Yo everybody - our son was born this morning. Both mom and baby are doing well. We haven't decided on a name yet, not sure why it is so difficult with this one. He weighed in at 7 lbs and measures 19 3/4 inches. I'll get some pics up when we get home

Matt, congratulations on the new baby!

So I have a quick question for you all here.  Take a quick look /read at my Training Log for today... not the actual training.

I ordered my bike 2 weeks ago and it's still not in, no word on when it will be in and/or ready.  I'm frustrated, but am I overracting?

I might be a bit perturbed, maybe send Tom Demmerly, the owner of BSM a PM over on ST and see what he has to say.  He seems to be a very nice guy and maybe he can give you a better answer, he is on ST all the time posting.

On the other hand if they have to order it from Cervelo  there might not be much they can do about it, though would have been good to know up front how long it would really take.

Oh and also BTW everyone I am sorry I am a horrible inspirer...  Lots of my VA MD DC BT'er friends inspire each other all day.  I tend to remember to do it once a week at best.

So Jeremy it has been my experience that Cervelo takes a LONG time to get the bikes in.  3 years ago when I bought mine I ended up settle on Campy gears vs Dura-Ace just so I didn't have to wait some ungodly amount of time... I cancel an order at one bike shop just because it was taking so long.  I hate to say it, but it may be a while !!!

Thanks, Tom actually called me tonight and said that my bike fell in a large Cervelo order.  I should have it next week.  Tom was very polite over the phone, he actually seems pretty friendly in person when I went for my fitting.

Matt... Congrats on the new addition!

Jeremy...What did you order P2 or P3?  I read you log, and I know what you mean about HR.  Mine seems to be higher for the run than the bike when doing about the same work load.  When I am working really hard, my run is in the 165 to 170 range, and my bike at about the same effort seems to be in the 155 range or so.  I don't think i have ever gotten my cycling HR as high as my run.

Hey Matt--any name yet? Congrats to you and your wife on the latest addition to the family.

Jeremy -- I have heard that your bike HR is usually about 10 beats lower than your running HR at effort. I did come across this article that I thought was interesting.  I have found this winter that I can get my HR up to my Tempo or Interval running HR, but it is usually for brief periods of time. The article would suggest I need to become a better biker and it is on the mark.  I have been a runner for 6 years and this is only my second year of biking.

Matt - Samuel James is a great name!  Is this your first child? I hope you and your family are able to go home soon and that momma heals up quickly.

Barry - I ordered the P2C with Ultegra components.  I think part of my problem is that I'm too anxious waiting.

Tony - Tom does seem very friendly and called me back last night.  Hopefully my bike will be in and I'll get fitted mid to late next week.  He said it would be here for my TT.

Suzy - thank you so much for that article!  It makes perfect sense to me.  What I suspected was just that I needed more time on the bike to learn how to push myself harder.  Now I also understand why I need to hit my legs more in strength training.

I hope you all have a great weekend.  It's supposed to be upwards of 50 here today, so I may just take the old road beast out for a ride.

Good article Suzy, guess I need to hit the hills.

Congrats Matt!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  It would appear to be warm here but for some reason, 50F feels super freezing today with the winds, so I did a trainer ride instead.

I was trying to get my HR up to 120 at least and noticed it stuck close to 115 even though I was in the Big gear/15 in the back! So then I read Suzy's article and I guess I just have to keep at it, maybe get out and do some hills and maybe even do a little lower body strength training.  The problem with that is I usually feel so sore and achy that it makes the next day's run or bike feel especially hard.

What to do?

Jeremy, I am sure that Steve or Tony would be better providing insight specific to biking, but I really think that the bike specific training is going to be WAY mroe important than strength training, especially in season.  While I am most familiar with the specificity concept for running, this is one article that addresses it for cycling.   Unless you have a muscle imbalance or severe weakness (which I doubt you do based on your strength training!), I would put this 20-30minutes to use on your new Cervelo!  Just my two cents...again.

Guys, what do you think?

Barry--I think the name reference was a hoot and I don't even drink the brand.

Matt-I do love the name Sam.  It brings back memories of a childhood crush I had on Sam Brinkman, what I wouldn't have given.....oh well never mind....congrats!

Matt - congrats on the birth of your son!  Hope mom and baby are doing well.

Well guys, I had my first race (running) since Nov this morning.  It went well after I got past the first mile.  First mile is always tough but this one included a hill and I haven't been doing any hill training at all over the winter.  Definitely something I need to work on.  This was the first 7k that I've done so I wasn't sure what to expect time wise but I did have a goal of 50 minutes based on my times from past 5k's and 5 milers.  I'm happy to say that I beat my goal and came in at 49:11Smile!  It turned out to be a really nice morning for a run.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Janet

Great run Janet! I haven't found a 7k race, but that sounds like a nice distance. There are a few 8ks out in VA which I have enjoyed, and one really fun one in Alhambra, CA near Halloween (if they still run it)

Alright team...So I'm not sure if i am suffering from post-race letdown or what. I have zero motivation to get out there and do anything. I just drug myself out for a run . Did a whopping 3km. I'm not sure if it is becuase I had put so much of the last 6 months into geting myself ready for last Sunday or what. It's probably a short term funk , I know but I just feel blahhhhhh.

I do have other sprints planned and I am considering doing my 1st Oly  around the end of June to coinside with turning 36yrs old.
