Jo and others:

There's a discussion on SlowTwitch that I've been following about menopause and athletes. Menopause discussion On the second page, there is a link to a Fact Sheet put out by Sports Medicine Australia regarding menopause and sport.

It's just nice to know that we're not alone.

ETA: How ironic. As I'm reading the fact sheet, I get a hot flash. Joy.

Funny I was buying a coffee this morning, so while i'm waiting I call my husband - hi how are you he says and I burst into heaving sobbing tears!  But I'm fine!  WTF!!!!  I don't have much of any other symptoms except this feeling of despair, disappointment with myself and my life, and the anxiety, like the start of a race - butterflies can't eat (this is an upside!).  This link was great.  Nice to know I'm not the only one with anxiety and depression!

melbo55 - 2012-08-16 6:42 PM OK, manatees, weird question because I am in a weird situation that I never thought I would be in.  I am, largely due to my multitude of vacation and travel days without a bike in the month of August, am a mere 1.47 miles difference between my biking distance and running distance for the month.  I have a sprint tri on Sunday.  I ran 2.5 miles today.  There is this sick, twisted part of me that wants to, even if it is only for about 2 days, have more running time than biking time.  Dare I run again tomorrow?  Or should I be good and not push it?  I do want to have a respectable performance at my tri because my sister may actually be there, or will at very least be wondering about my results since I am staying at her house the night before.

I think if you want to do well at the race, you are better off taking it easy.  Doesn't necessarily mean don't run, but don't overdo it either.  A run tomorrow is not going to do anything to make your race better, but push it and it could make your run worse...  either way, have fun!

jumping out of my skin today like a drank litres of coffee - I didn't.  I'm not working out today I think....I cold do a bike drainer when I get home from work, just a 45mins.  See how I feel.  Going to make carrot and coriander soup as with my new home delivery of organic fruit and veg I find myself with a surplus of carrots!  Oh and onions, not decided what to do with the onions yet.  Any ideas?

Jo- French Onion soupAllen- good to see ya good luck on the race and the home front.Mel- Go run 1-2 miles won't hurt ya I don't think.Been up for 20 hours so a bit punchy right now, but I did finish "Be Iron Fit"So I also need to curb my eating a bit- went to weigh Slammer to see if he had lost anything and found out I had gained quite a bit the last few weeks, back to logging my food/drink again. I think I can get back to mid 170's by mid September.

so it's looking like potato, sweet potato and carrot mash.  Carrot and coriander soup, French onion soup and onion bahjis!  Bring it on - just off to the supermarket now, also out of wine so get some of that too.  Friday night cooking.

Missed loads of stuff. not sure if i will catch up, but what the hey.

Two and a half days to my first oly. eeeeeeeek.

Luckily got my son doing it with me. Talk about the blind leading the blind.

I've done a sprint and occasionally trained, he's never done a tri but is very gym fit and is only 20 yrs old. (and looks like Bradley Wiggins)

Stop it Yanti, settle back on your bicycle seat.

And put some knickers on.

Can't wait to put up my first Oly RR.

BTW, i have pre registered for the Outlaw IM distance Tri, July 2013. Not that i think i am overdoing it or anything.

It's only a pre register. not the actual thing, so i can still chicken out.

Can a frog be a chicken?  Is that a fricken?

I'm not fricken anything.         i think???

Maybe you're a chog as opposed to a fricken.

Sorry your mrs has some issues - I sympathise, my DH is going through bad times with me.  It's pre-menopause cr*p but I am a basket case, crying sobbing, very down and depressed a lot!  It's normal!  I'm getting mine sorted with a great GP but it's trial and error with dosage, I'm nearly there I think, this last lot I've been a little less volatile!

IM Distance!  go for it.  it's 31 weeks til my first (and only ) IM and full Fink training starts at 30 weeks.  One more week of bumbling through 8 or 9 hours a week then crank it up and start with some real training structure.  I'm quite excited. - which by the way is another menopausal issue, lack of motivation!  Jeez it's never ending!

Good luck with the Olympic - you'll love it once it's done!  Can't wait to read your RR and don't forget to record a PB!

Chog. Possibly.

Fricken chog. Probably.

Thanks for the sympathy. Give your DH my best wishes. I know what he's going through.

ukweeble - 2012-08-16 6:59 PM A woman, curious??? Surely not.

ALLEN!!!  Good to see you make an appearance, we, or at least I, missed you!  Sorry to hear your life has been challenging lately.  Just have fun with your first Olympic this weekend.  I have faith that you will make it through, and your son, too.  Hope life smooths out for you soon.

Thanks Mel. Nice to be missed. I think you should run, but just a nice slow one. About 1.48 miles should do it.

Really looking forward to the race. 1st OWS etc. Talking of which, i have a question.

My son and i only have one wetsuit between us. Should i run out and buy one in a blind panic or do you think i could do the swim in just the budgie smugglers, using my inbuilt seal-pup fat as protection against the cold. (guessing the swim will take around 40 mins).

See if you can hire one - sometimes they have a stand there at the tri, or find a shop that will hire for the day....or freeze your nads off.

A day off work today to go to the school concert, my presence is required at the lunchtime and evening performances!  Yikes!  Not enough wine in the world my friends!

So did I get to sleep in - er no, was up at 5.45am to do 45mins on the drainer - loved it, every second song cranked up a gear.  Sweating by the end and proud of myself! - that's a rarity!

I then drove to a friend for coffee, she makes the best in Melbourne!  Then home and decided to rearrange Artemis' bedroom furniture, it was cramped and messy, now it's beautiful she'll be so happy!

Mmmm a day off technically is always harder work that work itself.  Darn it.

I cannot believe I'm doing a HM on Sunday - what was I thinking!

Days off can be exhausting! You will do a great job at your half this weekend. As someone told me a couple weeks ago, the hay is in the barn.

Thanks!  I just have to remember it's part of my training not a race - the city2surf I went a bit too hard, I definitely raced it.  Forecast for Sunday - rain and 12 degrees, brrrr.  Lucky I have a new long sleeved pink top to wear!

Wait!  What was last weekend in Sydney?  You are confusing me with these events not on your training blog!

Glad you checked in. Sorry things at home are a bit off, but I'm pleased to hear that your son is joining you in the Oly.

How cold will the water be? I don't even own a wetsuit, so I just brave it, but I've never really had to suffer; nothing too terribly cold, only borderline wetsuit legal anyway, so some people had them and some didn't.

4 of my friends are actually racing with me this weekend. That's a first!

Alright, I need to confess another brilliant Salty moment.

We were discussing what starting waves we were in. My friend Sara and her twin sister Lisa are both doing the race. Sara says, "I think I am in the mixed AG." and I say, "Oh, is that so you can start with your sister?" Sara says, "My TWIN sister?"

Ughhhhhhhhh. I have been having one of those months! I swear I am not always this dense!

I will be back shortly (perhaps) to wish great colorful luck to our racers and catch up on posts, but in the meanwhile, I kinda need to find my plane ticket for tomorrow ... uh, I guess it's today as I need to leave in about 6 hours. Wish me luck.

My sister and I have both left everything to the last minute; we're kind of dreading this trip (we're going back to our folks' for the end-of-Ramadhan holiday, super big deal, bigger than Christmas here, so it's THE holiday) ... so much strife in the family lately. Not from us, though my sister's the scapegoat of the moment. Sigh.

But there are always important, useful, and lovely things to do with my mom and for my mom, so that's nice. I always like seeing my brother's kids, too; since we're all so close in age, they're more like my younger siblings.

Excellent point, Salty. Thank you. There will be all kinds of wonderful food and treats in great abundance, special ones we only have at this time of year. MMMMMMM I need every reason I can to drag my butt on that plane ...

I did find the ticket but unfortunately that means I need to pack.

Anything I'm likely to forget that I should bring?
