Fred D - 2012-02-10 10:18 AMSoooooooo....I have to get another PRP injection of my left Achilles as it is acting up again. I had one a few months ago and it really helped. I'm told it usually takes 2-3 shots to get full recovery, so I'm hopeful. Definitely a bit stressed though as it will be a week without running it biking.I will be in the pool a lot that week, so at least that's a plus.Injuries definitely affect my overall mood and attitude, so trying to stay positive.
injections suck........

Kim, i am really sorry to hear about your cat.  That is never easy and they become such a part of our lives.  It is so okay to be sad and grieve. It is losing a member of your family ...

Very excited for two things:

1. Lunch at the new Panera bread across the street from work - it's been open for a few weeks but will be the first time i've visited one - ever.  Not too many locations in Canada.  And I am meeting up with a colleague who's been off on mat leave for a year so it should be nice!

2.  Going on vacation in THREE DAYS.  Just checked the forecast and i can't wait!!!! All-inclusive laziness - here i come!

As for workouts, i am with Elaine and just not motivated this week.  For vanity's sake mostly i did a strength workout this morning.  I wasn't super into it to start but managed to get into a good head space once started and it was a good workout.   I should run after work but temps are dipping so i need to HTFU and just do it!

Taking a day off from swimming to rest the shoulder.  That gives me until Monday so that should be a good chance for it to heal up.  Have an interval day on the bike.  I have a friend in town so taking the day off work and I think we are going to hike later.

Today is a sad day though.  I am putting down my cat this morning.  I know it is the right thing to do but doesn't lesson the pain any.  I've got many fond memories though.  Like when she goes after the dogs when they are fighting.  Funniest thing.  Two 70+ pound dogs going at it and in comes the cat to break it up.

Really sorry to hear it Kim.  Our cat turns 20 this month (yeah, 20), and I know the day is coming sooner rather than later, and i am going to be a wreck when it happens.  You gave her a good life...

I've got a 4 hour ride on tap for tomorrow and my long run on Sunday.  Tomorrow's conditions are looking great for a long ride, although it will start chilly.

Thanks everyone for the kind words regarding Shadow.

Long ride (50-60) tomorrow, long run (9-10) Sunday.  maybe a swim in there somewhere.

Don't feel like I have enough "long" rides in for the Calif. 70.3

I know everyone is different, but I had a coach once who said she thought that a 3 hour ride was long for a HIM.   What do you think is a "long" ride and run for HIM?  Miles or time.

Very sorry to hear the bad news about your cat. I'm not really a cat person but have grown quite fond of our overweight barn cat and would be very sad to see her go. As for the weekend? I have a recovery week for marathon training and my bike is lagging behind so I'm thinking after my 6 mile run I might hit up a longish bike ride. Thinking I'll hit a few episodes of Dexter on Netflix.

My weekend is mainly going to consist of deciding whether it's going to warm up (it was -14c/7f last night and is currently -7c/19f) to go outside. If it does (or I decided to see if I own enough layers) I'll be doing yesterday's short run which had to be cancelled and tomorrow will be a 50min run and a swim in the afternoon.

Good thing about this freezing weather is that, for some reason, people don't go to the pool and it's nice and empty .

Good morning all.

I am waiting a little this AM to go running, then maybe a short swim tonight.

While this week will be far my biggest volume week in a long time, I feel good.  I am a little tired, sore and bit lacking in zip over all, but good.  I am pushing my self to that point and this seems very normal for me.  What I mean by pushing is not hard but just enough to get to this point.

Next week 12-18 Feb I plan to go back to around 10 hrs of training with the same intensity as I have been training.  I want to see if I feel any zippier after next week.  Then I want to move into some intensity the week of 19-25 Feb.

Do you think doing a bike FTP test on the 19th Feb is OK?  Should I do some intensity work fist prior to the test ?

Trying to decide how little to wear on my ride today so I wander over to NOAA to check the current conditions and see this "Observation Quality is Suspect".   WTF?  I don't know what that means.  It's ok, I still have time to decide, and the sun should be fully out by the time I venture outdoors.

I have a friend in town this week and that has meant more eating out and more drinking then usual.  My body never appreciates that.  I don't mind it once in a while but a week of it is getting to be too much.  Monday life returns to normal though.  Love having friends visit but I am always super glad when life returns to normal.  I am the same way about traveling.  Doesn't take long before I want my routine again.  I prefer my own home cooked meals.

ETA: I also have to decide how many cookies I need to bring.

Ha, it's still early over here James.  Dark as can be out there still (Tucson has a light ordinance).  We just passed a full moon cycle though.  One of these days I am going to go run at night during the full moon.  I can't even imagine what animals I'll come across given how many I see during day light.

When I still worked in IT I would get up 3:30’ish in the am for a 4am ride with lights.  This way I could get a max of 4hr ride in.  Mostly on rural country roads and in very dark conditions.  Late fall early spring I was dogging all kind of animals, raccoons, possums, fox, dear, turkey and rabbits.

Light ordinance?  What is that you can’t use lights at night.

Fred D - 2012-02-11 11:11 AM

Soon off for a 1h40' tempo ride in the Pyrenees.

WOW that sounds like fun.

10 miler done with the last 3 miles @ a pickup pace.  I am glad I waited because I would have missed the sleet and rain.
