Kathy, excellent advice for Cat.  Absolutely makes sense to set priorities and set plans accordingly.

Yup and I think its working...

I think my A Races next season will be:

November 22: Nepean Triathlon: 1k/30k/10k

March: Cronulla Olympic Triathling: 1.5K/40K/10K

With that in mind I will be working on runing 10Ks rather than a half mary...

Also CG wants to do Nepean and I would really like to do well! Not that I know how to train for Olympic distances but ....

As support races I will do :

May 10: Mothers Day Classic 4k or 8k run - at this stage Im thinking 4k as its quite soon and I have my ankle to think about

September 20: 10k Bridge Run (instead of the Half Mary)

September 28: Triathlon Pink: 300m/9k/3k - race simulation training day, no taper

November 1: Sydney to Gong 90k Ride - treat it as my long ride that weekend

February: All Womens Sprint Distance - traning race again: 500m/20K/5K

I also want to do at least one of the Kurnell Sprint Races.... Im thinking the one on either November 29th or January 17th might work - or both...

Does this sound reasonable?

Cat,

At first that looks good...then I noticed that you have a 10K followed a week later by the mini sprint.  Given your run concerns are you allowing enough time to recover between the 2 events?  I know neither is an "A" race but that may be something to think about in preventing injury.

We're back from Panama!

It was great to be in warm weather and get away from cold.

Here are some photos but will post some favorites here as well.

I was so excited to be able to do zip line tour in the jungle...it was wonderful.....

This is what it was like...

I loved that being fit and healthy allowed me to enjoy my fitness and do something cool...did I love it?

I'm glad to be home with our kids, able to workout as outlined in my training plan, getting my normal dose of endorphins,  and back to normal life.

Thanks Judi - I ummed and ahhed over it a bit...

The mini sprint has awesome medals (its the Pink race I did this season) and I did it off NO training last year so I would really like to do it just to see...

Worst case I figure I either pull out of the mini sprint or take it really easy... will definatley be having a taper/rest week between the races...

Good thing I dont mind about pulling out of races if I have to!

Also the other consideration is Im likely to have girls racing with me for both events... good thing that 10k is just a 10k now and not a hlaf marathon though!

Hey everyone,

Looks like a great holiday Kathy.

Sorry I have not been posting much.  Things are crazy.  We are having a great time, but I am absolutly floored by a) how much work it is and b) how I just love doing it all to the exclusion of everything else.

It is at the point that I don't even really want to go for a workout.  And, even if I did, I am not sure where I would find the time or the energy.  It is such a weird feeling, to not feel guilty about missing a run or a karate class.  I really don't know how you do it with kids or why you even want to do it seeing how cute and cuddly they are.   I am sure the feeling passes, I mean it must, but I am truly enjoying it now.

Anyways, thanks to everyone who has checked in on me.  I am sorry I havent had the time to keep track of what everyone else is up to.

Darren, from someone without kids, I find that really cool.  The guilt of missing training comes to us cause runner, biker, swimmer, triathlete is part of our identity and who we are... but being a Dad is such an amazing thing, even child-phobic me (I love em, just still baby-squeemish like I'm going to break em or accidentally teach the toddler a bad word!) can understand the shift of your world cause it's a real change about what's important and who you are - a family guy.  It may not always be this strong, or this critical, but being all about being a Dad right now is a great thing, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying every busy minute of it!

I'm sure it's ok if you don't check in all the time... but throw a picture every now and again so we can all go "Awwwwww!"

Hi all - I was just thinking of a yummy dinner that we haven't had in a while. Since it's pretty healthy, I'll post...

2 tilapia filets w/ some salt, pepper, old bay - saute w/ a smidge of olive oil till done. Remove from pan then add to pan 1 small container of pineapple wedges in the juice and about 2 Tbs. of capers. Swirl around till hot (about 3 mins) and place atop the fish.  A bit of rice and a salad on the side and you've got dinner.  A neighbor and I were talking about our dinner ruts and how we can't think of anything new to make and are sick of making the same things each night. Does anyone have any others they'd like to share?

I'll also attempt to attach a weight watchers recipe for turkey sloppy joes. It's supposed to be over rice but we enjoy it w/ tater tots instead. Happy Friday everyone.

Im procrastinating going to the gym but now I'll go, I guess.

I saw a soup recipe in a magazine this morning when I got my allergy shots.  Have to try it

Squash and white bean soup

1 T olive oil

1 onion, diced

14.5 oz can diced tomatoes

small butternut squash, peeled and cubed

1 T fresh thyme

salt/pepper

2 -15 oz cans cannellini beans rinsed and drained

1 bunch fresh spinach--remove thick stems

heat oil, sautee onion.  Add tomatoes w/ juice.  Cook 3 min

stir in squash, thyme, 5 cups water, 1 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper bring to a boli then simmer about 15 min.  Stir in beans and spinach, heat another 2 or 3 min.

serve w/ biscuits crusted w/ a light parmesan.

Hello all! Whats on tap for everybody on this very fine Sunday? I will be spending the better part of the day at a karate tournament with the kids.....which involves hours of waiting around until they compete. Luckily it is at the track............aquagirl may run whilst waiting!

I'll probably do my relaxing yoga sequence this evening...

I have a question for all of you. What kind of bike trainer do you have, and what do you like or dislike about it? Also, where's the best place to purchase one? For indoor riding, I just have my stationary bike, which I hate; actually it may be OK if I tried a different seat, but since I'm practically the only person on BT without a trainer, I figure it's about time!

What do y'all think?

I made the soup from that recipe.  A bit bland.  Try cooking it in chicken stock instead of water.  Sprinkled parmesan on top, helped and my husband and I liked it.  Kids...not so much....

I have a really basic trainer, magnetic.  It's okay but I wish we had looked into them more and gotten a nicer one.  What I dislike is that it has a screw on the bottom part of the  attachment to tighten up tension and that frequently comes loose mid workout so I don't have decent tension on the wheel.  I hear the fluid trainers are better, but don't have one.

My next winter training purchase will be rollers to mimic road conditions more.

I have a fluid trainer and it seems decent to me... I cant say I have used it all that much recently though!

My biggest complaint is that it is very tough on tires and seems to chew through the rubber making a bit of a mess... I beleive they are quieter than the other types of trainer but its still not whisper quiet or anything like that!

Trainer tyres are meant to be very useful and I would definatley look into that if I was going to be using it a lot.

Training wise i find it great for specific work sets such as intervals or TT simulations etc without having to worry about cars, traffic lights etc

Obviously if i could afford it... I would look at a computrainer!

I went with my husband and three daughters to multi use path...three of us rode, and two younger kids roller bladed.

It made my heart happy to do fun fitness stuff with the whole family. I didn't get my long run in but felt family time trumphed.

Kathy,

That sounds like a great family outing.  You can probably reschedule the long run for another day.  Sometimes doing things with the family is a whole lot more important (and better for family happiness) than getting in whatever workout we have planned.

I got my swim in--and the pool was CLEAN!! Took Miss Thing to the mall then got a very light spin in.

What is a "fluid trainer?" And are all trainers going to eat up my tires? How do you adjust for different tension...I mean, is that different for various trainers?

Yes trainers eat tires.  The good thing is cheaper the tire the longer it should last.  They make specific tires for trainers but they can't be used outside.  It's best if you can find an old wheel and cassete to use an old tire with and change out so you don't have to change the tire every time.  Check Tri talk about it.
