Canceled because of uncertainty with construction in the area at the pool etc.

No I still have my first of the season and first in 6 years( will only be my 2nd ever) April 20th and I can't wait. As long as I make it through the swim I am fine!!!

Hey you all, I am back from a SUPER LONG weekend on the road! I left home Sat at 7:15pm – got to St. Cloud at 3am and checked into a room! Met a friend at 7:30am and headed to her gym for a workout. Got my swim in and some weights (it was supposed to be a 4 hour bike day – impossible!) After our workout we grabbed a quick lunch and headed to the bike store. Spent all afternoon there. They were a TOP NOTCH place! They put me on a trainer and made all the adjustments to the bike to make it right for me. By the time they were done adjusting, to see if I liked the bike, it was fully fit to me. Then we moved onto the next bike . . . They video’d me on the different bikes and pointed things out. Three of them stayed nearly an hour after close time helping me get finished up. Very professional people working there with tons of experience! I don’t think I could have gotten anything close to this type of help locally.

The best part . . . I have a bike now I ended up getting it as part of a package – all together in the package I got the 2007 QR Kilo tri bike, a QR Ultrajohn wetsuit, Speedplay X-5 pedals, a Bell Furio helmet, a Trek Incite 8i computer, and two Bontrager composite bottle cages. (Well only 1, cuz the bike only takes 1) The wetsuit is a different style than the one listed above as part of the package – the one I got has sleeves – YAY! Even though they said no substitutions, they found one that was last year’s model with sleeves for me to try and it worked. OMG I didn’t take it off right and got stuck for like 10 minutes in it My friend was laughing her butt off at me LOL! Ohhhh boy do I need to work on that transition . . . I can just see me, after EVERYONE else has left the transition area, struggling with a stupid wetsuit!

I’m feeling very good with my purchase. My only mistake . . . I didn’t buy a trainer!! May need to reconsider as I only have a month the prepare for my first tri and it is yucky out again . . .

So last night I got back on the road at around 6pm, home around 1am . . . So, after 900 miles and a LONG weekend with no sleep I have a bike AND a wetsuit! Oh ya, bought shoes too, wanted to be able to ride the thing LOL! Now I just need clothes.

Ok, so here’s a pic and the specs on the bike:

I don't know how to post the pic??? Oh well, the specs seem to be working . . .

What a wonderful story of getting a new bike! That's how it should be! And a Q-Roo AND all sorts of other new tri gear ... that's as close to heaven on earth as it gets ... until you finish the tri

Congratulations Renee!

I'm getting my first bike, too! DH bought a Cannondale CAAD 9 OPTIMO Frameset last night. I'm excited and I think it's so sweet he's going to build a bike for me.

I went clipless today! I ended up making an appointment for this morning at a different bike shop because I really wanted this weekend to get used to clipless. I've only done a short ride with the clipless and so far so good! I rode on pretty busy city streets and had to clip in and out a lot, and I didn't have any problems (clipping in is just a little bit harder, which is good -- I don't ever want to get stuck clipped in!).

The fitting itself was fine -- the guy said I was already pretty well set up on my bike, and he gave me some tips for making small adjustments on my own, which I liked. I've been having some problems with my hands going numb, which was the main reason I scheduled the bike fitting. That was why the guy said I should try to make my own adjustments. He said numb hands mean I'm hitting some sort of pressure point, and I'll just have to experiment and find a position that works. Of course, he also suggested aerobars eventually. I think I'll work on clipless first. *g*

Laura on AFTER THE PLAN

ldatug - 2008-03-18 9:34 PM

Two things:

1.  I posted my race report for your viewing pleasure.

2.  I have a question:  Now that I've finished the 16 week program, what do I do now??  I am going to compete in sprints throughout the season and have a 10K planned for 7/4.  I don't know where to go from here.

Hi Laura!

Based on your query here and the details you gave in the Tri Talk post, I have a few thoughts.

Look into the 16- or 20-week bike focused plans here on BT, particularly the ones that require 4-6 hours of training a week.

The other thing, too, is that you can select one of the other plans that will carry you through most of the season, and pump up the bike volume--I learned through my first challenge on BT that even doing 15 min, but every day, makes a HUGE difference.

You can fit in races where the plan has a recovery week, or shift the plan around so that you get a lighter week just before the races.

Another option is this plan from trinewbies.com--a little more involved, but perhaps more to your liking. This one you would probably need to scale back from or miss a workout once in a while; it's pretty dense. However, the trinewbies plans, I've found, have a much stronger bike component, which I think reflects and prepares you well for the bike-heaviness of triathlons.

Good luck! Ask whatever you need. We're with you all the way.

Beth-welcome back!

Terri-awesome news on the bike!

Erin-clipless at last!

So much good news around here.  I love it.  I finally got on the bike yesterday after a long time of near misses due to commitments and weather.  I only did 12 miles but close to half was in wind and rain, so that made it interesting. I am happy to report that my swimming and running are progressing very well, better than I could have imagined.  Just yesterday in my blog I wrote that I had a "short swim to do of only 1800 meters".  That is insane, compared to last year where the most I ever swam was about 1000 meters!  Just gotta get more t.i.t.s. which will happen this weekend.  I have my longest swim ever, timewise, scheduled tomorrow (every Friday this happens in my current plan) and also my longest training run next Tuesday.  I always feel I could keep running past the allotted time, though, which I guess means I am doing something right.  Gotta work on the speed and hit my 7-minute-mile goal before summer ends!  That concludes my update for now!  It's currently hailing outside.  Oh, the pacific northwest in the spring.  Such fun.

I must say, I laughed and laughed at your Disney report. I'm still trying to catch up to this thread. And everything else in my life. Hah!

You are so awesome. Chasing down PRs at every turn. Yes--practice is a PR--what a miracle to be alive, to be human, to be able to frequently do things we have never done before.

Congratulations, Shawn! Look at you, haven't done a tri yet and you're getting PR's anyway!

Well, guys, I've already joined the clipless club -- I couldn't get clipped out in time tonight and I fell over. I felt like such a dork! But also just a little bit proud for joining the club, I'll admit. It was such a supremely idiotic fall: I was literally in my driveway at the end of a 20-mile ride.

LOL Erin!!  Welcome to the club   You did better than I did . . . I joined it on my very first ride with my bike haha - Monday I think.  Got to the end of a trail, slowed, unclipped one foot . . . stood there a minute on one leg to look at my phone . . . went to take a step with the other foot to get turned around and just toppled over in slow motion . . . just had to laugh!  If that's the worst thing we do - we will be doing well!!!

How exciting Terri!!

Leslie - How cool for that swim to turn into an "only" 1800 so quickly!!  Awesome job on the improvements!

Laura - Just FINALLY got done reading your race report . . . AWESOME job!!!  Your running has come sooo far!  Super proud of you!!

Yanti - Ohhh I can SO relate to trying to get caught up here AND in the rest of life . . . yikes!

Shawn - I hear ya on being excited to finally do a tri . . . though I'm SUPER nervous too!  Our races will be here before we know it!  Mine is just a week before yours . . .  I'm actually wishing it was a little further away at this point, LOL!

Beth - Hope things settle down a bit for you!!  I can imagine your schedule is absolutely crazy!  Hang in there and keep breathing!!

Training is going pretty well here, though I get SUPER frustrated with my swimming . . .  and the new bike is really throwing me off . . . hopefully I can get used to it in the next few weeks!!  Anyone else here using aero bars?  Is it normal to have problems holding a straight line at first?  I imagine that could be problematic during a race - YIKES!!!

Well, it's almost midnight and I'm trying REALLY hard to get to bed by then tonight . . . overslept for work today and can't be doing that!!

TTYL!

Renee

Just logged my latest ride and again a new time and distance PR for me we were out for 2:43:30 and did almost 66K it was good I didn't not plan to go that long but I guess you get caught up in it when you are riding with people training for IronMan Canada.

It was a blast and because of this bike challenge this month I have done way more biking then ever before. 9:08.57 and 232.96

Nope, I don't think so - just a busy weekend - speaking for myself, I spent the majority of the weeekend

en route to or from the airport

at the airport

in the air

very little time at home this weekend, but I am thankful for what I did have

Wow, Shawn, what an amazing training weekend for you!  Ice that calf, be good to it!!!  Yes on the massage, for sure!  Were you sore from the long bike?  I rode 2 hours yesterday and can feel it today in my hamstrings.  Just took a 4 mile run to work out the kinks and am feeling ok.  Glad tomorrow is a rest day....I swam and rode more in the past three days than I have in a very very very long time!  And Tuesday I think my run will be over an hour, as I am hitting high hours in my workout plan now.

A BTer who sadly broke his foot transferred his duathlon registration to me, so I will be doing that on April 27.  I plan to pay forward his good karma when the opportunity arises.  More on that later.

Hope everyone is having a good Easter and hasn't eaten too much candy (I have been sorta good....considering the amount that is in the house.).  Here are my boys sampling some pre-breakfast PEEPS.

Your boys are SO CUTE! They look very thoughtful about their Peeps (I can relate -- Easter was always my favorite holiday when I was a kid).

I took a very well-deserved rest day today and had some friends over for an Easterish party. It was super warm so I wore a skirt, and my friends were laughing at my ridiculously banged up knees. I love riding clipless, but my knees are practically solid bruises now from all the stupid falls.
