She's so right! Your daughter is really stunning in that dress, and you two do look *a lot* alike. What a sweet picture. I'm glad you were able to be there with her.

Any word from Renee??? I'm dying to know how her race went!

Hey everyone!

Terri – Sounds like everything is really coming together for you (the bike for one – literally haha)  So glad to hear your heel is getting better!  You’ll have to keep us updated on your decision for the duathlon!

Beth – What a beautiful picture!  Thanks for sharing!  Hope your daughter had a wonderful evening last night!!

Erin –  Sorry to keep you waiting, LOL!

I decided to post a quick update here, cuz I’m sure my RR won’t be done quick . . .

So….. I survived my first race and am no longer a tri-virgin, YAAAAY!!  I had a blast and am feeling pretty good post-race!  Doing a race definitely pumped me up – should make training more enjoyable, at least for a bit haha  Heck, the prospect of having to do double this distance in 2 months WILL ensure I do my training - YIKES!!!!

I finished in a time I am very happy with!  I planned for 4hours, would be much happier with 3hours 45minutes, and figured I would be thrilled with 3:30 or less.  My unofficial results are 3:27:21.5!  That is with one bathroom break, LOL!  AND I took 11 minutes for my 2 transitions, which is way more than I planned – so the other areas of the race went way better than I could have hoped!  I finished 188 out of 230.  So % wise, not great, but I’m just happy I hit “my” time!

I’ll be back later (in my RR) with more details than anyone will want to take time to read haha

TTYL!

Yayayayayay!! Renee, you kicked ! I can't believe this was your first race -- you ripped right through it. Sure, the transitions could use some work (hee!), but your times are fantastic. I'm super, super impressed.

Congratulations, triathlete!

Now get on the race report -- I want ALL the details.

Great race, Renee!!!  Can't wait to hear the whole story!

I rode longer and further than I have in many years yesterday.  It was lots of hills and a ton of fun.  I will probably do more than that next weekend, too.  We had one nice day here on Saturday--over 80 degrees--which fueled my hope that it will eventually be nice out consistently.  Seriously, that was the first warm day since sometime last September!!

Did anyone else follow the IMAZ folks yesterday? I thought it was *crazy* inspirational. I loved all of it -- even the heartbreaks, which in some ways are more inspirational than the successes. I am so impressed with the people who suffer grave, terrible disappointments and keep pushing anyway, even if "pushing" is just dealing with the mental heartbreak. Watching PirateGirl finish after 16-plus hours was just amazing.

With that in mind, I've definitely decided to pass on training for my next oly for the time being, and focus on running a couple half marathons (with maybe *gasp* a marathon somewhere down the line -- God, I can't believe I'm even thinking it), with a sprint or two thrown in for fun.

Speaking of sprints, I raced a super-super-mini sprint on Saturday just for kicks, and the one notable part: I freaked out in the swim. It was just 100 meters in a pool, and I totally lost it. I managed to finish it, but only by swimming with my head out of the water. I have no clue what happened! I felt 100 percent fine until the second my head went under the water, and then I panicked. So weird.

Thanks everyone

I had a great time and am very happy to know I can do it!  Triathlete you say . . . I like the sound of that :D

Ok, I put my race report up . . . not that anyone (ahem Erin) is impatient to see it, LOL!

Shawn – Can’t wait to hear all about your race!  Hope your calf is doing better and you are over that bug!

Erin – Transitions could use *some* work? LOL!  A whole LOT of work :P  I wish I could have seen IMAZ.  There was a  guy on my shuttle to the airport Friday who also had a bike carrier – he was headed to IMAZ.  What are the chances – 2 of us on one shuttle in Omaha at 5:00AM!!!  I asked him how many people in NE do them – he counted out FOUR and one in Des Moines, IA.  Maybe one day I'll make it five   Tells you how common they are around here.  I hope he did well!  I LOVE hearing those stories . . . dang!

Leslie – Congrats on the long ride!  Glad you are getting some nice weather – it sure does make everything more enjoyable!

Beth – Wow, you have been SUPER busy lately!  Hope you have a nice time at the VB tourney.

Yanti – Congrats on the bike!  What a story!  I'm sure you will do wonderful things with it!

Terri – Thanks . . . I wasn't too sure of my choice to start with an OLY –  no way of knowing until after the race, LOL!  I'm just glad it worked out!

Ok, going to bed, hoping to hit 5:45 spin!

TTYL!
Renee

What's the haps?  No posts for over 24 hours???  Heellllooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

I did a 64 minute run today, and am taking tomorrow (Wed) off to celebrate my mom's birthday.  Although there's a  chance I may swim tomorrow night.  We shall see....still, it's been a high volume week--I haven't done this much ever!  I love looking at all the graphs in my blog.

What's everyone else up to? Yanti, I assume you are on the bike every day now??

I *love* looking at the charts in high volume weeks! Do you look at your graphs section too? I love comparing where I am (or was, since I'm in low volume right now) to where I was six months ago. Nice job on the run today!

I'm very run-focused right now, planning to run four days a week, swim twice a week, bike twice a week until my race in early May, and then bike probably once a week after that. I hate to admit it, but it feels good to be backing off from the tri training a little. Still, reading all of the IMAZ reports is definitely getting me thining about that next oly again...

I'm also a little tiny bit jazzed because I came in second in my age group (30-39) at the super mini tri on Saturday. It's not all that impressive, because seriously, it was an insanely short race and I didn't even technically swim the 100 meters, but still! It's neat to see my name so high on the results page! Hee.

Leslie -- you rock! That's an amazing week ... and don't those big bars just make you feel terrific as you are??? That's another PR, I'd say!

Erin -- You're an excellent runner, very strong, and upping your run volume will really build an excellent base for success in road races and also future tris. (Pssst--run fitness translates better to the other two disciplines than the other two do to the other two--you did get that, right? )

As for the tri--YOU ought to be pleased as punch!!! Of course it's impressive! I don't care who you are or where or what the tri was ... good people always show up and that day, YOU WERE THE GOOD PEOPLE!!! Congratulations!

WHOA. Seriously? *You* got up at 6 a.m. for a morning workout??? What's happening to the world! I feel like I should buy a lottery ticket or something, take advantage of this crazy day.

Thanks for the ribbon, Yanti! And for the little pep talk -- I never thought about running being better for the other two than the other two...eh, you said it better than me. Heh. I get your point.

Where's Shawn? Doesn't he have a race this weekend? Or is it the following weekend?

Hey all hope everyone is better then me. I think I am getting over this stomach bug but I went for a short 5 k easy run tonight just to keep loose for the race on Sunday and my calf is still acting up. I was 3 k in when I felt it go but kept going and it got a bit better. hopefully it will be ok for the race cause I am doing it no matter what. Oh and the race day weather forecast is COLD with a chance of SNOW!!! Wondering if I should go road bike or my mountain bike if it snows lol.

Yanti I love the story on your bike and I am sure everyone is right that you are the perfect one for that bike. good job at getting to the gym. I wish I could sleep in that much I have to get up at 4:45 to do my workouts before work then still try and do some after work.

Enough of my moaning and complaining YOU GUYS ROCK!!! this is the best GROUP on BT

I agree, this is the BEST group on BT, hands down.  Shawn, snow!!!  Argh!  We have it in the forecast here, as well.  Super bummer, as I want to do another long ride this weekend.....but you HAVE to get out in it, no matter what.  Glad you can run on the leg, can you do some massage, ice, anything to loosen it up more before the race? What are the distances you are doing?

All of you getting up at the crack of dawn are crazy....crazy awesome!  Triathletes do what it takes to get the job done, that's what makes it a very special community.  I will be doing a bike and swim tomorrow....afternoon babysitter....yay!

Non-tri stuff:  I spent EIGHT hours away from the kids/house/bills/laundry/mess today and shopped and had lunch with my mom and sister.  It was lovely. A PR for me, seriously.  Gotta learn to get away more often!!!  And in case I didn't broadcast it to the world, my kid is weaned, completely and totally.....nothing for over two weeks!!!  That concludes SIX years of pregnancy and/or nursing nonstop without a break.  Welcome back, body!    Finally, both kids were asleep in bed together by 8:30 tonight....a good ending to a fun day!!!!

Happy evening to everyone!

WOOHOO!!! That is awesome, Leslie! It must feel amazing (and maybe a little bit sad?).

Shawn: I'm sorry you're still hurting. That's great that you intend to do the race no matter what -- just be careful, OK? We really are the most awesome group on BT -- by a long shot! -- and I don't want any of us taken down.

I had number one for my trail run a few weeks back...I loved being #1!  Everyone cheered, saying "YOU ARE #1, GO #1" etc etc.  I would love to have it in every race.  I think you are fortunate and that it is a good omen.  You will do great!!!!
