Extreme Veteran 668 NW Georgia | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed jfought - 2013-04-03 9:30 AM It's that time of the week again.....Who's got plans to race this weekend? Let us in on your goals and your strategies? Birdy's "getting faster on the bike question" made me think that strength training could improve biking power. Are you doing any specific strength workouts? If so, what are you doing, and how do you hope it will improve your swim/bike/run game? David, any typo's this week? You're looking good this week, Jayne! (I didn't notice any typos either.) No racing for me. I did use today's rain as a good time to get my fit on the bike adjusted; MUCH better! I also signed up for some swim lessons today. Go me! I really wanted to join a masters group, but the only one I can find within a reasonable driving distance is 8:30am-10. Not exactly conducive to my keeping a job. I am not doing any specific strength work, although I keep meaning to add some. My 30-week IM program begins Monday ... with a rest day. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! |

What big workouts are in store this weekend? Just got in from my last long run, managed 30km this morning. 3 x 10km loops on my own and without an iPod, thought it would be a good rehearsal for my race. Last lap felt good and my legs feel quite fresh. I've got a question for the group: is it too late to get a bike fit??? Since buying my bike I've added clip on aerobars and a new Cobb saddle and I feel like my weight is a bit too far forward and not enough over the rear wheel. Any thoughts? |

Any stiffness, injury, or something else? If it ain't broke I wouldn't fix it.... But I can talk out of both sides of my arse.... I understand your body, strengths, flexibility change as we get in better shape, so it's a good idea, however you are,a month (I think) away from your big race? A new bike fit does require a good "break in" period. ashort33 - 2013-04-06 7:37 AM Wow, when did this become the "quiet" group???

Are you three weeks out from IM? If so, I wouldn't change a thing unless to Birdy's point you are having pain or issues running off the bike. IMO, it's awfully late in the game to do anything like that. |

I agree with the feedback from Birdy and Suzy - kinda late to be making changes. Are you having any problems on the downhills? i.e., speed wobble or slower than pre-aerobar? I'm currently working with ttbikefit.com on my fit. I took some new video a few hours ago based on his recommendations that I can share if you are interested (still need to look at it and edit). He told me to jam my Cobb saddle as far forward on the rails as it would go and to increase my seat height. I am still on my Bianchi so I guess you will be able to relate to the positioning. |

Expert 1038 Noosa | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Thanks for the bike fit advice, yes I sort of knew its too late but I think I'll get a new fit if I can still face looking at my bike after the IM. I had a very disappointing ride today, started with rain and high winds with debris all over the roads leading to slow speeds then 3 flats resulting in me having to call to be picked up 40 mins short of my planned 6 hours. The last 2 hours I was battling with a leaking tyre and had to keep pumping it back up before it finally blew! Anyway, I've done 4 rides over 5 hours but not managed to do my near race distance ride. Next weeks a recovery week and my legs feel like they need it but the way today's ride fizzled out left me feeling very frustrated. |

Think of it as building more mental toughness and call upon when you feel like garbage during IM. I had a similar ride last year-heavy rain, wind and cold for the middle of Summer. I hated every minute of it, but in the long run I know it built a little more MOJO. 40' is nothing in the grand scheme of how much you have ridden this Summer. Buck up. You're ready! |

Master 1497 Maryland | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed I want to update you because I know my daughter has been in your thoughts and prayers and that is a powerful and good thing. She went in for a strep test last Thursday. Was sent for an ultrasound after the Nurse felt a mass. We were referred to an Oncologist in Baltimore for a Tu. appointment. He admitted her and operated on her the next day. She had a malignant Ovarian tumor removed, watermelon size, about 5 pounds. We await the pathology report which should come in the end of next week and follow up on April 30th. So she is home now, we are trying to manage pain, worry over school, future, and her thoughts of cancer returning. But her prognosis with the Oncologist is good so far. I go back to work tomorrow and I don't want to. Everything in me says I need to stay with her, but I also have to keep my darn job. One day at a time and I know we are truly blessed. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR KINDNESS!! |

Veteran 287 Tucson | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Hi, all. It's been a while since I have been around. Got a little nudge this evening to stop in. Linda, I am very sorry to hear about what your daughter is going through. I will keep her and your family in my prayers. I needed a bit of a break from BT. I felt I was doing nothing but reading BT and everything I could get my hands on trying to figure out what to do about my injuries. Finally just gave it to the Lord and said triathlon will still be there when the Lord heals me. I will do my part with PT and doc appointments but trying not to drive myself crazy. DH and I got new bikes a week ago! We got matching Cannondale CAAD 10's. We are enjoying them. Well, accept today. lol My chain jumped when I was trying to shift. Fixed that and then promptly got a flat. I was close to home as I have to keep my rides short so I just walked the bike back home. Next week I am going for an in depth running form analysis. Should be good. I hear great stuff about the guy who I am going to see. He also does retul bike fits so I will set up an appointment for that. I am done with PT but my knee isn't 100% yet. It's much better though. Also been having trouble with my hip and back for quite a while. Mild but won't go away. I have a chiro appointment for that but have to wait a few weeks as they were really booked up. I will have to read up on all that I missed here! Have a good night! |
