So, not nearly as exciting as completing a big race, but an accomplishment just the same. I came the closest to meeting my planned training hours this week since I made the big move to PA and started doing all of the commuting

I went to an awesome spinning class this morning and wralked - it feels good to be back!

The REAL accomplishments, Bethie my love, are made in such weeks. Without them--no races. Well done.

This is the finest group of humans ever. Thank you so much for the love and support. More later ... it was a big privilege to meet Terri at the race and it gave me such a boost to see her there.

That was an amazing RR, Yanti. I got all teary-eyed! At several places!

I do think it's kind of hilarious that it took a HIM to make you realize it's time for a new bike. *g*

Eh, that's the thing ... if I hit him, I would have been the DNS. However, karma has a funny way of nibbling at people's patooties ... so I'm sure he got his.

Seeing you here, there, and everywhere all weekend was such a treat and a highlight. You are a beautiful and inspirational woman ... you remind me of John Bingham's quote, "The miracle is not that I finished, it's that I had the courage to start." THANK YOU!!!

Great RR Yanti!  Thanks--we are all looking for your pearls of wisdom when you feel like sharing.  By that, I mean how did you get through something so tough and how can we do similar in our races???

Foot update-all's well, just irritated, no stress fracture!  He thinks I need orthotics.  Do any of you use them? What's your experience?  He says my arches are inflexible and due to my *ahem* age and size (talk about feeling old and fat) and my amount of running, it would probably help absorb shock and prevent future overuse injury.

Hormone update-Weaning is nearly complete.  Down to six seconds total per 24 hours.  I am taking away 2 seconds per day.  I feel like my mood swings have slowed a bit, too.  It was a tough weekend for my poor family to be near me.....but better now!  The kid is still not very happy about ending nursing but I am sticking to it this time.

My daughter wears orthotics and swears by them.  She's only 17, so I'm sure it has nothing to do with age or anything else

That's great news, Leslie. It's always a relief when it's a) not a bad injury and b) something treatable. You can run!

Congrats on the weening, too. I know nothing about this -- will it help out your training in the long run?

Hey all!  How’s the training going?  Or recovery in your case Yanti!!

Leslie, Great news on your foot!  Look at how quickly you focus on age/size . . . and just ignore the comment in regards to the AMOUNT of running you do :P  I’m with Beth, it’s probably just your foot!  I’ve never had orthotics . . . hope they help!!

Beth, Awesome job last week training!!  Sounds like you are figuring out how to make your new schedule work!  YAY!

Erin, WOOHOO on hitting 60 miles of running in a month!!  I can’t believe your race is almost here already!!  How are you doing this week?  Getting excited?  I am!  Can’t wait to hear all about it!!

Yanti, How you feeling this week?  Hope you are recovering well!

Terri, I totally LOVED the excitement in your post after the HIM!  I can’t even imagine how motivating it must be to watch an event like that live!  Did you get signed up for your first race yet?

Shawn, How are you doing?  Do you have any upcoming races scheduled?  I’m pretty sure you did . . . how much longer until race day for you?

Ok, just had a few minutes and wanted to catchup with you all quick!

TTYL!

I'm back from my dissertation defense....I am now Dr. Laura!    I am so happy to be done and to be able to move on with my life!  The defense was pretty rough, but I survived and passed, and that's all that matters!

Dr. Laura! You survived! That is so awesome--seriously, I think the dissertation process and then defense is definitely comparable to training for and finishing an IM (not that I'd know what either of those are like, ha ha!). You are incredible.

Great news, Dr. Laura!! Congrats!  Now what?  (Don't you hate that question?)

Things are good here, my hormones are settling down a bit now so I am much less annoying to be around, at least that's what my 5-year-old told me today!  The sun is shining and tomorrow is supposed to be warm so I will actually get outside to bike.  Plus hubby may take a day off so I can have some workout time/ME time.  Ahhhh. It's all about me, really it is.  Ha. I am on an April challenge team, and I see a lot of you are, too.  I am going to try to hit all the goals my training plan has laid out for me.  I start week NINE tomorrow! Time is flying.    Here's a pic of me on my trainer the other day, just for fun.

YAYAY!!! Congratulations, Dr. Laura! That is a *ginormous* accomplishment -- I think Yanti's right, comparable to training for/finishing an IM (so I hear...). I hope you're celebrating properly!

GAH! JEALOUSY! Goooorgeous T.I.T.S. ... and I love what's between your legs too ... what I would give for a Cannondale. It's going to have to be layaway for me, I think. I just don't have the cash or credit up-front.

Yep, there's major Manatee REPRESENT in the challenge. We're all on different teams, too, I think.

Oh, the orthotics? GREAT, GREAT, GREAT. Seriously. Although of course podiatrists agree with me for obvious reasons, I actually think most people for whom running will be a considerable part of endurance athletics should get orthotics (if affordable). There is NOTHING like having a custom shoe bed in every pair you own. Rock on.

Just a quick check=in from me. I'll be back this afternoon or tonight to catch up.

I started my new job yesterday and so far so good.

My bike is almost built, and I'm fighting DH to not steal it. He's piecing out his Trek that he tri'd on last year to my Cannondale and then selling his frameset. I am hurrying him up! LOL

I have never seen as much bike bling in my life as I saw this past weekend. I just want to reach out and touch so many of them!

But the biggie new for me. I signed up for the SuperSprint Subaru for this fall. I was too chicken to sign up for the regular sprint, but I'm sooo excited to have made the commitment. It's really all Yanti's fault. I just wanted to be out there sooo bad this weekend and decided to "suck it up Buttercup" and register.

Will check in later.

Wow!  Congrats to you!  I have heard that the Subaru tris are really fun!  Great swag, too.  It makes raining so much easier when you know what you are training for.  And now that you'll have a rockin' bike, you will do so well!

I love the great chain of triathlon--people like Terri have the guts to start training, which inspires me to help in any way I can, and keep training and racing, and then she volunteers for a race which I do, which is an incredible experience and is so awesome to see her there, and then she's inspired by my race so she signs up for a tri ...

I LOVE THIS SPORT!!!

The word "chicken" and "race" are incongruous in the same post. You are already well into the difficult part, which is the training.

I am sooooooooooooooo excited for you!

Wow everyone is just doing awesome.

Yes I do have my first tri in 18 days and can't wait.

Although I haven't done a run in a week and a half and my legs are always tired. Biking and swimming and the endless stairs and ladders I deal with at work all day probably don't help either.

I am thinking of doing my second tri May 25 haven't decided yet but it is an option

Ha! This cracks me up, Shawn, because I can totally relate. You're tired and you haven't run in a week and a half and you're working hard all day and *still* you're excited about your race and planning the second one. For me, a week ago I was like, "Oh my God, I just want to be DONE with triathlon training, like RIGHT NOW," and I'm still looking forward to being done with this particular plan, but I'm also super excited for my race and figuring out which races I want to do next.

This sport makes us crazy!!
