mehaner - 2013-01-14 2:15 PMmy nephew is finally going to be born tomorrow!  YAY!  can't wait to go meet him this weekend!
. Awesome! The couple next to me in church had a little behbeh. I didn't want to sound strange by asking if I could hold him. But it's such a neat feeling to hold a baby when they're oh say 3 months or less. Then they get heavy...

My monsters are getting so heavy. I have to carry my daughter on my shoulders because she weighs 40lbs. That's a sack of potatoes!!!

Babies Scare me. I feel like I might drop them on their head or something like I am so klutzy with everything else I shouldn't be allowed to hold one.

Yep, this is me too.  I went and saw a friend's newborn on day 2 and she handed the thing over to me in a misguided thought of "maybe if she holds one, she'll want to have one!"... I almost dropped the poor little guy and he was then unceremoniously taken out of my hands.  I'm sure everyone was just as relieved as I was!

See My good buddy just had a baby boy right before Christmas. His daughter from Previous marriage is 13.  Span of 13 years I have never held either kid.

He knew enough to not hand the child to me.  His other half said " Oh let him hold it, maybe if he finds a new woman he will want a baby with her."  He chuckled and said you don't know him that well do you.

I watched her friend re-wrap the kid like a taco under a heat lamp. It scared me she man handled him so much.   FRAGILE

Thankfully no one else has tried the same thing since.  I don't think I ever held my niece or nephew until they were much older.  My brother and SIL knew better.

I miss the days of holding my boys when they were little like that, especially when they were alseep, was a very calming  feeling to me

That got Jerry Sandusky arrested, ya know?

And FYI - I'm pretty sure Natalie Portman is on BOTH of our 'lists'

As she should be!

My list has recent entries of Olivia Wilde and Leslie Mann

Is it bad that I don't even know who these two women are?

I'm with you Tech. I've heard the names.

You know their face just not the names

No I really don't know who they are other than that they're famous for something.

Olivia Wilde - the woman in Cowboys vs Aliens, Year One, The Next Three Days, TRON

Leslie Mann - 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, This is 40, etc...

Jessica Biel and Gwyneth Paltrow need to be on any list, too, IMO.

Gwyneth Paltrow gets on my nerves. She is the same character in every movie.

Most actors/actresses are.  Actually, almost ALL of them are.

All of them are ... what? The same character?

Most actors play variations of the same character over and over... or they only have one acting style.

Tom Hanks is probably one of the very, very few that isn't like that.

Tom Cruise?  Same character in every movie.  His characters differ very little from Top Gun to Mission Impossible.... it's just his style.

<insert action hero name here> - same in every movie.

Morgan Freeman - widely regarded as one of the best actors of our time... same in every movie.

Heck, even Alec Guiness wasn't very different in Bridge on the River Kwai vs. playing Obi Wan.

I have no problem holding babies.  I'm sure I will hold mine all the time with not a single nervous moment.  I just don't WANT to hold someone else'  baby.  What's in it for me other than the chore of holding onto something I don't want to?  Like the wife's purse at the mall or someone's beer when they are about to do something stupid.

I love my kids, but I DON'T miss the infant stage. I pass up "want to hold the sweet baby?" offers 9/10 times. Just not in my genes.

I am terrible with children. When people hand me a baby I get all weirded out and awkward.

There is a very good reason why we're not parents.  We just shouldn't be!

It's all this sort of stuff why I was perfectly Ok with things when I was told I wouldn't be allowed to babysit my nephews/nieces until they were old enough to dial 9-1-1.

And to this day, I haven't had to babysit, yet

And FYI - I'm pretty sure Natalie Portman is on BOTH of our 'lists'

As she should be!

My list has recent entries of Olivia Wilde and Leslie Mann

Is it bad that I don't even know who these two women are?

I'm with you Tech. I've heard the names.

Tom Cruise can be diverse. Look at him in Tropic Thunder! Hilarious!

LOL...they were even less interesting when they were asleep.  Beautiful, peaceful, quiet...but not interesting. I couldn't just sit and hold them indefinitely. I love the toddler and up (to 5 so far) ages. Talking and moving and becoming a little person. FUN!
