Ok, I gave everyone numbers and told my wife to call out 4 numbers at a time to me.

If I accidentally left you off I apologize, I went back and think I got everyone that said they wanted to race.  We have one team randomly with 5 people and the rest with 4, but we are averaging out times so it all should work out.

Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4

So between Monday the 18th of May until Sunday May 31st Each person needs to do:
400yard swim (we will adjust for those that swim in meter pools)
12 mile ride
5k

Post your results for the day you do it and we will average out the times.

Remember this is for fun and trash talking makes challenges even more fun : )

If there is anyone I missed please let me know and I will put you on a team, or if I added you and you didn't want to do it let me know and I will take you off.

I have one thing to say, Team 4 RULES!!!

Oh, and Team 4, we need a name, shirts and a slogan!

SSMinnow - 2009-05-14 9:37 PM Stanley--way to go on taking the plunge.  I am sure you will do great!  Your wife sounds like a peach.

Tony--good luck on forming those teams.  Honestly, this is totally for fun so I don't care what the teams look like.  WHile it would be nice not to have all the HIM and IMs together, do what you can!

Barry--you aren't competitive at all, right?

Thanks for all of the great advice on the wetsuit purchase. Tracy--I like the Orca features.   In my OWS class today, a woman 5'4" and about 40lbs heavier was wearing the XS Helix. Kind of confused on the whole sizing thing.  I might see if there are any XXS out there.

PS. OWS class was A-Ok.  The water was only 50F and my feet were numb at the end of an hour, but the newbies swam around a few buoys and are starting to learn how to site. There were about 10IMs swimming around us which was a little unnerving.  I got my first shoulder kick and swam over someone so it was the perfect night!

Suzy if you can find a local dealer for the wetsuit that would probably be a good idea.

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to tell everyone to have a good and safe weekend.  Enjoy the training.  I am half way to Charlotte for the weekend for the NASCAR race.  No workouts for me and lots of bad-for-me food.  It should be a great weekend!!  Keep up the good work!

re: STRENGTH TRAINING

Hi all,

So I'm tracking training in the BT logs and using my garmin. Feeling pretty good except that I haven't incorporated any  strength training and I see there's a place to enter it in the logs. Just wondering how much time you experienced folks dedicate to strength training?  I am re-evaluating my training and am going to increase time of workouts so if I should be strength training, I'll add that into my new schedule.  I'm  following one of the BT training plans and it didn't mention anything about it, but it's the basic beginner plan.  Maybe I'm jumpng the gun on it.

Thanks
Shan

Hey Shan--my strength work is limited to mainly core work on the floor/stability ball and some exercises from my PT for adductors/hamstrings, but even that is only 20 minutes per session, 3-4 times a week.   I haven't lifted a weight or sat at a machine since I started S/B/R.

Barry--what a child.  Anydy's shirt is in the mail to YOU!

Who is doing what this weekend?  assuming the weather holds, I am doing a 50K charity bike event tomorrow in support of a local house for transplant patients.

Have a great time Suzy.  Anyone else racing or doing something cool this weekend?
We should do a Monday post of everyone that is racing that weekend.

Oh, and my 8 yr old son wants to be a triathlete so he can get those two cool shirts  -  although I think he is partial to the "Team Poo Poo Head" shirt.  Surprised

I'm racing this weekend!  A sprint w/ a 400m swim.  That is if the weather shapes up.

Shannon,  nothing besides SBR for me.  I'll suppose I'll incorporate core w/o down the road.

Oh and no need for a name for Team 1 other than maybe inserting a #, Team # 1

Good luck John.

I used to do strength training in my workout plan, but just found I didn't have the time to mix it in.  I do yoga every so often for stretching but haven't figured out how to find the time for a few more workouts.

so for the virtual tri are we supposed to do this as an actual tri all at one time or can we do each section separately?

Separately, figured it might be tough to try to do it all at once for some based on training schedules.

As far as strength training goes, I lift once a week, and work core exercises into my SBR routine as well.  I would like to lift 2x a week, if I could get to the gym.  I've heard coaches say that if you consider the  6 elements of training (swim, bike, run, nutrition, stretching, strenght training) the ST can be the one to drop off if you are pressed for time.  Personally, I really enjoy lifting and come from a lifing heavy sports background.

GO TEAM SHI!  That's four in Japanese.  Have a little culture today - it's good fiber Laughing  Tony, is there a Yahoo spread sheet we are using or do we post it in our logs or here?

Just post your result here, unless you think we really need the yahoo group spreadsheet.

Or you can just PM me if you want, I have a spreadsheet that I will update with everyones times.

It is our May long weekend up here. We are heading to my in-laws cabin, which is about  1 1/2 hrs from here. Weather is supposed to be great. I'm bringing the bike up, so I hope to get a my longest ride ever in , sometime tomorrow  afternoon. Then run a  bit with the wife. Relax, drink a beer or two.
Team Uno all the way.

Team 3 - we may not be fast, but we are good looking, two hot chics and Rash, I mean Rob.

I can't add much to the sock convo, but I do wear Under Armour all the time.  And Reebok underwear.  So my one comment to add to this convo is that High Performance underwear is worth every penny - even at $18/pair.

Stan, good luck in the NYC.  Glad to see you bite the bullet.

Trevor, this is "our May long weekend".  Is there a long weekend every month?

This weekend is a family wedding in Tennessee.  I'm taking the running gear to work off the beer and cake.

Had an awesome ride this morning.  My IM neighbor told me we'd be out about an hour.  He failed to mention the 4 tremendous (tremendous to me at least) hill climbs.  Without the hills we averaged about 17.5.  The hills dropped us to like 14.

For the race I had two bottles of Cytomax. Those were both on the frame.  The bottles in the back were my extra water I keep at T1 to rinse my feet (I decided to throw it on my bike at the last minute ) and my tire repair kit.  The bottle cages on the back of my seat are there mainly for in the summer when it is 100 degrees outside,  I carry extra water. Plus my tire repair kit is shaped like a water bottle so I use the extra cage to hold that.  Note I don't have a bag attached under my seat.  If my aero bottle would fit on the aero bars I would have taken the behind the seat cages off, but since it doesn't........  I would recommend the two bottles on the frame and the aero bottle up front.  Classic.

Suzy, I wear the xterra vortex fullsuit and I love it. My husband has the Xterra Vendetta sleeveless and also couldn't be happier with the suit. The Xterra website has 50% off deals every so often(usually end of Winter), which makes them pretty affordable for high quality suits. I have last years model the vortex2, but this is the info on this year's model the vortex3:

Vortex 3 Fullsuit

The Vortex3 is our most popular wetsuit, with a traditional design for athletes who want an all-around, all-purpose wetsuit to use while training and racing. Thanks to its new Hyper-Flex GKA Neoprene which makes it durable and buoyant, you’ll get a wetsuit like none other on the market. And with its specially developed X-tra Stretch Lining, which is used throughout the suit (not just in the arms where typically found), it has unparalleled flexibility in all four directions. The front chest to ankle panel is all 5mm, and the remainder of the wetsuit has varying thickness for flexibility where needed.

For many years, the Vortex2 was our most popular wetsuit. There isn’t a race in the world that you won’t see hordes of triathletes wearing the Vortex2. Our 2009 version – the Vortex3 – has improved the speed and flexibility of the Vortex line by using a new neoprene compound that also has a softer feel and is more flexible than any other entry-level wetsuit.  In fact, testing of the 2009 wetsuit by a number of elite swimmers resulted in further improvements and overall satisfaction by those that demand the best.
