Gonna start tomorrow. Now I just have to plan my session. Haven't done that in a while. I thought that your training plan included swim sets? I am using Fink's book and there are swim sets in there. I looked up the one scheduled for today and that is what I used. All 3,000 yards (that'll take some getting use to) of it. |

Took 15 minutes to talk myself out of bed. Have a great day everyone. I was up at 4:15 as well! DH gets up that early and now since I can get to the pool earlier I thought I'd give it a try. Interestingly the pool was more crowded at 4:30 than at 6:00ish when I finished. Some water walkers, some swimmers. I shared a lane with some water walkers until the lane next to me opened up. I think I'm going to like it there. |

TJ, if you are looking for swim workouts: http://ntcmastersswim.blogspot.ca/ Noteyou may have to change the .ca to .com or .org I have found that it depends where you are trying to access it from. They have A, B and C workouts, A having the most mileage, C having the least. I have found them handy when swimming on my own. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! jmkizer - 2013-01-12 7:19 PM Ladies, I just read an interesting article in a local tri magazine. Women: Don't Overlook Men's Gear & Clothing for Triathlon Training I thought that some of their points were interesting, especially regarding shorts -- "depending on leg length and preference this may be a huge benefit: it provides greater compression, does not cut circulation in the middle of the quad and hamstring muscle, and decreases chaffing." I buy men's tri and biking and running clothes because much of the women's things I've run into are too short in the torso and often the shorts, too. Then again, it's always a challenge for me to find [women's] clothes that fit because of my height. |

Master 1890 Gig Harbor | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! StaceyK - 2013-01-13 3:58 PM THANKS YANTI AND CHAD for all that great swim advice about 100 pages back. I got in the pool this morning for the first time in about a month. Decided that I would take it easy and do 10x100s on 2:30. I concentrated on my catch and pull trying to keep my entry wide, my elbow high and arm perpendicular to the bottom (like in Yanti's photo). I must say it took some major concentration as I was trying to over ride 20 years of muscle memory. But it felt good and even though I slowed right down I was still getting a good 30 seconds rest between each 100. I did notice as soon as I stopped concentrating I went straight back to my old form. Going to take some time to imbed I think and then I will work on ridding the s pull from my stroke too. have a great day everyone. I might even make it to work on time today. You are welcome - and congratulations on your success! |

Wow, thanks manatee men for bravely posting before and after pics, and a huge congratulations to you all for making a healthier change FOR YOU!! Congrats Kirk on your excellent HIM finish!! Congrats to the manatees who got out in the cold and yucky weather to get their workouts in! Yanti, are the rats gone yet? Ick. Kind of in a funk today, I think I'm still tired from the busy, busy weekend. Yesterday just drained me. We had an away hockey game in NJ, a 3 hour drive one way. We carpooled, which helped but it still made for a long, tiring day. 2nd worst ice I've ever skated on, wow, just horrible. And there were steps to get up to the ice surface, cuh-razy!! Oh boy, it' like an adventure racing course. I have been to plenty of crappy rinks like that. One had like 16 concrete stairs they didn't even bother to cover with rubber. So we had to literally crawls up and down them so we didn't eff up our skates. Another rink had all chain link instead of glass above the boards. Made me feel super ghetto. Especially when your jersey would get snagged. Edited by Asalzwed 2013-01-14 12:14 PM |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! I did my 18-miler on Saturday with 8 miles @ race pace (ish) I had to do the 8 miles at the beginning instead of the middle since a friend (and his dog) were meeting me for the last 10. The whole run was really nice. I made some silly decisions (didn't take in any calories. WHY? I don't know! I had food with me...) But whatev. I was a good run. Afterwards I had to haul azz up to the track to watch Galen Rupp run the mile. It was incredible!!! Here are a few pictures, as you can see I need a faster shutter speed to catch him running: I had sat down to watch the vaulting after I watched the mile and totally randomly (I wasn't being a creeper) Galen came and sat next to me to do his post race stretching and change his clothes. I got to hear he and Alberto Salazar go over the race together. Such a cool experience!!! Sunday I was wiped. I knew I just needed a solid day of R&R . So that's what I did. I am very thankful this is a step back week. I need it. |

I really think the improvement is taking the time to slow down and think about the tips from the swim talk here lately, do some drills to reinforce good form, and keep the Yanti-avvy in my mind.
