hrliles - 2010-08-19 11:09 AM We are flying out of Atlanta Friday at 12, arriving 2 PM.  As I mentioned before this is a monumental flight for us.  This will be the first time my wife has gotten on a plane since 9/11 (really 9/14).  She was a International FA for United and was in Amsterdam that Tuesday when at the same time her sister Sandy was on Flight 93 that crashed in Pensyvalania.  She was devestated and could not get back to the US till that Friday.  I picked her up at Dulles, she quit United and she has not flown since, much less even discuss it.  I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of her.  I bought her a necklace as a symbolic gesture of her and our acheivement. I plan to give her on the plane trip there.

She is doing this for me so I don't have to drive us 13 hours there then do an IM.  So when it gets tough out there I will call on what monumental effort she made to make the trip easier for me.  Unless I get pulled off the course by not less than 10 men, I will run, scratch, crawl, and fight my way to Fourth Street by Midnight! 140.6, add a couple more and make it interesting.  SEMPER FI

Be safe, be smart, see you BT'ers there!

wow!  this is some story.  impressive for the both of you.  it sounds like you are really lucky to have each other!

We're leaving TX on Tuesday morning, driving to Memphis on day 1.  Driving to Lou on Wednesday, expect to get in around 3-4 PM.  Wife is flying in from Boston on Thursday AM; she's leaving on Sunday to go up for work.  I am making the roadie with the kids, which is why I'm not going straight through.

anyone have suggestions for run chafing? I can't wear tri shorts to run...got some terrible issues from two different chamois. Regular spandex is usually my go-to, but even that was killing me on the 2 hours plus category. Aside from body glide...what do you do? Just run and deal with the pain after?

Anyone planning on wearing bathing suits and changing? my favorite bike shorts are my Desoto 400 mile shorts, which I can't swim in. Boo.

I guess I just wanna see what everyone is wearing.

For Chafing - Body glide all the way, it will prevent it.

As for clothes, i where the same shorts through out. Will change my bike jersey to tri top between bike and run. That is about it.

I have found that good old vaseline lasts longer than bodyglide.  My wife like aquaphor(sp) too.  btw, don't go into planning on running through the chaffing.  You can, but the pain.  Oh, the pain.  I've almost cried in the shower.  Use the best stuff you can find and reapply it at the half way point if you need to.

For Chafing - body glide didn't work the greatest for me at longer distances and especially in hotter temps.  Someone gave me some of the Mission anit-chafe and that seemed to work better for me, so I have been using it for the last 4-5 months with no issues at all.  Dick's carries it as well as other places.

For clothing - swim shorts and DeSoto top, 400-mile bike shorts and Forza top, run shorts and xbionics tops.  Timed myself in races and at home and it adds about 60 - 75 seconds to each transition to do the changes.  I'll gladly give that up for comfort.

I've always had good success w/vaseline.  I'll use chamois butter for the ride but roll w/ the jelly for the run.

good stuff! The body glide did not work for me (my main issue was with sports bras and running over 2 hours). Funny, I've never had any issues with halfs, but after my two longest runs, oooh. Aquaphor was a friend!

Just tried them on my road and tri bike and they fit, but not real snug, kind of flimsy. They are 20oz.

Glad it worked out for you!  I know it's gotten me to many starting lines in the past!  Hope to see you at the race!  Or the meet up that is scheduled (?) for Friday.  Can someone confirm a location/time?  I know it's a few pages back but I'm a little lazy at the moment.

Only live 1 1/2 hours away, so going down Friday to "check in" and do EXPO, then have lunch and come home.  Going back down Saturday morning with family to check in bike and bags and get into hotel.  Nice to live kinda close to the race.

Do you have rear bottle cages at all?  You say they are flimsier, but do they seem prone to ejection?

There isn't a scheduled time nor location.  Just a general idea that some people want to meet up on Friday, but no one has made anything official   Maybe we should switch it and meet at the practice swim saturday morning.  I'm not going to step up to take charge of this meet up until I'm actually in KY, but if someone else wants to declare something I will go along with it.

Like everyone else, I have been watching the weather forecasts (almost) obsessively and it appears that the heat may actually start to be breaking. It does not look like it will be as cool as last year, but the temps are forecasted to be in the upper 80's. Granted, it would be nicer in the lower 80's, but given how hot it has been, upper 80's will be welcome.

Stay injury free, we're down to just over a week.
