I live under a rock so I just now saw it...freakin sweet. Man, if she didn't fall, can you imagine how MUCH more she could have been ahead with the same kick and how much faster her time would have been? Unreal! I was thinking the same thing. HOWEVER, she could have been in a different mindset - not sheer desperation.... She probably would have kicked it just enough to win by 5 yards, and her time may have not been much better... Just the fact she stayed in it mentally. Most would say it's over and DNF or walk it in. I gots mad respect.... And you KNOW her coach is going to be giving her hell now too. Saying "How come you can't run like that ALL the time?" fo sho.... My coach would have.... This makes me cranky. I think too many coaches coach from this perspective. That the kid is not doing their best or is lazy. That's sort of implied in that statement. Why wouldn't a coach just be happy for the kid, and say something along the lines of "NOW you have an idea what's in there...that's awesome" you know? Sometimes (LOTS of times) people just don't KNOW what's in them...til it randomly comes out and THEN they know...you know? I completely agree..... But my coach was "old school". Also thought that drinking was "bad" and led to cramps... Midevil.... HA! My old football coaches were like that. 3-a-days were brutal in OKC summers. Now, if this coach was any kind of coach, he would first compliment her on not giving up, on sticking through it and doing so well. THEN he would say, "See, I knew you could go faster. You just proved you had another gear in there somewhere. Let's see what we can do about trying to get you to hit it more often WITHOUT you falling down." That is what a good coach would do. |
