Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success So I started my Christmas shopping (for myself) over the weekend. I visited Fraser Bike Shop here locally. I haven't decided to put the $$$ down for a full bike fit (they use the Retul Dynamic Fit System). Come spring I plan on buying my first Tri-Bike. The fitter and I agree that I will be a size 54cm frame or medium. He is sellling me on the fine tune adjustments that can be made with regard to aero bars, seat height, cranks, stem length etc. I'm open to thoughts from the peanut gallery (which by the way is the best d&mn peanut gallery on BT.com). Other things I'm looking at are an aero helmet, new bike computer (I'm tired of my small 910xt screen), hydration system and newer shoes. Basically picking out gifts for myself from my entire family. Again - love to have your feedback. |

Again - love to have your feedback. I don't have any advise to share since I'm sort of in the same boat as you so, I will be watching to see what you come up with. I recently started researching Tri bikes myself, trying to come up with a budget that will get what I think I need. The biggest problem I have is my budget, Tri bikes are expensive!! It was a stretch for me to throw down $700.00 for a road bike and now looking at Tri bikes I get some SERIOUS heartburn when looking at the prices. I do like the idea of going to the local fit guru and get his advise on bike options as you did and I think I might do that this weekend. I would like to have a Tri bike for my first Oly in May but it is not completely necessary. However, I'm secretly training for a HIM in November next year(it's a secret so lets keep that between us) and in my mind I think its completely necessary for that type of distance. So I guess what I'm saying is I will be watching you to see what you come up with, keep us posted! |

I really like the speed play pedals for my bike. They offer a little more lateral movement than the other pedals and they are easier to clip in and out of. I have about 5000 miles on mine. I also have the Louis Garneau triathlon shoes for my bike. They have an single Velcro strap and are made to be sockless. |

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success So...I did something a bit crazy that I hope works out okay. Trisports.com had a doorbuster cyber monday deal last night on a Quintana Roo CD0.1 for 52% off. It is the upgraded race version (Reynolds Strike Wheelset). I did as much research as I could to make sure I ordered the most appropriate size and I'm trying to discuss that choice with the folks ar trisports before it ships. Anyway, this goes against everything I said I would do when I bought my first tri bike but the deal was just too good for me to pass up. Risk / reward equation was acceptable to me. Worst thing that happens is I have to part it out or sell it on eBay. Wish me luck! For those interested, I think the doorbuster deal was still active. You have to click through on Facebook to see it on their page. They only had two sizes: M and ML. edit: I spoke with the bike shop. We discussed my body dimensions and agreed that M would be the right size. ML would have too much reach. It helped that the bike tech was same dimensions as me. Still no guarantee but I feel better directionally. I added a pic of the bike. My first dose of bike p@rn. Expert 1109 Guatemala | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Mitch, congrats on getting your new tri bike and we want to see some pics when you get it! In terms of recommendations, for the bike computer I use the Garmin Edge 500 which has a larger screen than that 910XT and can be found at a good deal right now for $150 on Amazon or Clever Training (if you need larger, go for the Edge 800). For shoes, like Jim, I also use Garneau tri shoes (tri-x speed) and the Shimano's SH-T31, both pretty comfortable (w and w/o socks). For aero helmet (I only use it for HIM or Full IM) the Rudy Project Wingspan works great. Dennis, I agree with Jim, I would look for a used Tri bike on Craigslist or Ebay. That is how I got mine (a Cerverlo P2 2012) and had it shipped down to Guatemala, and still cheaper than anything I could hope for down here. Also LOL about your secret HIM and don't worry, your secret is safe here! I'm actually on the same boat, submitted my application yesterday for the epic 2016 Marathon Des Sables, supposedly one of the toughest running races there is. If I get in, then this will require the ultimate negotiating skills with my wife (you even have to sign a form as to where you want your remains repatriated in case you don't make it :-) Adding 6 mile run yesterday (cut short again due to knee pain) Jim 2 01/37/12

Ernesto was never a fan of them, but I don't know why. Gabe, when are you going to get the knee problem fixed??? Dennis, there is also a FB site called Online Swap Meet that I will try to remember to send you the link for. Stuff goes fast there. |
