![]() | ![]() marmadaddy - 2008-07-18 12:28 PM Spokes - 2008-07-18 11:57 AM The thing that's so ridiculous about BT is there's a whole undercurrent here that if you don't do an IM you're really not worthy to be in triathlon. Hell, X2's BF does nothing but sprints and olys and his times for his AG and overall kick the butts of most of the people on here... but he's not a 'real triathlete' by the silly standard that's on this board. Ok, I need to rebut this. It's utter and complete BS. May I call your attention to the Introduce Yourself forum... Or the Races Reports forum... Do you really stand by that statement? I'd like to see examples please. And by that, I mean lots of them. There are regularly well over 1000 people on here creating many thousands of posts in a single day. The enormous majority of them directly contradict what you wrote above. So if you can't find more than just a couple of posts of this type, I'm going to call the quotation above exactly what it is which is a poor mix of whining and trolling. Ridiculous indeed... x2... I responded similarly a few pages ago but it probably got lost in the shuffle. |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() Rynamite - 2008-07-18 10:33 AM They tend to hang with the HD guys... but they have their own little group of their own. Most of them don't like "Jap bikes". It's funny, some of them won't wave to me on my crotch rocket. I wave at everyone, from mopeds to trikes. I'm not clique-y in any way when it comes to motorcycles. Maybe I don't ride enough. I prefer sport bikes, but a nice cruiser would be cool. I REALLY want a chopper too. Also, just riding a huge Gullwing or something like that across the country would be great. Just like Jay Leno, I'm just a bike enthusiast, he just happen to have a bajillion dollars to collect all kinds.... Edited by Aikidoman 2008-07-18 12:38 PM |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Is it okay if I interject some happy stuff into this TAN. I am now officially working on my first manuscript and to make things even better the journal that I'm most interested in submitting my paper to has full LaTeX support. Wooh Doggies!! I will start the conversion of my conference paper from the yucky new word format to LaTex on Monday and then take it from there. Yeah!! eta: stupid typos. Edited by cami bee 2008-07-18 12:41 PM |

We would never pull a thread over a criticism of the site. As hard as we work at it, BT isn't perfect nor will it ever be . We've also put ourselves in a position where people trust and rely on us, and we take that very seriously. Given these things we'll take all the public criticism in the world when it's legit. But I won't have this community mischaracterized as elitist nor all the good it does helping people to change their lives for the better dismissed out of hand. |

I responded similarly a few pages ago but it probably got lost in the shuffle. I am sure there are those that feel this is the case. And a few pro's out there that have expressed the same sentiment even going as far as saying you have to do Kona to be a triathlete. I can say as a new member here that I don' think that is the case here at BT. There are always going to be those that see IM as the definition of a triathlete. I see triathlon similar to track. You have sprinters and distance runners. Neither trumps the other nor IMHO is one better than the other. There are body types that support one or the other, and in some cases neither. But the latter have the heart pushing them through it, which is the most respectable than all. I was a sprinter in high school. With little training I did rather well at my only event which played to my advantage as a super sprint. I know I will not fare as well in my upcoming Olly because I don't have the base training. I want to do an IM event because that is a goal that I made for myself years ago before I ever made the first step into training for triathlon. Those outside of triathlon only really ever hear about IM and especially Kona. So that is what they equate to IM. I would think that those of us here know that is quite the opposite. |

All the ones I have show nothing but suffering... No whining Oh, you meant, suffering in triathlons...yeah, my "action" shots are pretty hilarious. Ok, reading marma's post, shame on me for: a) whining b) being grumpy c) not renting a car. My parents have 1 car. My dad is having his bout of chest pains about water in the basement since the forecast for the next 4 days has humidity and constant t-storms in it. d) the kids are bored out of their skulls and want to see a movie. But I promised I would wait for one of parents' set of friends to show up and see the kids, and who knows when they'll get here. e) Dad has taken 2 shots of nitro spray in the last 10 minutes. If the pain doesn't slow down he goes to hospital, which means I have no car. Which means no movies for the kids, which I promised them. f) its raining. g) I should've stayed in California had the visit there. c) through g) have nothing to do with marma's response. I should not have qualified my personal experience with triathlon racing and two triathlon communities in MS and CA to extend to a website that is not related to either. You know we love your senior TANning, fixie-riding, pink-hula-skirt wearing self, right? |
