CLOSED Can't wait to get my road bike back from the tune up so I can take the tri bike in for some work. Rode rough tonight. Shifting was funky, felt like the chain wasn't catching on the cluster at times--as in out of control which was scary on the down hills. Other times I was struggling to maintain speed in areas that I usually soar through. Makes a funny noise that I can only compare to when kids put trading cards in their spokes for noise. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Hit the pool this morning for a quick mile...and I do mean quick! Fastest mile I've ever done. I'm pleased with that, especially given the two weeks of yuck I'm coming out of. Tomorrow and Saturday are supposed to be beautiful days, so I'm hoping I can hit the road for a run/swim combo tomorrow and a long ride on Saturday morning. Saturday is supposed to be 70F!!! I'm almost giddy at the prospect of being outside in something less than 3 layers of clothing. Have a great day everyone! |

Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED 5k in the pool last night. Felt a little beat down this morning, and almost convinced myself to skip my morning run, but decided it would be better to just go easy and get the blood flowing a bit. It was just a short 30 minutes. It's a bit crazy though to think that while 5k was tough for me last night...that's not much longer than an IM swim. Just goes to show how much swim fitness it takes to be able to swim 2.4 miles and truely come out of the water fresh. Or even 750m, 1500m, or 1.2 miles for that matter. |

Extreme Veteran 692 England | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Made it outside on the tri bike this morning. I was really nervous that I'd find the handling scary (I was pretty scared the first few times out on the road bike when I'd been used to my hybrid). After my bike fit yesterday the position feels REALLY far forward. I felt like my nose was over the front spindle! But once I got going I found the handling was a lot easier than I expected. I really enjoyed the ride, but had to keep it short because I still need to adjust to the position. So I'll be continuing to spend time regularly on the tri bike to work on that. |

CLOSED Was texted a workout for a swim tonight--seems the gym changed the day of the week they are offering evening Master's class and neither the instructor nor I knew in advance. I have the app for the gym schedule on my phone, which I just put in a couple days ago, guess I will need to keep an eye on the schedules changing more. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Swimming and running this morning for me (30min of each). Run was great, swim was humbling. Lots of things contributed to the swim 1.) pool set in 50m monster 2.) first attempt at bilateral breathing 3.) guy in the next lane is one of the Olympians on our school swim team
I'm used to 1 & 3, but bilateral breathing was really kicking my butt. Then, about 20 minutes in I realized that it SHOULD be kicking my butt, as I was taking in about 25% less air than usual (duh!). Anyway, after that little light bulb went off I was still sucking wind at the end of each 100, but at least I knew why!
The weather is supposed to be NICE this afternoon, so I'm hoping to squeeze in a short bike ride after work. Then tomorrow is a long ride with temps in the 70s...yay Spring, you sure took your time getting here! Hope everyone has a great day! |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Bilateral breathing? I know that feeling well. I am still not proficient at it. Finished my long run so we're off to our house in northern Wisconsin. Normally we would be starting to think about opening the house up for Memorial Day weekend, but with 3-5" of snow in the forecast today, that won't be happening. I'm beginning to wonder if the lake will ever thaw and be warm enough for swimming! Enjoy the weekend. |

Thinking about changing my appointments at work so I can be home to sign for her. Yeah, you can tell what's important to me. (Especially since I'm out of town next Thursday-Saturday...I want to see her before I go!) 154.2 for this week! Yeah me! |

Expert 1023 , | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Kristen, it seems perfectly reasonable to me for you to rearrange your schedule so you can be there to get your bike Good to know I'm not the only one to have trouble with bilateral breathing. I've tried but I can really only breathe well to my left. I guess I should try harder. I know Ann Marie and Jason are racing this weekend, so good luck to you two. Does anyone else have a race? Have a great weekend everyone! |

In fact, I would look for a way to rearrange the trip so I could enjoy riding the new bike.
My roadie is fixed, now to get it so I can get the tri bike fixed too. |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Weigh in: 105, -1lbs from 3/31. True to prediction, we have 6 new inches of snow on the ground. Our lake still has a solid 12" of ice underneath the snow. Cars are still driving on it to ice fish. The only bright spot I can come up with is when we drive back home to madison it is supposed to be 61F. |

I know you like the training time up there. My road bike was finished yesterday as promised. Love the guys at Performance. Rides like a dream now and yes, with a new chain shifted fine from the little front ring back to the big one. Had a solid training day and productive day around the house. Going on a group ride tomorrow which I haven't done in a long time. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED I had a great ride this morning, until it wasn't anymore. About 8miles in I took a spill and, not to be too graphic, took the epidermal layer off a section of my thigh with the handle bar. Got back on the bike went on my less merry way, and the at about 10miles I broke my chain. I didn't even know that could happen!! I had to hoof it the last five moles home carrying my broken bike, limping, and walking stupidly because of my cycling shoes. So...how bad is that for my shoes? Spent the rest of the day doing yardwork stuff. Hope you all had great Saturdays, and rhose of you who raced today, I hope it rocked! |

Ouch, we've all had bad days like that before.....just not all at the same ride. Heal fast. Not great for the shoes....but really there are worse things. Hope you heal fast and get a new chain on soon. |

Just think of all the mental toughness you're developing through that. I think my worst ride to date involved a puncture (where it started hailing while we were changing the tube), a broken spoke, snow and then a broken chain. Fortunately I didn't combine it with crashing! Hope you re-grow your skin fast... |

My bike shoes have had to walk in a few times - they are OK...scuffed, but still totally usable. PS - I've also walked home in socks because the shoes were too much a pain-in-the-butt to walk in. Ruined a perfectly nice pair of socks that way. |

Very bad luck that you broke your chain. My multi tool has a chain thingy on it, but I wouldn't want to try to fix it on the side of the road. I got outside to ride for the first time in a couple of months today and realized a few things. I should have pushed myself harder on the trainer, I'm not in great shape, and riding my bike is fun! |

Doesn't matter how fast or slow we are sometimes. Having fun during the training and racing makes it amazing. Yeah, it' nice to have competitive splits and be on a podium......but most of us who train and race recreationally just like doing this for fun.drfoodlove - 2013-04-06 7:21 PM I had a great ride this morning, until it wasn't anymore.
