Happychick - 2010-01-03 1:56 AM Well folks, I managed to make it through my first ever trainer ride ~ 90 mins worth!!  My hubby left for MO for two weeks tonight so this will be the only way I will get any bike time in and luckily it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be mentally.  However, physically, either I'm waaaay out of shape or its a gazillion times harder than being on the road!!  Now all I need is to find a few more triathlons to DVR!

YEAH MICHELLE!  Think about ordering a couple of Spinervals if you really want to get a good workout and pass the time. Warning: Some are easier than others! I started out with the Clydesdale one because it was doable at the time.  Love the new avatar by the way. Next time how about one with your daugher AND you?

All this talk about warm climates has got me started counting....only 21 more days until we take a short jaunt to Cabo. I love when Paul has "Meetings".  Just passed Day 8 with no foot pain so I am hoping to be run/walking by then.

Suzy

Good news Suzy.

Michelle,  Hulu.com is a good source for trainer watching and it's free.  If you have netflix there are even more options.  Sam and I are working through Lance Armstrongs 7 TdF wins on DVD now throught nextflix 16 DVD's.

I have about 300 miles straight so far on the trainer due to the fact it has been so nasty over the last month here.  Going to be rough getting outside for the 75 minute run today.

Great news here Suzy.  I am about to head out for my seven mile run.  It's the first time I am wearing my running pants this year.  It's only 19 here in SC with a windchill of 9   - cold for SC!  I know, I've turned into a wuss.

Anyone here a bowler?  My wife, who is not a bowler at all, is the high school bowling coach.  Her girls are undefeated so I guess she's doing something right.

I'm getting ready to load the kids up to go watch a match in Bloomington.  I always get a little vomit in my mouth pulling into Bloomington - I hate IUFrown.

How about that ECU kicker?  0 for 3 in under 2 minutes!

Saw that.  Was rooting against the SEC in that one.

Not much of a bowler but my brother did invite me to join a league with him last week.  Would actually be fun, but tough to commit 2 hrs a week to it.

Got a good trainer ride in this morning. Didnt get the fill 96 minutes though. We've been selling off our baby stuff, and had somone come over to buy the crib and change table! I'm like a greasy used car salesman trying to grind them for $20 more. Off to Costco to go spend all that money now, and then for a swim with the kids.

Have a good Sunday all.

I am not personally a bowler, but we just had a professional bowler join my country club a few months ago.  Typically it wouldn't last more than 10 seconds on my tv, now I leave it long enough to see if he is going to be on (his name is Tommy Jones).

All I have to say is WAY TO GO UCONN HUSKIES BABY!!!   BEAT UP ON THAT SEC!!!   I love when I get the chance to actually watch and cheer for my school in something other than basketball!

I used to bowl when I was younger. I was on a league when I was a kid. I don't bowl much now, too expensive for what you get. I like Wii bowling too especially the games where you get lots of extra pins to knock down.

So I'm looking in my fridge for something to eat and see two individual packages of hummus that I bought a LONG time ago. But they're sealed, so I figured I might as well eat them now and be done with it. Well, they kinda taste funny but not really bad, so I'm thinking they're okay. Will I regret this? Does hummus have a definitive expiry date, even when sealed and refrigerated? Sorry if you now think I'm gross for eating it anyway!

Not bowling this year, but I was in a league last year.  It was OK although it lasted too long for me (every Thursday night for 9 months).  Also got to be a little expensive.  My son was on his high school's team for 2 years - they did pretty well.  He tried out for the team when he got to college this year, but didn't make it.  He does belong to the club there though.  It's really the only "sport" he enjoys - probably because he's a decent bowler.

I'll admit that I was rooting for Arkansas in that game (my mom's family is from Little Rock), but kind of felt bad for that ECU kicker.

Speaking of Little Rock, looks like I won't be doing the half marathon there that I had hoped for this yearFrown.  I just don't have time to get my mileage back up to where it needs to be before March 7th (stupid tendonitis!).  I registered for the Go!St Louis half marathon instead.  It's not until April 11 so that gives me an extra 5 weeks to build my mileage back up.  Hopefully I can do Little Rock next year.

Did you say your country club or your gym has a rule about sleeves?   Seriously? When I actually worked out in a gym as long as I wore a bra top and shorts no one complained!

Today was the best.  I get to my health club and the parking lot is packed.  I think "crap, the pool will be a zoo".  nope, me and two old guys....another day of a lane completely to myself and it is peak resolutioners season.  What's up with that?

So here is my question of the day:  I am trying to learn bilateral breathing and my left side is my weak side.   I feel like I raise my head to get a breathe and have a crazy kick to keep me afloat.  Single arm drills do not seem to help me get over this issue.  What else can I do?

So far the year is starting off pretty well.  I had a good 6 mile run yesterday, although due to the weather I ended up doing it at the gym - I was really hoping to get outside.  I went to the gym today for my normal Sunday morning swim and the pool was pretty crowded.  Usually it's just me, maybe 1 other person doing laps and some kids having lessons.  Apparently all the New Year's people decided to come today.  The fitness room was just as crowded.  I managed to get my workout in on the stationary bike, but the next month or so things will be busy there.

Back to work tomorrow - not looking forward to it, although I will be glad to get back to "normal".

I am going to the gym shortly.....I am expecting it to be crowded too.....happens every year.

As for the breathing to the left, I am not sure if this is what you meant from the single arm drills, but this is what I did when I started back into swimming last year. Like you, I never learned to swim and breathe from both sides. I came across a drill where you swim a length breathing to the right, then a length breathing to the left. I remember how awkward that was, but I forced myself to stick with it. Once I got a bit of comfort with that, I started swimming breathing to both sides. The hardest part of that was getting the count/rhythm to feel natural.

i'm sure robert will have some good tips.   i don't know if this is a good idea or not but what if you hold onto the wall, stretch your arms out and kick like you normally would.  breathe left right left right etc...  it seems that this would at least help out with the sensation of breathing left while maintaining a normal kick.  of course assuming you do normally kick.  i dunno.  maybe its a bad idea.

i have a swim stroke analysis on wednesday.  using dartfish 3d motion.  i'll ask them if they have any ideas for you.   and then i'll post my video's up here for all of you to laugh at. ;-).

Yeah, my gym and they're strict about it too. They say something about hygenic reasons and maintaining a family-friendly environment. Once in the summer I wore a tank top on the spin bike and the counter girl came over to me and gave me a t-shirt to put on over top.
