Regular 169 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread You finished about 10 minutes ahead of me Dallas. I had a horrible swim and almost bagged it but made the turn on the second lap and slogged in. Enjoyed the bike and the first lap of the run. My stomach went south about mile 16 and I walked most of the last 10. |

Veteran 597 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread That swim was brutal! I thought it. Would have been better the second time around but after the first turn buoy and the chop the second lap was worse. Ugh!The bike was a blast for me (but I am a cyclist at heart) it was a bit of a slog going it to the turnaround as it was almost a total albeit gradual uphill all the way but the ride back into town was amazing! I had a very good bike with holding back some for the run and still averaged 18mph. Was very stoked! The run was painful from the getgo as I just did not have enough run training. Never ran more than 15 leading up to it so walked a good bit. By the way my left ankle is killing me as well and I have never had ankle issues so must have been that slanted road.My goal time was somewhere around 13 and was able to finishe in 12:36:59! Not bad for 1st IM and on,y second Triathalon and that is if you count the HIM since they cancelled my swim so technically this was my first tri! Woo hoo! |

Member 17 Sammamish | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread OK Swim, a rookie hit me on the bike at mile 60 which added almost 45 minutes of bike repairs, first aid and getting checked out by a medic. Was on so much pain that I walked almost all of the marathon. Ended up with a 14:18. Loved the bike course, but I'm from Seattle and am used to hills. The head wind was humbling out to the turn around, but awesome for the ride back. Falling is one thing, getting taken out by someone when there is plenty of room to pass (and I had just passed him) sucks. Outside of that, the experience of the race was more than I expected. There was no way I was going to quit. |

Extreme Veteran 408 Spokane, Wa | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Ouch!! That was a painful day. Swim was pretty awful. Started to get really cold on the second loop and that chop was brutal. It was the hardest ironman swim I've ever had. Bike went well. I started to move back through the field, unfortunately I left the run legs at home and ended up walking quite a bit. Ended up at 10:30 and that will be my last ironman for a looooong time! In the end I got what I deserved with the lack of volume that I put in. I hope everyone enjoyed cda! |

33 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I heard the person is in stable condition (per the paper). Those volunteers on the course were absolutely incredible. I've never experienced anything like that. Made my plan to walk through all the transitions very enjoyable. If you local folks know any of them please pass on my thanks. |

There was no way I was going to quit. That bites. Where was this at? I saw a couple cyclists down at one point. Glad you were able to keep going. I thought the swim was brutal too. Like two year ago. I was pretty sick from it the first 20 miles of the bike, but after I took care of that wound up having a pretty good day. Run was about what I thought it would be since I hadn't run very much because of plantar fascia trouble. Enjoyed the day all and all. Love the volunteers and that big group at the apartment building on the run. They get to be pretty fun a little later. Congrats all. |

Regular 233 NW | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread That swim was brutal but luckily I found a good swimmer and latched on behind him for 3/4 of the first loop and the full time for the second loop. I didn't have to sight once!! "We" came in around 1:10. I have to say I liked the new bike course with the exception of the no-pass on the big downhill. I'm a slow climber, and slow on flat land, and slow into the wind, and... but can go downhill like a cannonball so having people up front on the horns riding the brakes was very frustrating. Ended up with just under a 17 average. The run course is where I thought I could pick it up on. At the first turn around, my left knee, tendon, I don't know, said a big hold on everytime I went from walking to running. Anyone around me that saw me start to run after walking through the aid stations most likely thought I wasn't going to make it. But after about 30-40 secs, I could smooth it out from a gimby limping job to a smooth jog. Still hurts like the dickens. Ended up finishing 12:29 which was an IM PR for me by about 6 minutes. I had my last two IM finishing times printed on the back of my jersey (along with Carfrae and Lieto's autographs) with a blank spot for 2012 IMCdA and there was no way it was going to say DNF if I could help it. So it was great to get encouragement from fellow athletes telling me I could PR the day. Once again, the people of Coeur d'Alene were amazing. Last winter and this winter I said I would never sign up for CdA again because of winter training in the northwest. Then I go and think - why would I not want to come back? |

Member 262 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Congrats to everyone who was willing to step up to the line. Sorry to hear that some had there day end early.......hope you get back on the iron horse and give it another go. I have to agree, the people of CDA and the surrounding area were great. Beautiful area and wonderful people. Thanks to everyone for the advice you shared in preperation for this race. Because of that advice I made sure to enjoy the entire day. Everytime I saw my wife, kids, parents, in laws, bros and sisters.....I made sure to wave and say thanks on the bike. On the run i would make my way over to them and give them 5. I made sure to enjoy every minute of the road to the finish.....it was surreal having the crowd cheering like they were. I couldn't keep the smile from my face. Stopped in the shoot looking for my family....so glad I did. Meant the world to my wife when I kissed her. Funny thing about the swim, I asked my family if it got choppy part way through the swim and they said they didn't think so. So I thought it must have felt that way because I was with so many other swimmers. Good to know that it was actually choppy. Race went good for me. Didn't really have goals for anything. Tried to keep my swim effort moderate and watched my heart rate on the bike and run. Pleased with my bike time but a little surprised by my run time. I went pretty conservative on the bike so I thought I would have more left for the run. I did run all but the aid stations so i was pleased about that. Good first(and maybe last) IM. 11:05 |

Regular 233 NW | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread CdA participants: The bike profile on their website said/says 2,306 feet of gain. Was that for just one loop or did it just feel that way because of the headwind? Serious question because I wouldn't be surprised if it was for just one loop but I thought it was for both. |
