Back from the doc. No additional meds were given. I am to continue Nyquil and Dayquil and the admittedly completely unnecessary Z-Pak they prescribed earlier this week.

Do NOT quit the Z-pack early! Any bacteria which remain are the strongest. If you quit early, they'll propagate and make you sick as ever.

Never quit ANY antibiotic early, unless directed to do so.

Oooh I know. I will definitely finish it.
I just found it amusing that they readily admitted that they over-prescribe it and probably shouldn't have. But I won't pick up a bacterial infection over Christmas, bonus!!

What a day yesterday.  Mine was SO out of the ordinary from my typical hum drum routine.  It's weird how there are weird/benchmark days in your life when not only ONE event happens that on a given day would stand out, but how many things culminate into on moment/day.  I may have a LOT to think about this holiday break.

How was the TAN world?  Slow due to the holidays?

It Rome it was the free flowers, or the "I'll take your picture" scam (along with pushy peddlers with their just take one second to look scam)...

In Turkey it was every shop vender trying to pull you in their shop then pull out every piece of inventory if you just even the SLIGHEST interest in something (In the Grand Bazar with something like 6000 shops?  That's a lot of hustling).

Soon we learned several key techniques.

1. NO EYE CONTACT

2. KEEP FEET MOVING!  If you stop to look at anything for half a second?  It's like sharks with blood in the water.

3.  DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING!  Keep hand in pocket.

4.  Easiest yet?  Ignore them completely.  Pretend they are not there.  To ME, ignoring someone's existence is rude, but seriously, it's the only way to get out with your sanity.  You can't even have a private conversation without them butting in.  If you give them even a second of time out of courtesy, you have them for the next 5 minutes.

The friendship bracelet thing got us. And we kind of prided ourselves on not being street-hustled, so it was especially painful.

right!  We both said at the very beginning WE ARE NOT BUYING ANYTHING and said it over and over.  They completely ignored us.  When they got to the part when they started to tie it around our wrists we yanked our hands away.  THEN they got all huffy at us..  Fuggers.

The friendship bracelet thing got us. And we kind of prided ourselves on not being street-hustled, so it was especially painful.

All right... now we need the details! Help the rest of us not get scammed!

For a quick summary...

Girls will come up with a petition against drugs or some other powerful humanitarian thing and say they just want a signature.  You figure, why not and print your name, sign, say your country of origin, then the LAST item is how much  you want to contribute and they get huffy if you don't.  There dozens of them like ants scurrying around the landmarks hitting up only English speaking tourists.

The bracelet things was a bit more involved.  They have a loop with string hanging down and they ask you to put out your finger and they proceed to weave a friendship bracelet on the spot.  Only takes 30 seconds.  rub the blood back into your finger then try to tie it around your wrist and don't say no.  The ENTIRE TIME they were doing it I was saying, go ahead and do this, but I'm not buying it...  over and over and they still tried it.

In Rome, an indian guy will come up to your lady and try and give them a flower.  The wife said no, no, no.  And they will say it's just for luck and they don't want any money.  They will insist over and over that this time they REALLY mean it and don't want money and convince you.  (meanwhile they talk about how kind and generous I look...).  When you FINALLY take the flower, they suddenly want a "donation".  Not a purchase.  We even gave them 1 Euro to get rid of him and know what he said?  IT WAS NOT ENOUGH...  Whisky Tango Foxtrot!   They would try over and over again and each would say I'm not like the other guys, I don't want money.

The Ring scam is when someone will fake "find" a ring and try to act like they thought you dropped it and give it back to you.  I guess the idea is to think that you will like it and then give them a reward?  If you say it's not yours, they will try to give it to you anyway and say finding something lost is good luck and again, want a reward.

After a while you just ignore them or shoo them away like flies.  It's all you can do.

ETA:  Don't be shocked if you get suckered at least once.  I knew it was coming and it's STILL got suckered.  I never paid anyone (except the flower guy) and refused at the last second.  They are kind of convincing.  It's just not human nature to not take a "gift" or take something handed to you - that's who they hand out the naked lady cards on the Las Vegas Strip and people just keep grabbing them.  People try to listen to people trying to talk to you and they use that to box you into a corner and the only way out is to be rude, which is uncomfortable for many people.  They use that psychology against you!

Yesterday was the lunch with the ex boss day, no ?

That happens today or Monday.  It was interesting that my ex boss called me 2-3 times, and when I didn't get back right away, the owner of the company ALSO called me wanting to talk.  Must be important!

On the same token, I saved the day (again, the sky was falling) on my current job and after being away for a couple weeks MY company realizes how important I was.  Got a decent bonus, and spend the day with the boss handing out $200 bottles of scotch and steak dinners to important clients.  He wanted ME to go with him.  Then tied one on with the boss and some other key players last night...

We had a company lunch and got the state of the company which gave me food for thought...

Just tons of stuff that could result in a life change...  Again, crazy it was all on one day.

Post 3 in a row and 5 out of 6...

Body clock is still wacked.  Beat down tired at 8 or 9 and up with the sun at 5 or 6  (actually before the sun).  Been to work at 7am every day.  LOVE IT.  No traffic, office is quiet for an hour or so...  Plus I have still been staying to 4:30 or 5:00, so technically can leave at 1pm today if I so wished...

At least you can still have healthy food in Spain. With all the refined sugars were eating, Americans are experiencing a virtual epidemic of juvenile diabetes.

For sure. There are benefits to living here. Food is one. Weather is definately another. The women while attractive tend to be high maintenance but are ok at a safe distance. The wine is excellent and its pretty reasonably priced. The best though are the labor laws. To get fired here comes with a payout of 45 days pay for every year with the institution.... Disadvantages we can cover next week.

No white Christmas for me in Philly...

...but, there's snow in the mountains surrounding Tucson, so I get to look at how pretty it is, while it's in the 50s and rainy in town.

Good information.  I was lucky to not get scammed in France.

In Mexico, we were informed to watch for a certain cab/vehicle that would take us back to our hotel once we returned from our 1/2 day fishing trip.  Yep, I was suckered by a fast-talker to take a cab that wasn't ours (because ours wasn't there or I didn't see it).  Luckily, we were driven back to the right place and weren't charged more than the "normal" price.

As a side note, I sometimes wonder why Americans are called impolite.  Well, here are some of those reasons.

I thought about that as well.  Honestly, I see Americans and Canadians being OVERLY nice.  But when you get hassled and bothered and picked on constantly, you get stand offish.

We were trying to enjoy a nice romantic dinner and wine at a table in the piazza right next to the Pantheon.  You know, candle light, chianti, pasta, historical site, music.  And peddler after peddle would stop at the table and try to sell us stuff and would only go away after saying "no" a half dozen times.  The staff would try to shoo them away, but as soon as the staff went inside, they would rush back to try and sell us garbage made in China.

It's hard to keep that romantic moment going through all of that...  Oh well.  Everyone has to make a living/hustle, I suppose.
