Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success 90' on the drainer this morning. This week's long ride was Trainerroad - Palisade. Similar to last weeks ride - over unders around threshold. Difference was that last week was 2' just under threshold and the 1' above threshold. This week was reversed - 1' under threshold and 2' over. I looked back through my logs for the last year - since I started training with a power meter on the bike. Toughest ~90 minute workout to date. Really proud I was able to gut it out. Did strength workout after. http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/1321191-Palisade Joe 4 03:52:00 Jim 5 04:18:14 Mitch 6 04:52:00 Gabe 1 00:56:45 Ellen 2 01:06:00 Dennis 05 09:33:00 Jackie 3 3:24:12 Edited by trisuppo 2014-12-07 8:38 AM |

For power, I'm using a CycleOps Power Cal strap that works off of HR. It costs less than $100. Good enough for me right now. I loved renting the aero wheels! Mitch, keep the road bike, or get another one. Unlike Joe, I do the majority of my training on my road bike and I like doing hills. I think it makes me a stronger rider. I only ride the tri-bike about 30 days before the race. I can't say enough about the Ultragen recovery drink. I am so tired of hearing people tell me that they are always tired and/or always sick. Fuel properly for your workouts and make sure to replace what you've lost with your recovery drink/food. |

I read a recent article from Endurance Nation and they talked about the importance of fueling for all workouts, I often would skip fueling on workouts 60 minutes or less. They recommend always fueling to ensure that your muscles have the energy necessary to hit your workout goals so you achieve the fitness gains you are striving for. Today I did gels at 10 minutes prior, 20 minutes into the workout and at 50 minutes. This mirrors nicely my nutrition strategy I followed jn my HIM this year (gels every 30 minutes). I also use an electrolyte tab in my water which I swear makes recovery easier. |

Master 1609 Gold Coast Australia. | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Hola from Bogota! Finally arrived and had a good sleep after a very long flight. This morning at 6am went for a run in the park and to loosen things up did only 5k. Oxygen is a good thing when you run... at 8000' there's not enough of it. I was doing surprisingly good, but didn't want to overdo it. Next run will be longer. |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success I slogged through today's run, my heart wasn't into it my mind wasn't into it, and I tried the just five more minutes trick and well the result was a forced point qualifier after a 35 minute runch. The crazy schedule at home and work is finally catching up, I am so ready for time off and the holiday break. Master 1609 Gold Coast Australia. | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Originally posted by sawyer1206 Hola! Welcome to the Northern Hemisphere. Thanks Dennis! It feels good to be able to walk/run upright, finally. Did 10k run and some intervals this morning, geez it's so different with limited O2. My running track here is the perimeter of a nice park, exactly 1k distance so it's easy to test the pace. Every time I come here I try some new tricks to beat the thin air. So far the only thing that worked was breathing more than you naturally feel like and run/walk on longer distances. My scientific findings confirm Jeff Galloway's (run/walk proponent) conclusions as far as the ratio and advantage in longer than 15k distances. The pictures show the running track and my legs after a run (the surface, while dirty, is easy on your knees, apparently). Not sure that an unsupported adventure race holds a lot of allure for me - the whole carrying tent, clothes and food thing is a non-starter for me. Would think that you'd need to dramatically change your training habits here and focus on lots of slow running, hiking, etc. over a prolonged period of time. What's the plan? |
