For finkster people, im just curious what your zone 2 HR zones are for bike and run.

Mine:
Run: 142-156bpm
Bike: 131-148bpm

My Run Zone 2 is 136 - 143

My Bike Zone 2 is roughly 130 - 138

My resting HR is around a 43 and occasionally dips down to the upper 30's.

It's been a while since my last run test and I suspect it needs to be updated.  My bike zone feels spot on.

speaking of which...does anyone use 5k races as a run test?  I may do a 5k a week from Saturday, it'd be nice to kill two birds with one stone.  I'd expect to finish around or just under 26 minutes.  not quite 30 minutes but I'd certainly be pushing the whole time.

I can't see why this wouldn't work for a run test.   In my opinion, you're more apt to push yourself in a race scenario than a "test" during training.  My run data comes from a trail race I ran where I busted hump the whole time.  During races I am able to really got a good idea what my max is.

My bike zone 2 is:  138-149

These were taken months ago when I first got my Garmin for Christmas.  I think I will also re-test soon as my body has changed significanty and I expect my heart has as well.  This will be a true measurable of my progress.

For me

Z2 Run:  132-150

Z2 Bike:  125-142

My run feels spot on, with my bike though that 140 feels high.  I have a feeling during LP I'm going to try and keep it lower part of Z2.  As DC mentioned posts ago I'll have more energy for the run and not have too optimistic of a Bike Split.  Rather enjoy the race than having an ugly DNF stamped next to my first IM.  All that time, money, and families time wasted just because i set a goal that is too optimistic... I don't like the sound of doing that.

Question; who's corporate? And I mean higher level management, exec, vp, director, ect. That works a min of 55 hrs/week, >15% travel, client dinners and other work related functions during some of the week nights. There should be a handicap given by the WTC or at least a tshirt. I can tell DC and Calvinball are not from their just above coma heart rate levels. Anyways, I had a dinner tonight where I ate responsibly (fish) but drank 3 beers over apps and dinner. Then I had to run intervals for an hour, fifteen. It was a gassy and painful run in which either the gym was closing or I was clearing people out. But got it done. Anyone else doing this?

HA!

I had a work dinner the other night with my client's boss, a couple politicians and a slew of their best friends.  By the time all the yabbing and gabbing and glad handing got done, I was absolutely famished.  They were lucky I didn't swipe extra portions.  At any rate, I got my run in by running home afterward -- I changed and left my suit at the office.  While it is not really polite conversation, this is an Ironman forum after all: It was the most gassy run I've had perhaps ever.

I really just meant; whos working over 50 hrs, traveling and entertaining?  I know there are a lot of people that have really busy schedules.  Its fun and helps me to hear that others are doing workouts that are unconventional in order to adapt to their schedules.  Add that to fact that this is Lake Placid, with hills, and it cuases a certain uneasyness in me (at least) being a first-timer.  Sorry if it came our wrong.  I think a bit jealous of the low heart rates from some of the guys - they are incredible.  Im too jacked up on caffeine all week to get my HR low.  Best to everyone.

Need some advice. I found a new front 2011 404 firecrest clincher for $699 OTD. this is what I want to race with (all the time). Sounds like a good deal! Is it silly to have one race wheel and rent the rear. I'd like to buy a rear, but then I'd have to get another PT and this is where my budget goes over. I think I'm just looking for someone's approval. lol. Ya or Nay???

I chuckled at this too. One of my fiances coworkers once asked if we could bring the pork loin to the bbq because...get this.... "You don't have kids so you have more money than the rest of us." Ha.

I work as a financial advisor and while I don't have a 50+ hour work week I do get caught up in the lunches that wholesalers bring in. Also, they like to take us out to dinner and drinks from time to time and it can be hard to sit there and explain why you are not drinking. But talking about it  does come in handy when one is a rep for ING and can get me in the NYC marathon next year.

I use the following lines a lot if I meet people out,"I already ate." or "I am driving so I don't want to drink." No one can really give you $hit if you don't want to D and D. And if they do, do you really want to hang with those people anyway?

Having bought a new set of 404/808 firecrests for my wife about 7 months ago it sounds like a great deal to me, but I really don't know what the market looks like for wheels that are effectively last years model. - I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it if it seems like a good deal based on your research, and wouldn't think anything of of renting a rear. Somebody is going to ask you though, so it might as well be me - what about a wheel cover on on your existing PT?

Hi Jim - i am on the road all the time for work, including a good bit of both national and international travel. I often have to do kinda nutty things to get my workouts in. For example, I always pack running clothes in my carry on, and have been known to do hour long runs in airport parking decks during a layover. Just last night my wife told me she got all of her strength work done at the office, which included doing lunges to and from the printer (she even printed to the machine the furthest from her office). She is the boss though, so no one would make fun of her, at least not to her face.

Major BC- I don't think being that busy is as uncommon for this group as some people think.  I think by nature many triathletes are very "type A" and therefore busy.  I'm not an exec, but I'm a grad student who works a minimum of 60hrs a week, has to travel to conferences, and teach classes. The thing that keeps me going is that I really enjoy my training.  As busy as I am and exhausted I may be after doing a day full of surgeries and dealing with undergrads, going for a run/bike/or swim after helps me unwind. The good feelings that go with finishing a tough workout or doing well in a triathlon makes sacrificing having a social life or any down time while in my 20s worth it for me.

Tell me more...about the wheel cover.haha. I was going to rent a 808 for the rear. Originally thought about the disc, but if it gets windy I'm worried about getting swept away. I've never did any research about the disc wheels or covers. Can you elaborate please? Thanks

Oh yea, I think the buy on the wheel is good because I have been checking places almost every day. That's what I do at work... I'm not an exec yet.hahaha

My question would be,"Why would you train with power and then go rent a rear wheel without it?" To me you would be flying blindly then. I use an 808 front and a rear wheel cover from wheelbuilder.com. They cut it to your specific specifications, including having a PT.

according to the research it is as aero if not more aero than the full disc and you can take it off during training, travel etc. Plus you save about $1000 by doing so. lol. I think it is about $90 with shipping from wheelbuilder.com .... no I don't get paid for endorsing them.

just my 2 cents

and ^^ there^^ ya go!

That is the prevailing wisdom, although I assume you were going to rent a power tap wheel rear wheel for the race, right? Not sure what that would set you back, but I will bet that renting a power tap wheel costs a good bit more than a wheel cover? I'll let the experts chime in on the wheel covers (I don't own one and have never ridden one) but I will say that you really shouldn't worry about the wind with a disk - it is way overblown (HA!). I have found that a disk often seems MORE stable in the wind, not less. For the record I ride with a 1080 zipp rear, just because it tested as fast as a disk on my current setup (P2c) when i bought it and was lighter. Except at low yaws, the newer Firecrest 808 generally matched the 1080, so zipp quit making it.

Anyway, for 100 bucks, it seems like you could try out the wheel cover and see if you like it?

And besides, the only real shortcoming that I can see with a wheel cover is that it won't make the WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH sound of a proper disk.

I really dislike eating and then running.  Its really a burden.  There are times that I dont have a choice.  The drinks are just casual and over hours and hours so D&D is not occuring.  However, it drains your energy after you just want to sit on a couch.

Night ride tonight!  We should get in 30 to 40 miles with over half of it in daylight.  Lights on for the darkside.

If I was renting a rear wheel, I would rent one that has a PT built in. I'm going to be looking into this cover thing a bit more though. Thanks!

sarc]And besides, the only real shortcoming that I can see with a wheel cover is that it won't make the WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH sound of a proper disk.
I LIKE THE WOOSH, WOOSH WOOSH SOUND THOUGH. Now you guys have me thinking.....hmmmmmm.

I got in a nice post work ride in Harriman tonight.  Lake Welch Drive is open for driving/riding, but Lake Tioroti is stil closed to traffic, but ridable for cyclists.  What a great ace to train...

Enjoy the weekend training.  Be safe!

Anyone registered for the endurance nation $99 training camp this june?
I just visited their site and now its $595.  I wonder if we have to pay the difference if we're already registered?
