Kido - 2013-01-14 5:13 PM I decided to give up training JUST for tri and become a gym rat.  Get all swoll and stuff.

Once I get my ego battered and accept that I'll never VQ/KQ, I'll probably do the same and return to the gym.  I miss lifting like that and getting big.  Until then, however, I'm giving this tri thing a shot as best I can to see what I can do.

It's all this sort of stuff why I was perfectly Ok with things when I was told I wouldn't be allowed to babysit my nephews/nieces until they were old enough to dial 9-1-1.

And to this day, I haven't had to babysit, yet

Funny, I'm pretty sure I won't be asked to babysit either... no matter if they're old enough to dial 911 or not.

SO...  The wife is auditioning for a roll on General Hospital this week.  I'm nervous for her.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get it!  Finger's crossed.

Awesome! Best of luck to her! Or, break a leg, if that's still what people say.

fun fact.  I think they do say that for acting.  But for dance, saying "break a leg" is BAD mojo.  So they say "merde" (which is a bad word en francais).

And FYI - I'm pretty sure Natalie Portman is on BOTH of our 'lists'

As she should be!

My list has recent entries of Olivia Wilde and Leslie Mann

Is it bad that I don't even know who these two women are?

I'm with you Tech. I've heard the names.

You know their face just not the names

No I really don't know who they are other than that they're famous for something.

Olivia Wilde - the woman in Cowboys vs Aliens, Year One, The Next Three Days, TRON

Leslie Mann - 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, This is 40, etc...

Jessica Biel and Gwyneth Paltrow need to be on any list, too, IMO.

Gwyneth Paltrow gets on my nerves. She is the same character in every movie.

Most actors/actresses are.  Actually, almost ALL of them are.

All of them are ... what? The same character?

Most actors play variations of the same character over and over... or they only have one acting style.

Tom Hanks is probably one of the very, very few that isn't like that.

Tom Cruise?  Same character in every movie.  His characters differ very little from Top Gun to Mission Impossible.... it's just his style.

- same in every movie.

Morgan Freeman - widely regarded as one of the best actors of our time... same in every movie.

Heck, even Alec Guiness wasn't very different in Bridge on the River Kwai vs. playing Obi Wan.

Tom Cruise can be diverse. Look at him in Tropic Thunder! Hilarious!

It's funny that you say that, because as I was typing his name, Tropic Thunder was the ONE exception that I could think of, hehe!

Though, I still think he was the same old him, it's just that costume throwing us off

...and the really bad dance moves.

Speaking of Tom Cruise. Do a google news search for him. He has had a very strange week.

Movie bombed, his book says he's here to fight aliens... Very strange.

Morning TAN

Foot cramps in the arch of my foot during my run yesterday, but this morning I'm worrying that it may have been more than just a cramp because it hurts to walk on today.  Hoping that it's just lingering soreness and not something worse :-/

Why can't injuries happen when you're not training for anything specific?

Chris were you runnin g on softer or harder terrain than usual ? I have a similar problem that has slowly slowly been getting marginally worse with my right heel. This weekend I ran for the first time with those gel heel cups. Today it feels like they helped a little. Today am going the full monty with the full implants in the work shoes as well. They feel really nice. The heel still hurts but its not as uncomfortable with every step. I have been doing some stretching as well so will see how it goes....

Same terrain as always - sidewalks. :/

It felt a little "twinge-y" at first.  Then it nearly stopped me in my tracks. After some walking I was able to return to a slow jog and eventually finished the run at a slow run.

Matt - I didn't want to break out the "PF" talk, but it may well be that.  Pain starts at the outside of the foot, forward of the heel. Not quite in the arch, but in line with it.  I have been pretty terrible about stretching lately, so it does make sense.

Alas, this is TAN... no more training talk

BEWBS!

Good for you Yanti!.... and your toe, Meh!

Sounds more like Posterior Tibialis Tendonitis than PF. The PT is the same for both though. Do the alphabet excesise aka draw each letter of the alphabet in the air with you foot. there is also the towel squish where you wad up a dish towel with your toes. The PTT took less time to heal then the PF!.

Did a little searching/reading today.... based upon what I feel, I think it is more the Peroneal Tendon.  Pain comes and goes... I have times where I can barely put weight on the foot, others where I suddenly feel like I could go running right now, so I'm thinking it might be getting hung up on something in there, or something.

Nothing to do but RICE, I guess.   Good thing running is my strongest sport right now and I can afford to miss a little time from it (comparatively, anyway).

Of all the best picture nominations, I have seen about half.

Argo
Amour
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Django Unchained
Les Misérables
Life of Pi
Lincoln
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty

I have Argo, Les Mis, and SLP at home to watch and Plan to go see Django this week.  To be honest, I never even HEARD of Amour and Beasts.  I'm not in the mood to even see Pi, probably wait for Redbox or HBO.

But of the ones I have seen, it's a toss up between Lincoln and Argo with a close runner up in Les Mis.  I guess it depends if you into musicals or not.

What's Argo like?  I've heard a few people mention it, but I don't know that I've even seen a trailer for it.  I want to see Pi in 3D for the visuals alone.  It looks incredible.

Django is a fun movie.

Argo is fantastic.  True story that was declassified.  COOL story, funny moments from the John Goodman and movie producer characters.  Intense and stressful.  Plus you can't beat the 70's/80's clothes and hair...

I PROMISE you would like it.

Don't do it bro. Jason maybe because he looks like a different body type, but Jim, I've done that a few times and it doesn't work out well. You put on bulk, then you can't take it off when you want to get back to tri stuff...

ETA: Insanity is a different story. But free weights, heavy lifting, I'd stay away.

A friend of mine from college is one of the background exercisers (not really sure what else to call them) on the insanity videos.  He, along with about 20 others told me that I should give it a shot.  I finally took them up on the offer since I am a bit disgruntled with the cost and overcrowding of the tri's in my area.  Time for something new!

I'm actually hoping for exactly that problem.  I tend to be on the thin side (read this as fat Kenyan) and don't really "bulk up" very well.

I've heard Lincoln is worth 2-3 viewings. And Argo looks like a great story.

I want to see Les Mis (loved the book and my favorite musical), and J is willing to go with, but I don't know if I can do that to him. Heard lots of men say it was torturous. :/

Ummm...yeah. Can you tell I haven't seen many movies lately?

No matter how many weights I lift, I can't `bulk up' ... just not the right type of body.

I can lift a lot of weight and I've been told I have `dense' muscles, but I'm definitely not bulky. Whatever.
