Just cought up on the last three pages of posts.

It has been a very busy couple of weeks. Training is ramping up and my coach is keeping me busy!  On Saturday I had an eight hour training day. (well, eight hours of actual training but  add another four hours for rest and logistics).  I drove to the OWS site and did an hour swim, then had a 1.5 hour "break" which started when I exited the water (so really not a break at all) drove home, threw my wetsuit in the bathtub, grabbed something to eat, swiched out my trainer wheel for my regular wheel and then had a five hour bike ride. After that another break then a two hour run/walk.  I was pretty much shot on Sunday! good thing it was a rest day for me.  I feel  like I am working  harder this year then last year in preparation for an IM, so we will see. My coach is very supportive, checks in with me all the time and is more then generous with her time.  We both did the  Rattlesnake Crazy Back to Back (where the picture of Carla and I was taken) and  watched me run as she passed by and then offered some tips and gave me some exercises based on what she saw. This coming weekend there is a 2.4 mile ows in Boulder that she has me doing.  Fortunately for me it is not a race(it can be for those who want it to be)  and I am not really prepared for the distance (I have been slacking in my swimming but getting better) but it will be good for me to do and while chip timed it can be as competative or non competative as one wants it to be. There is also a 1.2 mile option but I must make myself continue on to the second loop

Like Iceman, I will be at IMWI to volunteer and then sign up for next year.  I am looking forward to it but also a bit nervous to see what I am getting myself into.  Meanwhile IMFL is approaching quickly.  I am so hoping that the water will be calm for the swim. I get sea sick very easily.  I had the Dr. prescribe me those patches you wear behind your ear and I need to try them out to see if they make me tired as I would like to use it for at least the swim part of the race.  Does anyone have experience with them?

Happy Wednesday!

I just wore my wetsuit yesterday it's been nice not to have to wear it but the bay is cooling off - not anywhere near upper 50's yet but noticeable cooler.

It's nice to hear that you foot is getting better!

Happy Wednesday!

I have used them - while they don't make me as tired as Dramamine they definitely give me a dry, cottony mouth for the first couple days. Definately try them out before hand cause I don't think you want cottonmouth for you race!

IceManScott - 2012-08-27 6:14 PM Training is going well for the half IM on 9/23 in Branson.  Going to IM Moo on 9/9 to volunteer, then signing up.  Still trying to unravel the coaching situation.  All good.  Strong and light.

Great work Ice, keep it up!

Wow, that is a huge block of training!  It will set you up nice for Florida!

I have never tried the patches as I haven't had that issue, but you are wise to try them ahead of the race.  When I did the race in 2010 it was quite wavy the couple of pre race swims in the days leading up to the race but race morning the weather changed and it was as flat and calm as a pool!  I hope you get the same!

A new race has just been announced that may have me doing 2 long course races next summer!  I would still like to do IMFL in 2013 but the new race is about 3 months earlier and it is a 20 minute drive from my house!

The are calling it a steel distance race as it is 140.8 miles vs. 140.6 and steel is harder than iron, like at that distance it matters! Should be fun and the venue is attactive!

Long weekend coming up!  Whos racing?

Pretty rainy round these parts! I hit the trainer today. Tomorrow mornings ride is up in the air with the weather!

I bit the bullet today. Met with a coach. I liked what he had to say and we had a lot in common. So I hired him. One thing I'm really excited about is he's into adding some strength training into the program and specifically into Kettle bells! So I'm finally going to get some instruction and get that going. I've wanted to try this since Ice mentioned it way back pages ago!

So Ken, how did the 5k go?

I had a mixed week. I was sick for a few days with a cold that I swear I got from the guy next to me on the flight home from vacation. Luckily, it came in like a freight train (and hit like one too) but left just as fast, so managed to get in a solid second half of the week. Looking forward to a light week leading up to my HIM on the 9th.... maybe get in the extra swimming that I need. I took a demo Adamo Road saddle from my LBS on my long ride and so far I am a fan. I might try their TT version, but one way or another, I think they have a sale.

Robin, glad you are able to continue the running!

I registered for the new race as soon as it opened trying to be number 1! My friend Dud, dexter here on bt did the same. He was 4 and I was 5! I may need a coach just to sort out my race schedule for next year! But how could I pass on a race that is that close?

Glad the 5k went well Ken!

Yes, I started with him right away. I mentioned possibly putting together a basic plan for the winter and re-visiting more personal training in the spring. Ultimately, he left the decision up to me. So, sitting there up 10lbs already from Racine injured unmotivated and with lofty goals I felt it was best to start right away.

Being I was doing the first 2 weeks of Jorge's, I was well set up to do his testing next week. So he started giving me workouts already and I will be testing next week on the bike. Since I'm cleared for swimming he's giving me swim workouts too. As soon as I can run again we are going to start building that too.

Sounds like a good start Brian!

I had a pretty good long weekend with a long run Sunday and a little bit of a ride yesterday.

Everyone else have a good weekend?
