Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Ran 13 miles this morning with my running group. - well, really 12 with them and 1 with my dog. Beautiful running weather right now, so I have to take advantage of it before it gets so hot and humid. Hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow. Happy weekend all! |

Extreme Veteran 759 Villanova | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Ok, I have a question on training for you guys: I'm heading into my plan for IMLOU. I'm going to use Don Fink again (used his intermediate plan for IMCDA last year). My times for IMCDA were as follows Top third in swim, bottom third in bike and middle to bottom in run. I want to have a bike specific focus because its definitely my weak link. So I'm thinking of ramping up the bike time. I've been really encouraged by training with Trainer Road and the virtual power workouts. Here's how I'm planning on setting the plan up as far as what a general week would look like. Let me know your thoughts. Pick it apart: Monday: Swim/Trainer Ride 1-1.5 hours at endurance/tempo Tuesdays: REST or a recovery paced swim Wednesdays: Trainer Ride 1 hour ride with of intervals above FTP/Run Thursdays: Swim/Run Fridays: Trainer ride 1-1.5hours with sweet spot intervals Saturdays: LONG RIDE/Run brick Sundays: LONG RUN |

Extreme Veteran 692 England | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Our tri club swim session was cancelled today (some kind of problem with the pool), so I took the opportunity to try out the new bike on the turbo. It wasn't a great training ride because I'm still figuring out my set up. The seat position still isn't quite right, but I got it to the point where I could try it out. I could really feel the difference in the riding position, so I landed up doing an easy session to try to get used to the difference in muscle use. So, two questions for the group: 1) For those who've gone from a road bike to a tri bike, is there a recommended way to transition from one to the other (work up gently, or just jump right in)? 2) I'm planning on getting a retul bike fit done. Should I get it done straight away or wait a couple of weeks until I've had chance to get a little more used to the position? |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED chapfallen - 2013-03-30 4:05 PM IMO, you should get the fit done right away, getting accustomed to the bike will be easier if you are set up correctly. When I went from roadie to tri I had very little trouble making the transition. The main thing for me was just getting a feel for the handling while in aero and that came rather quickly. Staying aero was just a matter of doing a bit more each time on the bike until I was completely comfortable. Again, that was fast as I think my bady just fits well with aero. Really the biggest issue for me was getting my neck muscle used to the position. That took the longest of all!Our tri club swim session was cancelled today (some kind of problem with the pool), so I took the opportunity to try out the new bike on the turbo. CLOSED Hey all - rest day on the training plan today, but I ran a 5K with my younger daughter. In fact, the whole family ran - all three (hubby and both daughters) set PRs. I'm so proud of all of them! Tomorrow, a longish (short for me, though) run is on tap...too bad it looks like rain all day (and the Y is closed for Easter). Guess I'll be running through the raindrops! |

Expert 1187 Ontario | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED My totals aren't much but I did do something on 17/31 days this month, so more than half of the days which is a big improvement for me. I'm setting an April goal to do something 5 days/week, so I should have at least 20 pink squares on my April calendar. Will also focus on the eating to seriously drop 5 lbs in the 30 days.

April goals: Follow my training plan, still Have a good solid sprint tri effort on 4/27 Start getting into the OWS spirit (clinic 4/20, supervised swims starting throughout April) Eat clean. Not exactly sure what April will bring, probably a better balance between SBR and a little rebuilding before heading into the season. My primary goal is to get my eating back on track now that the marathon is over and drop some weight and BF. Current Weight: 106 Season Target: not completely sure what it should be, maybe 102? |

Most of my bike time was on the trainer so no mileage for those rides. Happy overall with the reasonable balance. Need to Keep the swim more tri specific focus which is happening in the new Master's class. Even the old one for the most part is more tri focused which is good. Hate wasting time with a lot of other strokes I will never competitively swim. I am looking forward to better weather and getting outside for more rides. My road bike needs to go in for a tune up ....so does the tri bike but I'll do the roadie first so I can have it for the training rides. Goal to keep the weight in check and keep healthy all summer. |

Bike and swim are down from February, but run is up, which I'm pleased about. Looks like the weather MAY be starting to pick up a little here. It's still very cold (just above freezing most days), but the little snow we're getting isn't settling, so it's impacting on training a lot less. April goals: Swim - stay in lane 1 at the tri club sessions. Work out long term options for my 2nd swim, with as many at the 50m pool as possible so that I can cancel my local swim membership. Bike - get adjusted to the tri bike. I've decided for the short term that I'm going to do 30min easy on the turbo every day. It's already feeling a lot more "normal". I'm going to arrange my bike fit asap and then all my turbo sessions will be on the tri bike, with my outdoor rides on either the roadie or the mtb depending on weather (hopefully mostly roadie). Run - continue as for march (long run/hills/track). Continue building my long run towards my April 28th HM (first race of the year!). |

Extreme Veteran 692 England | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Fred D - 2013-04-01 11:33 AM Solid month Judi! Weather will still suck here for this week, so really hoping next week turns around. My biking felt really good on Saturday which I was surprised at as I have not hit the trainer that strongly this year. Won't be getting much training in likely today, but what's on tap for the groups training today? Today is a "free" day for me, because I should have been at work, but it's a bank holiday. So after a nice lie in we're planning a swim and then I'm going to get in my long run, which should put me a little ahead for the week. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Morning Everyone! I'm back after falling off the wagon (and, judging by the way I felt these last two weeks, getting run over by it). I did my first workout in two weeks this morning, a 50 min jog. It was rough, but I expected that given the circumstances. Lots of things kept me away from training, including being sick, having my allergies go haywire with Spring flirting with us, and a huge work deadline...excuses. Anyway, back at it this morning with vigor. New eating plan kicks in today too. Trying paleo (or modified paleo more likely), which should be interesting because the wife is a vegetarian. We ought to get some karmic balance points for this experiment, yes? Hope everyone has a great day! g |

Good month for me. I think I only missed 3 planned workouts the whole month. I'll be cutting back slightly this week as I've got an important time trial on Sunday, but after that it will be a nice long 7 week block leading into my HIM. |

My gut told me to stay in the neighborhood and do hill repeats. Good thing. Flatted out. Had I been out on the roads I would have had about 8 miles of walking on a not so safe road since all my change tools were in the garage. The good news is I am getting better and faster at changing the rear tire.enders_shadow - 2013-04-01 4:58 PM Gorgeous day outside - maybe a little windy...but my bike is getting tuned-up, so I was stuck on the stationary at the Y.
