Just a reminder the Louisville Bicycle Club is having it's Tour De Maddog iron dog century this Sunday at 7a.m. from the yellow lot. Large group of club and tri folks saftey in numbers kind of thing if you want to ride the course.

I'll be in Lousiville this weekend attending Coach Troy's Ironman Training camp......we are riding Sat. so I can't do both, Darnit!

On another note....does anyone know of a place where we can take a quick dip in the River??  Just want to make sure my one friend has a chance to get in and see that it's not as nasty as all the naysayers imply...

THanks,
Paul

Bamadc and few folks have inquired about the Harrod's creek bridge status. A federal judge just ruled that work can resume, this has been an on and off again battle between the city and riverfields and conservation group. Imlou 09 will be out imlou 10 it should be complete as a two lane bridge.

I was told by a competitor on Saturday that there's a group swim at Cardinal Harbor on Friday mornings at 7am. Cardinal Harbor is at the end of Rose Island road where the half iron took place last Saturday. I can't make it tomorrow, but perhaps next week?? Good luck.

All, this will be my first Ironman event, and I have what some may consider "dumb" questions - I just don't know the answers to them, so I thought I'd ask for input from this group.

1.  What should you include in your special needs bags?  Just food? an extra tube & C02 cartridge? clean socks?
2.  If you don't use your special needs bag, do you get it back after the race, or is it thrown away?
3.  On the bike, do you stop for your SN bag, or is it a flying grab like a bottle exchange?
4.  How tightly do the judges call penalties?  Specifically drafting?  I certainly don't plan on drafting, but with the course being a 2 loop course, and having so many people competing, it seems to me that you would have to work really hard to say out of the "zone".  I've done some 70.3's, and I didn't see even one penalty - but I did see lots of drafting.

If there are other things that seem to be "basic", but which first time IM'ers might now know, could you also post those?

A month to go - anyone else getting nervous like me?

Thanks,
Joel

some put a spare tube, but I only put food, advil, spare salt tabs.
2.  If you don't use your special needs bag, do you get it back after the race, or is it thrown away?
Im pretty sure they are tossed out after race
3.  On the bike, do you stop for your SN bag, or is it a flying grab like a bottle exchange?
Most slow slightly, some will stop and relax and some will fly by
I did not hear of many penalties, but with all the rolling hills it seams to break the field up quite a bit.
If there are other things that seem to be "basic", but which first time IM'ers might now know, could you also post those?
I would just race your race, don't worry about what others are doing and have fun!!! remember the race is the reward for all the training!
A month to go - anyone else getting nervous like me?

For the IM Louisville veterans. What can we expect for post race food? What did they have last year and where if any was it located?

Thanks

I'm on a two week taper.  From looking at cycling peaks, my TSB can increase over 30 points in a moderate training week(12 hr).

They had all kinds of food in one of the hotels right next to the finish line, to be honest I cannot remember what it was. I know they had all kinds of cookies and brownies (yum after a long day)  I ended up ordering a pizza.  If I cannot remember it must not have been anything special.

I did a HIM yesterday. It poured down on the bike and was freezing. I was having trouble picking food out of my bento box as my fingers were beginning to stop working!!! NOT great practice for the heat. I was pleased with my nutrition though. I felt great off the bike. Even had to slow myself down. Just hope it goes as well in Louisville

Oh man.  Tough draw.  I had my first DNF at Powerman Ohio with similar conditions.  A volunteer had to unstrap my shoes and unbuckle my helmet because my fingers were useless.  THEN, when I went to our van to warm-up, my hand was so cold I couldn't turn the key in the ignition for about 10 minutes, and I had to use two hands to do it!
SO, I feel for you and admire your determination.

Amazing.  I'm thinking you'll be ready for the heat.  It's been fall-like here in Michigan.  Irritating to those of us trying to acclimate to heat.
Tuned in the Ironmanlive.com yesterday for Lake Placid.  Very inspiring.  Juices flowing.
Long swim today...can't wait!  Love it!
Peace.
