I missed the 4x100 last night because I fell asleep too but it's posted on that website. Great to see Cullen Jones getting a gold medal. 

The whole talking trash before a race like that always seems to backfire.  Especially when the media publishes it in sufficient time to give someone motivation.

I caught some of the Badminton and it was actually pretty captivating.  Rowing was like watching concrete dry though...they showed the numbers on the front edge of the boat and the water going by.  The athletes don't even have a wince on their face.  Gymnastics was actually quite captivating last night.  I hate the "judged" sports they just seem to be too subjective.  For example, one girl goes-out and falls on the dismount and gets a 15.6... score the other girl goes out and takes one misstep and gets a 14.9... It just seems too subjective.

I'm glad you caught some badminton yesterday! I missed it (I need cable). I managed to watch basketball, water polo, rowing (which I like, but semifinals aren't too exciting), women's road race, women's gymnastics. I LOVE the olympics.

Team USA was off to a rocky start yesterday, but if I remember correctly that's how they started in Athens as well. No worries.

The scoring in gymastics is less subjective now that it used to be (but it's so much more confusing). I do agree, it's tough. It seems to be even worse in ice skating.

I just watched the 4x100 on NBCOlympics.com - That seriously gave me chills and almost made me cry.  Man I love sports and the Olympics....

Phelps swims the 200 free final tonight. I will be sure to have a wake-up call so I don't miss that one!

You know, You hope the american girls can win in Gymnastics, but then you realize that the chinese kids are raised for that one purpose and if they don't win, that's just sad.  If the american girls come home with a silver, they can still go to college, become big celebrities, etc.  But the Chinese girls don't necessarily get that.  That said, I hope our ladies kick their butts...

As far as the swimming, what's your take on the new suit? I think it's cheating on the old records  but then again, so is a carbon-fiber tri-bike and all of the garbage the shooters wear, etc, etc.

Best over-dramatic performances have got to be the team handball guys when they take a shot!!!

That's right!  I forgot you guys on the east coast get it late (I think).  I think it's better here. 

I hear ya. I mean, I can't really get excited about any team other than the U.S. (although, I am sort of rooting for Liu Xiang, because man does he have a lot to live up to), but I feel awful for the Chinese. Our girls look so happy and relaxed (to an extent), but the poor Chinese girls look miserable and stressed, etc. It's kind of sad. I don't wish them any bad luck or anything, but I do hope our girls outscore them.

For the Olympics, you so do! I could totally train in the AM, watch the Olympics in the PM and then get to bed early enough to do it all the next day. Diving is on now! I LOVE the Olympics. YAY !

Not just for the Olympics, for all sports fandom.  Think about it, during football season, they can wake-up, get breakfast and watch football.  We have to stay-up late over here to watch any sporting event of significance except for golf tournaments. 

I was excited that I got to watch a little bit of the wrestling coverage this morning.  Greco-Roman is kinda boring because it's so much about strength and leverage instead of technique, but the lightweight guys are exciting to watch.  I was feeding my son the whole time and when I let him down from his high chair, he started trying to grapple me.  It's funny what they pick-up on.

hehe.. rowing doesn't look all that tough, and it's definitely boring to watch, but it's HARD.  I used to row in college and believe me they're working their butts off.  Just a tiny shift in balance and your oar can get stuck in the water, ruining the race for your boat.  I only rowed for one season.  I didn't like it all that much since we had practices really early in the morning and I was also in volleyball off season at the time.  I think I was just worn out and 5:30 AM practices sucked in college

I didn't say it wasn't hard or they weren't fit, I'm just saying it's boring on television.  It's like watching one of those little dolphin magnet desktop things, it's mesmerizing and it's interesting, but it's not all that exciting. 

Now, make them turn-around at the other end and row-back and we're more interested. 

Give them each a bow and 2 arrows and now we're really watching...

Or, my favorite, put them in the same lane and let them fight-it-out as they row along... It'd be like the Tri Swim Start...

I didn't realize we won Bronze in men's Gymnastics!  Way to go little dudes!!!  Pommel Horse is pretty much the coolest thing.

Yeah, it's a shame. If the Hamm twins hadn't been injured, we maybe would have taken gold. I am guessing. I fell asleep before they came on last night.

Yeah my poor parents came to a few of my rowing races and they were bored   It's not very interesting for spectators.  The first race they came to it poured the whole time.  They're such troopers though and sat out there with their huge umbrella.  I love my parents!

My favorite event in gymnastics is the vault.  I especially like watching the women, they generate so much power.  I think it's fascinating! 

Too bad they couldn't ride bikes along side you .

I love the balance beam, but I am a nervous wreck watching it!

I'm the same way about the Vault, the uneven Bars, the High Bar and the Rings.  I mean they come down with such force and there's no way that's good for the ankles...

Oh man. You must just be so stressed out while watching gymnastics! I watch the beam with one eye open at times. If it were my mom, daughter, sister, cousin, best friend, whatever doing the beam, I don't know what would happen to me!

(p.s. - I don't have a daughter or sister, just said that.)

I feel bad for the Romanians   They were so good in previous years.  They were showing a beam routine for one of their female gymnasts and she wasn't doing very well at all.  Fell off, wobbled around...

Hey guys! I too am glued to the tv watching the Olympics whenever I can. Forgive my ignorance, but is that kick they do off the wall in swimming the dolphin kick? Is the rule that they can do it until they need to come up for air? Do you guys ever practice that? It looks tough!

haha, yeah, she really is. Did anyone read the thread in the Olympic forum about us women's gymnastics being an embarrasment? It really rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.

It's when the lane markers change from a solid color to alternating.  They implimented that rule because some people were doing it for a LONG time, and it's faster....
