Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod I hit a new PR on my swim! Too bad it wasn't a race, but it was still 1000m--in 24:00---at the last race, it took me 32 minutes to do 1000m--and last year, my best 1000 was at 28 minutes...so definite improvement in my eyes! Also, I felt more relaxed on this swim than I ever have before--not like I was just sitting back and chillin' but The swim made me feel like all was right with the world--a true 'no worries' moment. Work's been so crazy this week, that I needed one of those! Maybe it just helped that the weather here today was 105 degrees! |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Another race and more learned . Had a good race. Lack of warmup made for difficulty breathing on the swim, but I recognized what I was doing and talked myself through it. Definite better at swimming straight this time than last! Had a couple goals for the bike on this race, and met them for the most part. Unfortunately the swim and the run were both shorter than advertised, so that was a bit disappointing. I need to get in some OWS practice. I know of a couple locations, so just need to get out there. Hope y'all are having a great weekend! |

Great job!! I did my 1st 1.5 hour hot yoga session today (bought a groupon of $35/2 months unlimited of Bikram yoga). I melted but loved it!! Its good to know there is someone else crazy enough to do yoga in a 105 degree sauna! Crazies stick together! Wow! That's an awesome deal for two months of yoga! I paid $99 for a mat, the workshop, and a month unlimited. I definitely agree on the melting but enjoying it! I've never drank so much water! |

Great race! And great job of being able to get yourself back into the race mentally that ability to know what you need to do when and actually do it is a great one to have. |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Well I got my run/bike done yesterday as scheduled. Today was another matter. Could NOT motivate myself to get up and run 6 miles this morning. Decided to sleep in instead. I get to spend Father's Day with my Dad! Pretty cool. He's in town for a few days so I'm taking him and the DH out for dinner tonight. Happy Father's Day to the Mana-Dads. |

I'm aiming to increase my speed, of course, but I think feeling relaxed, calm, and confident is a big improvement, and I would take that over speed right now. It's supposed to be 100 here tomorrow. Yikes. Welcome to summer. |

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod We're back from our shake down trip. All I can say is wow. The RV did wonderfully -- everything worked, and I felt more confident in it this trip than I ever have (we bought it used, so it has never been new for us). We had storms, of course. I swear. No tornado watch or warning but we did have a "Significant Weather Advisory" with the threat of 50 mph winds. When we got home, sure enough, a huge limb had fallen out of the tree, within inches of my husbands car, but it missed it completely. We'll keep working on the RV this week (hubby started replacing lights when we got home today, and we still don't have the water tank hooked up -- its leaking was a primary culprit of the water damage that we had, so we may end up replacing it completely -- then there's the carpet I want to tear up and new floor to be put down . . .) but it was nice to know that it is road/camp worthy. We'll take it to my tri this coming weekend. My run yesterday was so inspiring. I headed out of the campground and ran 1/2 a mile west and then 1/2 a mile north -- on such a muddy road (storms the night before) that I had to keep scrapping my shoes on the ground to try to knock the mud off -- they got so heavy. I stopped for a minute at a bridge with some concrete on it to scrape the last of the mud off, and then looked east -- truck stop a mile away. No. Looked west and saw . . . hills!!! I couldn't believe it. My heart jumped with joy. I took off west, trying to calculate how far away the hills were, and just started climbing. I ran most of the 3 miles -- with just a couple walk breaks of a minute or so each on some very steep portions. I was going to stop at what I thought was the highest hill -- that I could see -- and when I got to the top of that, there was another hill, so I ran up to that one, and there were a couple more -- but I had already been gone 50 minutes, and I was going to be late back as it was. So I reluctantly turned around and headed back. I was short on water because I had gone farther than I had planned and the day was really warming up. I passed a Buddhist Temple (In the middle of central Kansas farm land), and thought about stopping there to get more water, but I decided I could make it. And I did. I got back to camp, told the little boy to get his swimming trunks on, grabbed a Gatorade and some cheese/crackers and headed with him to the pool. I soaked my legs in the cool salt water for about 20 minutes. No soreness. Ever. I still can't believe it. What fun. Hills!!! I still can't get over it. |

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod There was a weird thing about my hill run. I talked to my hubby about it, but I wanted to get your take on it too. I had to run under a highway overpass. It kind of freaked me out. As I was running up to it, I had to do a lot of talking to myself, "This is ridiculous. It's just a bridge; run under it; no big deal." But I had this horrible feeling of anxiety, almost dread, having to run under that stupid overpass. There was no fear that homeless people were living under it -- this was the middle of nowhere Kansas -- just farmland, farmers, a rural delivery mail carrier, and a Buddhist temple -- there was nothing to be afraid of, but I really didn't want to run under that bridge. I had typed a long explanation of my husband's theory, but I've just decided to abbreviate it to one word: TROLLS. I told him, "You're kidding." He said it was racial memory. Like our fear of snakes in western culture, we fear the hiding places of trolls (Three Billy Goats Gruff, for example). Certainly, bridges are also liminal places; when you are under a bridge, where are you, exactly? It was weird. Edited by KansasMom 2012-06-18 12:15 AM |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod Felicia, it's awesome that the trailer came together so well! I have some great memories of our camping days when our boys were kids. As for the bridge, my thoughts are usually along the lines of delinquent "kids", trouble-makers, and as women we have to be thoughtful of the possibility of rape. I don't know that the "troll" possibility ever occured to me. It'll probably make me chuckle next time I encounter a bridge though... Edited by rrrunner 2012-06-18 9:44 AM |

It's not the original TT monster I nearly bought, it's a road bike a 5.2 and I got me some aero bars to sexy it up a bit. I think he's beautiful, just need to find a name for my new trusty steed. I shall miss my Giant but DH will take that one now as his own.
Congratulations on the addition to your stable! |

I can think of several bridges/underpasses I have gone under in the past few weeks, and I never consciously worried about trolls. If I think about it, I probably usually do have some apprehension about going under them, but it is usually about dope smoking teenagers and bad guys. But maybe that is because there is usually at least one of the former there. To be honest, I think I prefer trolls. |

I saw my ortho doc in January for wrist pain. He gave me a cortisone shot and told me to come back if it was still a problem. It is. I most likely tore my TFCC - cartilage on the outside of the wrist - and probably need surgery. I have an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon. I know I shouldn't get ahead of myself, but it's hard not to. Riding last week really hurt my wrist, so I need to do something about this. It's interfering with my ability to work, too. I feel like it's one step forward then two steps back. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod I had a pretty crazy weekend! I worked a triathlon Saturday. It was the youth an junior elite cup (there was also a few AG races) These kids were amazing to watch! Refined talent with no fear. Of course, with it came all the crazy overbearing parents hahaha. Saturday I got to see Dr. Jack Horner, Dr. Leroy Hood, and Dr. Stephen Hawking speak. I feel like I am still recovering. It certainly gave me a lot to think about during my 20-miler on Sunday! |
