ouch, john.

speaking of wrist strap extensions, is there one for the 310xt like the velcro one for the 305?  Or could I use the same one?   Suzy?  where are you?????  we miss you???????????!

What are you asking? I got a new band for my 310 which enabled the quick release. It was pretty much the same as the original band.

Sorry, rereading my post, it really didn't make sense.

My wrist is too small for the watch band that came with my 305 (hard plastic), so I bought the one that came with the quick release (velcro) and was wondering if they had the same thing for the 310xt.  Apparently they do.

Now, I'm asking whether the strap I have for the 305 will work for the 310.  Since Trevor posted, I have looked at it online but it's not clear if it would work for both.  Or would I have to buy a whole new one (although not too expensive).  It looks like maybe a new one, since the mount looks like a different style.

I put the quick release for the 310xt onto the 305 velcro strap, and it works great. The pins for the 310 are a bit shorter, but if you bunch the fabric where they go in the band just a bit  you can get it on and then you really can't tell the difference. I've had mine set up this way since I got it a year ago.  Love the velcro and the 310xt!

I've studied my 305 velcro strap and I just don't see any way to attach anything to it, other than the 305. Would you be able to post pictures about what you're talking about, Roni?

Sorry about that. You're right, Kyla. Thanks for catching it. The strap I have is from the 301 not the 305. I thought they were the same, but just got Gary's old 305 out and looked at it more closely. It wouldn't work with the 305 strap. Here is the strap I'm using:

You can buy them for around $20. I just put the pins from the 310xt into the fabric loops, and it works great. Although it doesn't look as nice as the band that comes with it.

First, Fatty glad to see those berries are from Florida.  Wouldn't want you catching the crud with something from Mexico!

Second, Fatty and Kim is the face easy to read?  I had this ancient Timex and not only was the lap thingy on the side it was impossible to read because the face was dark.

Third, Jayne I had one of those and gave it away.  About half the time I would think I pushed the button and it didn't work (at least for me).

Finally, I am ignoring that bag all together.

I have no idea.  I think someone posted the Timex Ironman lap watch when we had that discussion way back.  I think I will just get one cuz it is relatively cheap, it comes in purple and I can use it casually if it doesn't work in the pool.  Then I'll let you know....lol.  What happened to the pennies?

I think I am going to forgo the 310xt and the 910xt and just get a small running watch...maybe the FR110.  I don't need it for the bike since I have my Garmin 500.  Too much technology, too many choices, too many things to go wrong on my little itty bitty doll wrist.  For OWS, I'll do group swims and ask someone else how far we went.  That works for me.

What bag?

I was unclear.  I want this watch to time me doing intervals.  I never wanted to know that information and now I do.  I tried to time 300s using the pace clock today with some crazy "hit this" and rest interval and couldn't remember where I started.  I still use the pennies for the 10x100s or whatever.  I used a swimsense at our pool and it is too complicated and had too much data for me (and I rarely say that).  When it comes to swimming I need to keep it SIMPLE!

John your comment on the interval being smaller concerns me.  I have seen those watches and I don't like them.  The only thing I care about is the time for that interval and hitting the rest time which is ALWAYS more than 10'.  Come on, it's me.

Twin, scroll up if you must to see the bag.  I woudln't do it!

Not scrolling up!  Okay, I think you should get the 910xt and then send me your 310xt.  There.  Both of our problems solved!  Innocent

My 310XT has been flaking out lately.  I need to upgrade it before the season, but not sure about the 910XT given it's the first year.  And I am sure the swimming thing is too complicated.  I only want to know so much about my swimming.  Stroke rate? distance per stroke? Nope.

Off to a wine party with dinner!

Have fun at the party!

I think I am going to do what I said earlier, and go with FR110 or something like it that has GPS and HRM and is not as bulky as the others when my 305 finally croaks.  I'll stick with the pace clock at the pool for now.  Keep it simple for now.

OK, swimmer dinner girl. Here is the same watch that Fatty posted, only in a different color. (GMTA!) More comments below.

Sorry if the image is big!! I took a picture while it had the time and the lap time showing -- the lap time is smaller, and as Fatty said, it doesn't appear for :10, so if your rest is that or shorter, this won't work.

I, for one, LOVE Timex watches and have lots of them. I'm a little obsessive about waterproof watches. This is the latest in my arsenal, and I chose it because of the B-I-G numbers so I can see them in my OWS lake -- but I am just looking at overall time, not splits.

I've never had a problem with pressing Timex buttons under water -- I do it all of the time. Maybe I'm just lucky?

Dunno if this helps at all. I'll do some watch research to see what I can figure out, cuz I think that sort of stuff is fun and my brain can't deal with what I NEED to be doing right now!!

Kim if you get a FR110 let me know how you like it!! I think I'll buy one for Dave for anniversary or half-birthday. (It sucks that his bday is in December, as it can be hard to buy gifts for the man who has everything only one time a year, really!

And good girl for using the pace clock! I love the old analog pace clocks -- I just fall into the patterns of knowing when I should leave for my intervals and I use that to count reps as well. When I swim in pools with digital pace clocks, I get all discombobulated because I'm trying to remember NUMBERS vs. a PICTURE -- my brain sees a pace clock in 1/4s, 1/3s, and 1/6s, it's all visual vs. mathematical for me.

Can't you just push the lap button on the 310xt?

I have to say I don't really care how fast I'm swimming, I care more about how well or smooth I'm swimming. I feel that speed follows smoothness unless you're planning on entering swim sprint events!

Last I checked, Dave is not my father!!!

I'll haft do so e research and think about Portland. We stay with friends and when I did the marathon we stayed at the Embassy Suites, but the tri isn't in Portland proper, I'm sure... That said, the Pearl district is a fun area.

No... You CAN see the interval immediately... The total time doesn't start ticking/showing again for 10 sec., such that if you were using this for your send-offs as well, if you were coming in and would have less than 10 seconds before you needed to push off, you wouldn't be able to tell when to go. If you routinely get more than 10 sec. of rest, then that is a non-issue. Am I making sense??

FWIW, I have two of the watch that Kim originally posted (one blue, one purple) and they are awesome -- cuter as a regular watch, too. But my chicken-skinned-granny eyes wanted some bigger numbers to see in the lake, hence my Man Watch.

I have a Timex Ironman watch, too, but I don't use the lap button in the pool. I run through about one a year, usually because I end up cracking the ring around the face and moisture gets in, but they aren't very expensive and are available at discount stores. The lap time is smaller than elapsed time but not tiny. I wouldn't be able to read it underwater but it's easy enough to see when stopped at the wall.

Suzy, for your timed repeats, it's a lot easier to remember your times and where you are in the set if you go on a regular interval instead of X seconds of rest. Kyla, I prefer the analog pace clock for the same reason.

PS.  I agree on the whole interval thing.  I have crazy things like finish on X:46 and go on X:16....too old to remember where I started and calculate the interval.

I use the same watch in the pool.  FYI, you can switch the location of the total time and the lap time using the set up screens depending on which you would rather have larger.  I usually make my split time the larger size.  I have never had an issue with water damage even pushing the buttons under water.

Congrats on a great run Julia!!!!  Would love to see the pics or videos of the wipeouts....
