![]() RJohnson1979 - 2011-05-15 4:43 PM IMLPeeps! Thanks for the support. My first 1/2 went great and I finished in 5hr 33min. Hooray! I know theres a LOT of work to be done leading up to LP in July but this just gives me the confidence that if you stick to a plan, it's possible. I did post a race report under Kinetic Half... also my first attempt at a race report (in bulleted format) dweeks - Congrats on your race this weekend as well. I hope everyone else had a great weekend and that training is going well. Ryan 5:33 fof your first HIM is super-LEGIT!! Great job. You're setting yourself up for a great day at LP. ![]() |

![]() mndymond - 2011-05-15 9:21 PM Had to pull out my magic recovery pants for the first time of the season because my legs are pretty cranky right now. When my legs are cranky and whiney, I drown them in an Ice Bath. Shuts them right up ![]() ![]() |

Question for the Ironman vets. Does anyone remember what flavor of gels they hand out on the course? There are only 2 flavors I can find that don't have caffiene in them (vanilla and raspberry) so I am wondering if anyone knows if they are available on the course or if I should order and start training with the ones that have some caffiene? Thanks! |

I forgot about the gels! I have been training with PB Perform, I don't want to have to buy PB Gels now too. Poop!! I think I can carry enough gels that I like but will still need to at least try a couple of the PB gels. Damnity damn damn

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ryan - Very impressive on 5.33...well done! On the gel note: I tried Cliff Bar Double Espresso and Mocha flavors both with caffeine and would recommend you trying it as well. Worked for me and had no problems with GI. Melissa - Sorry to hear that your race didn't go as well as you planned. Hopefully you're not so bumped amount not making the podium. My next race is this Sunday - Jerseyman Half...hopefully the water will get warmer in the next few days. Cheers everybody! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys! Thanks for the support! Back into training after the weekend. Need to get on the trainer soon...super windy out here and I'm not really comfortable being on the road alone with the gusts. I've just started watching True Blood on the trainer...I'm liking it so far! My magic pants indeed did the trick. I have Skins recovery pants--loooove them. I just ordered an extra pair that should arrive next week at some point along with a new cassette--11-28...I have discovered I was riding a 11-23...don't ask why...but I was. No kidding I was looking for an extra gear to dump on a few occasions last weekend... I'll get that on in perfect timing to head out west to Vancouver for the rest of the summer. Time to train in the mountains!! 2 weeks left of school. 4 finals. SO ready to be done the year! Hope everyone is training hard and making progress! |

![]() I remember a sentence from Kathy G's blog when she was in the middle of Ironman training and it went something like: "I'm fatigued all the time, except when I'm training." Anyone else have this going on?? I felt tired and crappy yesterday and today. Got in the pool and felt like a million bucks. Same thing with the Run and Bike. I gotta drag myself to start, but once I start I feel good. I also have a little bit of the fatigue fog going on. Anyone else?? |

I was just thinking something like this. I rode 80 miles on Sunday, did 75' yesterday and ran hill repeats, swam 3200 today and still have some big ring low cadence work to do later. I was tired all morning wondering how I was going to get through my swim. Felt great in the pool but now feeling a bit tired again and wondering how I'm gonna get through the grindfest. To top it all off I've got a HIM this weekend and am wondering how much to taper. I was going to make todays grind session my last hard workout and take Friday off completely, then race on Saturday. It's basically a C race as a long training day/tune up sort of thing. I'm torn about tapering a bit more to race harder than I am planning right now, but don't want to pay for it next week. Next week I've factored in 2 days off and easing back into workouts as recovery, if an hour run and 2 hour bike on Wednesday is easing back in |

Good luck with the HIM this weekend - Sounds like a complicated situation figuring out how much to taper and how hard to race so you are not shot next week. Let us know what you decide! Everyone is different but I didn't do much of a taper for my race although I did cut down the intensity a bit and completely rested the day before. There is probably no way around paying for it to some degree the following week but I agree you probably won't want to be completely out of it! Good luck!! |

Last week I took my wetsuit to the pool to get more comfortable before the race and felt like a lobster that was boiling in the pot.

Enjoy and don't be shy on sharing some pixs. I use 2XU compression pants and definitely feel the diference as I am walking, not sure about the recovery progress yet. LOL I realize that this might have been discussed before, but would it be a huge difference for 11-25 vs. 11-26 cassette on the IMLP course?? I currently use 11-25 and now have a concern if I have the right gear. Edited by igorkiev 2011-05-17 3:49 PM |

I guess I could say I feel better while doing a session and immediately after...but give it an hour and I'm back to baseline tired. I've fallen asleep at 830 the past 2 nights. I only wake up at 6 right now...The fatigue is making me slightly cranky/irritable. I snapped at my brother this morning for slurping and told him he had to leave the room if he couldn't eat quieter (I was studying at the time as well...so probably didn't help...I'm going to have to get him a cool IM cycling jersey or something once this is done since he is usually the one who gets the short end of my current mood)... Anyone incessantly hungry right now too? I feel gross with how much food I am eating...haha. I definately understand how people have major difficulties losing weight once IM specific training starts. Eat...then eat more....and more...AND THEN YOU ARE STILL HUNGRY!!! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I second the non-stop eating. In my previous life I played rugby in college and thought I ate a ton then... that was nothing compared to this. I mean just think of all the calories we burn during our training... and afterward too! I don't know all the science but I know you keep burning after working out for some time and boy does that all add up. My cranky and moodiness has come out a few times the past couple of weeks. I try really, really hard to keep an even keel but sometimes I just can't help it. The more I train the more my emotions can swing. That is a part of triathlon I'm not so good at yet. Keep up the good work everyone! Lots of positivity around this board and we can probably use all of that we can get. And good luck to everyone who is starting to race now. I've got a little over two weeks until my first tri of the season. Listening to everyone else about their races is getting me amped to start one soon. |

The bike course is different this year apparently, don't know if you've seen the web site. 4 loops, 14 miles each. Good times. Still some climbing I suppose and I think it's the same run course. Have you done Savageman? I've got a feeling Savageman may be tougher than Harryman, but I'm not taking it lightly |

I've got a feeling Savageman may be tougher than Harryman, but I'm not taking it lightly I have not done Savageman but have heard gruesome stories first-hand. ![]() ![]() I've seen the new Bike Course for Harryman and it may be even harder than years prior. It used to be a big round loop where you went all the way down to 7 Lakes Drive (which is flat, rolling) and then make a right onto Tiorati Brook for a few quick steep climbs, which followed a long harrowing descent before the KILLER 2-mile Climb. Now, it looks like (similar to last year) you make a right, BOMB the 2-mile descent and then have to climb up it, go down Lake Welch Dr., make a qright then quick u-turn, and have to CLIMB UP Lake Welch Pkwy. Yeah, this actually looks worse than the original Harryman big loop cause there is more climbing. TAPER MAN!! TAPER!!! ![]() Edited by Dream Chaser 2011-05-18 9:01 AM |

It is so hard to make good healthy choices when your body is saying that it wants pop tarts every afternoon or a half a box of cereal as a snack... I generally eat pretty healthy but when I don't, my body can definitely feel the difference the next day during training. Chicken and pasta is becoming a nightly staple! Maybe I need a nutrition coach - or a personal chef! |
