I've got two HR monitors. A Garmin and a Polar. I like the Garmin when I need to know how far I've gone and I also use it for hiking and walking. The polar is great for the trainer, treadmill and swimming. The Garmin you can't take swimming, or at least the 350 you can't. Or is it the 305. I don't know. What kind of Polar is it that you can take it swimming? I had no idea you could actually do that too! I take it that the polar is strictly a HRM if you use a Garmin for things like distance? (sorry, but I'm a bit blonde at times ) Yes, Polars are pretty much strictly HRMs/sport watches. There are some Polars that will do distance if you get a foot pod that you attach to your shoe. The one I ordered will do that. What is the foot pod? Is it something that you just tie to your laces? Yep. It looks like this: |

Champion 6225 | Subject: RE: Taser Roasted Peeps OMG. here i started ANOTHER new page. i must have the page starting magic touch or something. now im starting to feel a little creeped out by the whole everytime i post a new page starts... do-do-do-do-do-do (twilight zone theme song....) anyways. woke up STIFF AND SORE. my butt, my hip, my elbow, my knee. but im gonna roll w the punches. normally im SUCH a woosy-baby (is that how you sp woosy?) about these sorts of things.... headin to the pool later on 44 mins, not sure how far ill get. gonna take something to count laps though (havent gotten the lap counter, darnitall) i need to get a time for a 400 yd swim, to submit my form for the mini that im doing end of April. theyre asking for a time for 400 yd swim, damned if i know.... ill be sure to keep my eyes peeled for a pool piglet. HELLO, PICTURES??? so i know what the heck im looking for.
then i have an 88 min ride to get in, though id LOVE to be outside, mother nature definately is NOT cooperating today (damn her!) so its spin for me, but later this eve, they have a 1/2 hr class then a hour class right after that way i can get in my 88 mins. then a rest day for me tomorrow, and my FIRST RACE/5K on Saturday since my injury. its time to get back on....... after the week ive had, not sure bustin' a move is in the cards. heck after the last few months ive had.... at the rate im going this wk, ill be HAPPY to get there in one piece, line up, run a reasonably good race, and then celebrate w green beer and pizza. my two younger sons are running the 1 miler w their dad. that'll be a TREAT. this will be the 2nd im-racing- a-race-like-mommy-gets-to-race they'll be running. if they get serious about this running stuff, they could be quite good. they didnt get swifty feet from their mom that's for sure!! HAVE ANOTHER HAPPY TRPs. stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-03-12 6:55 AM |

Elite 2443 Athens, Georgia | Subject: RE: Taser Roasted Peeps I need to vent a little. A little background first...I just retired early from my Local PD (early 10 years of service) to go the the Sheriff's Office. I was on our old version of Swat which is nothing like the team here at the S.O. I know all the guys and though I already planned on trying out was forced to try out before I am technically eligable. So I have been training to meet their more stringient (sp?) standards. I have been doing fine with most of it due to my tri background. Well it finally hit me yesterday that there is a 100 yard rescue carry of the teams heviest member to simulate an injured team member recovery. Sounds like no big deal untill you meet the teams heviest member. For goodness sakes with all the strict guidlines and freaking near impossibility to make the team (about 50 to 75 try out every year about 20 pass the tests and they accept maybe 5 or so) there is no way a really heavy guy could make the team...RIGHT?? Imagine my delight when I put two and two together yesterday when I met a particular member of the team. He is a great guy that happens to be 6'7 and 320 #'s of muscle. Ok not too bad then he laughs and tells me that I will be doing it in full gear ok there is and extra 50 pounds added to me and he will be in his full gear...add another 60 pounds to him. Ok I am not the smallest guy but I am definitely no strength champion either. So all in all I have to drag, cary, slide, waddle, cry, push, shove, or by some other means transport his big a$$ 100 yards. (((((CRAP)))))). It is ok though he will only weigh about 380 plus the weight of my gear...This will be a piece of cake right? We shall see in about two hours when we have training.... Sorry for the long post. |

There's only one solution -- eat enough to get your own weight over 320 #s. Then you'll be the heaviest guy, and they'll have to carry YOU. Seriously, that's insane... why don't they just have a standard weight that everyone has to carry. Why penalize the group that has the biggest guy? Or reward the group that has the smallest guy? |
