Ok...newby showing his colors here.  That post was supposed to go under our friend toughing out the 94 degree heat in JAX.  I clicked "Reply" on the post, but in became a new comment instead of going underneath.  What am I doing wrong?
Please don't say, "Your just an idiot." Tongue out

Sam....Don't worry about the threading of posts, that's just the way it goes..

As a way to start the updates.....I just got back from a long training weekend in Louisville.....ran the run course on Sat......14 miles in 1:50 (pretty good for me), then had an indoor bike workout witht he training group I was with (Coach Troy - Mr. Spinervals....live and in person)......the weather on Sat was AWFUL!! Rain, lightning, Hail, wind.....crazy bad....did the best we could.

Sunday AM up early and rode the entire bike course......folks, I was reminded that this course will kick you in the pants on lap two if you aren't careful in your energy expenditures the first time around.....and there were more hills than I remembered.......I rode with a group and we were holding a solid 19-20 mph until mid-way through the second lap when some of the folks I was leading began to struggle so I had to back it off to make sure everyone found their way back!

It was not that hot and folks were still showing signs of bonking and coming up short on elelctrolytes......Folks, be aware of the weather and remember, just becasue it isn't brutally hot or such, you still need to take care of your body....drink, eat and replace those elevtrolytes and you can finish the bike ride strong.....

My.02 for today,
Paul

I rode the entire bike on Sunday as well.  Its too bad the weather can't be the same Aug 30th Cool.  Also i couldn't agree more about watching that first loop energy/effort.  I passed several people the second time around that came crusing by me the first loop.  Can't wait for the race....or the taper for that matter

Both times I've been on the bike course there has been a head wind all the way back on 42 and into town.  Made the end of the ride much more challenging than I had expected.

One word of warning:

If you are out riding the course....the local Sheriffs are watching and NOT tolerant.......the local's displeasure about all the bike traffic seems to have had some influence on this.......I watched one cyclist get pulled over yesterday by a police officer (lights and all) after running the red light @ River Road and 42 even though he did slow down and look around as he passed the intersection........watch yourselves......

I just noticed this, but says it was updated on 7/1/2009 ... Its official, Wolf Pen is in for the bike.  Swim and run look to be unchanged.  This change for the bike will add about .7 miles.

timdude - 2009-07-23 7:09 PM Bamadc and few folks have inquired about the Harrod's creek bridge status. A federal judge just ruled that work can resume, this has been an on and off again battle between the city and riverfields and conservation group. Imlou 09 will be out imlou 10 it should be complete as a two lane bridge.

I'm assuming they'll adjust the length elsewhere (1694?).  It's the extra hill that is gonna be fun.

Today I ran for the first time in over 6 weeks!  Stress fracture sidelined me, but I'm hoping I can make it through the IMKY mary (fingers and toes crossed).  This weekend did a 5 hour ride and almost 5K of climbing!

Paul-
Sounds like a productive weekend.  I appreciate your comments (from Paul and others who have ventured out on the course recently).  It looks like it will be a tough one.  I did IM Wisconsin and I'm expecting Louisville to be more challenging.  Heck...it's an Ironman, it's challenging no matter how you slice it eh?
Great swim today.  1:20-ish for what I think is 2.4 in our lake.  I'm getting more and more comfortable with the non-wetsuit scenario.  I love my neoprene life preserver and poor-efficiency adjuster, but even with a cool summer, I'm not planning on using it.
Steelhead 70.3 coming up.  Getting psyched.  Likely goin' old school with tri-briefs this go 'round for grins...which I'm sure will be o'plenty, especially from those who started triathlon after 1997.
A tri what?  Brief?  Dude!
There are usually a few of us brave (read...goofballs/idiots/shameless ones) out there.  Once a year.
Peace,
~Sam

Sorry to barge in, but wanted to say GOOD LUCK to everyone racing this year.  I am thinking about racing next year.  Anyone know how long registration typically stays open?  I am competing in my first HIM in late Sept. (Augusta 70.3) and want to see how that goes first.  Thanks for the help and GOOD LUCK!

I can't tell you exactly how long registration will stay open. However, IMKY registration for this year was open for much longer than any other IM. For 2009 it was at least open for a month and maybe longer.

Srsly!  Yuck ... its dinner time.  There were a few of those in Muncie, though one guy did take the time to put a hat on for the run.  Needs to be BANNED FROM ALL USAT SANCTIONED EVENTS!  Keep your clothes on freaks!

OK was checking out the ironman web site and  went to the store there is nothing there for Kentucky.  Seems liek kentucky is the red headed step chils of the events!  So is it worth sticking around for the banquet anhyone ever go to one?   Yeah the weather in upstate new  York is crazy this year rain and  much colder than normal.   So when is everyone heading down how early I will be in town at some point on Wed or early Thurday morning before the event how early is everyone else heading down?

It was open till December of 2008 (registration for the 2009 race).  I bet we don't see KY fill up till March/April of next year. . .just my opinion.  CDA is still open and it is over 1 month later. . ..
