 PM On the way to the PT office I saw the guide dogs out and about for their training workout. A couple of the younger ones were being pretty naughty puppies. There is a school for the blind and a guide dog training center in the town where I live. Now that would be a very cool job..... training seeing eye/guide dogs. My kids love it when we see them in the grocery store with their trainers. Pretty cool job and to know that you are helping improve someone's way of life would be so heartwarming. |

Mine is hyperactive and can't see it happening soon. Everytime I try she goes crazy, overexcited and runs way ahead.... frightening the ppl around us. I never really 'taught' her how to run with me. We've just always been really bonded and she behaves so well for me, so I decided to take her one day because it looked like she wanted to come. Now she LOVES it and starts going crazy when I'm getting my running stuff on. For the first mile or two she wants to go fast (she doesn't really pull, but the leash is taught) after that she settles right into my pace and I probably wouldn't even need the leash anymore. And one time I took her to the track when I was doing an interval workout, figuring she would just hang out. Well she ran every single lap right next to me without a leash on, even the work intervals which were FAST. I couldn't believe it, she was sooo into it! Cool! Abby isn't into the track workouts, She is great for about 5 miles then she is done. |

(I did drink water...just didn't stop) Race report will be posted soon...but did I mention I did it!?!? My time was right around 37:00 - - I can't believe that! I was kinda really thrilled!! That was only the 2nd 5K I've ever done - - and probably only the 2nd time I've gone that distance...ever!! WOO HOO!! :patting self on the back: That is awesome! |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: June Bugs kcarroll - 2009-06-14 8:20 AM Weekend plans turned upside down. Made my nephew's 8th grade graduation (very cute and he won lots of honors) but my mom took a huge fall. Broke the right proximal humerus in 3 places. ED doc didn't think she'd need surgery (toes and fingers crossed) but one of the fractures didn't appear to be cleanly aligned. So will get her into the orthopod and see where it goes. Nasty break that is tough to immobilize. Anyhow, getting things sorted out in VT. Not sure when I'm heading home now. If one must find bright spots, she's pretty conked out on pain meds and I can't leave her so lots of BT time this morning. Sick. Congrats to your nephew, soooo sorry about mom. Hope her recovery goes good. |

How do you feel? Ready for an ice bath? (my fave on runs over 10m) Never could do an ice bath...I can't even sit in a cold bath! I've done one ice bath after taking a nasty fall in a 5k race. I was bruised on my whole left side and the ice bath helped. After my last tri I stood in the cool lake for a while. |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: June Bugs surfnturf - 2009-06-15 9:24 AM lkc01234 - 2009-06-15 7:41 AM Why is it Bugs? That I got up at 6 am (a bit before my alarm) on Saturday/Race Day and 5:30 am yesterday morning to go watch a Tri...but come Monday morning I snooze for about 30 minutes and don't rise until 6 am?!? I get excited each and every day I wake up to go to work. I am the director of a small business that does "brain training"...no joke. We help people improve their cognitive skills through intense exercises that improve memory, processing speed, auditory skills, logic and more. We work with a lot of kids that struggle in school but we also help athletes, gifted students, adults, seniors and the most fulfilling (to me) are those recovering from illness or brain injury (like soldiers). We have a 21 year old male right now that had a brain tumor removed last year and he is doing FABULOUS. He has improved so much and he walks in with a HUGE smile every time b/c he feels so much better....very satisfying to help improve someone's life like that and it happens DAILY. I was a VP in technology for many years but found this opportunity and have NEVER looked back. The only problem is the economy and we are feeling it BIG time right now. It is fun and very similar to physical training b/c we train our bodies to be their very best and in my work, we train the brain to be it's very best! Okay, I'll stop now. But I do LOVE it!!Does anyone actually get excited to go to work in the morning?? If so, what do you do?? This sounds soooo cool! I think I gave all my brain cells and memory to my 4 children! I can't seem to remember anything! |

Elite 3447 West Allis, WI | Subject: RE: June Bugs MDHillSlug - 2009-06-16 8:52 AM So, I ran this morning! I cut back on the length and intensity to see what my heel would do. It was somewhat uncomfortable while running and hurts some now but I can walk without trouble which is a huge improvement from last week. Still, I'm going to cut back on frequency and distance for a few weeks. I'm going to talk to Dee about staying in the challenge but redoing my goals for the rest of the month. Good for listening to your body...or heel! hope you can just reduce your goal...if not still post and be part of the team! |
