Where is a good place to live that is warm all year but has no natural disasters? California has earthquakes, Florida has hurricanes, so those places are out. You're done with the weather? It was -25F WC when I got up.....all I have on tap today is a shrivel swim so barely have to be outside at all today. If I got to pick the perfect weather place it would be the Big Island of Hawaii....good bike, swimming, running and hiking in Volcano National Park. Can't beat it. It was so cold here that when I showered after my swim I thought I had turned into a woman. About the same temp as you Suzy. |

I think I have bike issues that I am too dumb to even identify. Next stop: LBS. Sounds like a story in there somewhere... let it out... tell your MG... I couldn't let go of the doorframe because I was sure I was going to get seriously hurt. It didn't feel like normal pedalling, but I think the problem is actually with my bike and not the rollers. I assumed riding on rollers would feel just like riding on pavement, although with the need to keep a very straight line. As a result, I now believe there is something wrong with my chain. I tried to take it to the LBS today, but they were closed. I guess this story will be continued next week... |

Where is a good place to live that is warm all year but has no natural disasters? California has earthquakes, Florida has hurricanes, so those places are out. Really? California's earthquakes happen like once every gazillion years compared to all of those tornadoes/hurricanes in the midwest/south east... I think San Diego would be the best, it's never too super hot in the summer and you can pretty much get out all year 'round. San Francisco is not too shabby! I did my 12 mile run this morning in 52F, short sleeves and shorts. Sorry, Trevor. ![]() But hurricanes don't just strike out of nowhere, you know when and where they're going to land. The next earthquake could come at any time and rip a giant hole in the middle of the interstate. I don't know if I would choose to live in California either. Even if you aren't bothered by the earthquake issue, there are the budget problems. Although, it is -11 celcius here right now and running in a tank and shorts sounds pretty good!! I did 7 miles on the treadmill today because I didn't want to take my face out to the bitter wind. I guess there are pros and cons to everything! |

Jenna, I totally agree with you on the "budget problems" point. Things here are so incredibly expensive, I don't think I would actually "choose" to live here if I didn't grow up here and have all of my family right here! A giant hole in the middle of the interstate would be pretty petrifying now that you mention it! Good for you on getting on that treadmill, it's better to be safe and get in a good workout, than sliding around out on the icy roads or worse! AND, you could probably do it in a tank and shorts! ![]() |

I had a tempo trainer ride today, the 30mph winds and single digit wind chill kept me inside. Sitting here now working on my 2010 calendar. So far: Lonestar HIM 4/25 Columbia Oly 5/23 Blackfly TT/Sprint/Oly 7/10 - 7/11 Disney Marathon 5k/half/mary 1/11 Want to find something local before lonestar but not sure that is going to happen. Also need a couple sprints in June, and need to figure out the late season race, Augusta sounds good but for some strange reason so does the NC TTT. Including Disney on there because training will start late in 2010. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am really excited to hear and see reports for Lonestar HIM this year. It is on my "wish" list for 2011 as a destination race. My sometime training partner has relatives in Houston and we talked today about maybe slating that as something we wanted to do. What is the deal with sign ups? Is it one of those that sells out in a short time? Only reason for asking is that since I am doing Augusta in September and I am still looking to buy a trainer in the spring "clearance" time frame I am not sure I can commit that kind of $$$ until maybe September for that race......is that doable...to sign up late this year for an April 2011 race? Thanks for any input. Steve |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I used to live in S.F. great climate in the S.F. Bay area, I lived in S.D. too but just for 9 months, was in S.F. for 14 years. Miss it. When you live in CA you don't really worry about earthquakes too much if they happen they just do and if you are still standing all is well. Now I'm in N.Y. Brrrrrr cold and windy today. Too darn cold. In March I'm going to Tucson, AZ in hopes of eventually moving there. kt65 - 2010-01-02 3:05 PM dalessit - 2010-01-02 6:12 AM Ok, I am really done with this crappy cold weather, high of 20 here today and 35mph winds... Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy New Year everyone! With all the holiday travel I haven't posted much lately but have been keeping up when I am able. Just got caught up today with the last 7 or so pages! I have had a good week or so traveling and visiting relatives on both sides of the family. Looking forward to getting everyone back to a routine on Monday!! Skiing today an tomorrow make up my training for the weekend. My brother is visiting from Hawaii for the holidays and it is funny to see him react to the cold! It was about 12 deg today and 0 with the wind chill. He had about 7 layers on for skiing to my 2 layers. I guess it is all about what you are used to! Here are my totals for 2009:
Pretty happy with that as my first full year. No comparison to 2008 since I just started tracking my training in December 2008. Never expected to swim that much...or to enjoy swimming that much! Goals for 2010 - Continue to have fun and enjoy triathlon! - Help my wife through her first tri in June - Improve on my OLY time at the Cayuga Lake Tri - Improve bike - Some possible goals...first marathon??? first HIM??? Looks like a lot of you have gotten off to a great start to the new year! I will get my new trainer put together this week and start working on improving that bike. |

Both Jeremy and I are planning to do it and it's still open. Door County is the same weekend and also amazingly popular with a good RD from what I have heard. The location is perfect for vacationing. Both swim in Lake Michigan which is often unkind and always cold. Sound fun? Jump on in..... By the way, I considered Chisago and decided to go with Racine since it is so close to home. Would be great to see you in the Midwest. Suzy |

However, physically, either I'm waaaay out of shape or its a gazillion times harder than being on the road!! Now all I need is to find a few more triathlons to DVR! ![]() |
