Good luck Spokes!  If you are making the right decision for your happiness, I can't be anything but supportive!  Sounds like you have put a lot of thought into it.

However, I bet you won't be long gone!  You just can't stay away...

Subject: RE: TAN #82 ... TANning is a lifestyle you know.

Spokes - 2009-08-11 2:06 PM As I've noted here in my blog in the past and yesterday, I am terribly frustrated with a lot of things in my life, and it is time to shed my life of things that make me feel bad about myself and erode my self-esteem.

I've come to the conclusion that I do not belong on BT after:

  • Having bad experiences with triathlons and duathlons.
  • Experiencing a triathlon club where it was all about obsessions with speed and outdoing the other members with how many races you can do and kick other people's .
  • I am a guitarist, writer and most definitely a completely un-gifted athlete.

Therefore, I see no point in discussing an activity I'm not good at and, as a result, burnt out on on.  I'm not going to waste any more money on racing which almost always ends with me feeling bad about myself. I see no point in training fanatically when I don't really improve enough to make it worth it.

Now, I've met great people on here and its a supportive community and site - don't get me wrong about that. But the primary purpose IS triathlon and its really silly for me to hang out here - although I really enjoy COJ and its quite unique as a forum of broad ranging discussion.

But, if I'm going to write about my life on the Internet, its time for me to focus on the three things I do well (to varying degrees):

  • Writing
  • Playing Guitar
  • Recreational Cycling for fitness

Anyway, for the time being, I am going to try an experiment and moving the blogging portion of each day - other than a short note - to blogspot and see how it goes.

My blogspot URL is:

http://sacfusionguitarist.blogspot.com/

I'm also on Facebook.

You can also email me at [email protected].

I will still read your blogs and inspire as appropriate, as well as use this site and bikejournal.com (i'm tanstaafl there - There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) to log my workouts. I'll still be a part of COJ where I find it interesting to participate, but I'm done with triathlon and I'm done competing in something that I cannot compete in.

I'll repeat this above entry once per week for the next couple of months for those of you that are regular readers that enjoy my writing so you can find me on blogspot. I have set up my blog there - I think - so that you can leave comments even if you are an unregistered member. Email me or PM me here if you are having difficulties or have comments.

I have a love/hate relationship with BT, but its really stupid to keep banging my head against a brick wall in a world in which I don't belong.  I want to emphasize again that I TRULY APPRECIATE all of you that have read this blog regularly and who have been so kind to me. This is not about you, but its about the direction BT has taken in my mind and feelings.

With my father's recent death, my mother undergoing treatment for Stage IV cancer, and my children moving into a bad situation in Connecticut, and a job I am very unhappy with, I have enough on my plate and time is truly a precious commodity in life.

Responded elsewhere.

Thanks Jen.

Oh the bike trail the past few days, the live wild turkeys are EVERYWHERE. There must have been a hatching because many of the ones I've seen are immature. Its also hot and they're down by the water too.

I've seen deer - in fact, I saw a buck and doe a couple of weeks ago - all the time, I've seen a coyote several times, rattlers sliding across the path, and many - MANY weird humans, including Picasso and Notre Dame.

Picasso is an extremely tall and thin young guy that powerwalks in a paint-splattered coverall and straw hat that has a giant Christian cross on the front and who carries a football and tosses it from hand to hand, and has a HUGE grin on his face and singing. Notre Dame is this incredibly tan guy, shirtless, with long hair, that rides a hybrid, has headphones stuck in his ears, a small set of wind chimes on his bike, and who stops every couple of miles and dances, Rocky-like, to either the music on his iPod or the voices in his head.

Oh, and toppage.

Um...that sounds really interesting.

I've seen turkeys and deer while I am riding, but not weird humans like that.

Spokes - 2009-08-11 9:33 PM I didn't see any weird humans tonight but I did see a guy in a low rider just absolutely hauling butt. I was doing 18 and he dropped me like a bad date. But at least I'm more the dropper rather than the droppee these days.

As long as it's not acid.

Dear, meh:

Due to the economy, I have to last as long as possible to cut costs and save space on the BT server.  Additionally, I like to consider myself a BOP compared to all the other TANs (now that TAN #69 was quite the FOPper, wasn't it?).

I'm in no hurry and want to enjoy the time here.

  You're devoted TAN,

  TAN #82
