mndymond - 2012-09-03 8:12 AM Morning all. Hope you all are enjoying your long weekend! Just checking in. Im just headed home after a night shift and im ready to sleep. Im planning on getting my long run in this afternoon after a long nap. I may or may not have slept in yesterday after going out sat night and being out later than initially planned...had to party it up at least once while in the big city!

Get some rest.......On the other hand.

Can I interest you in Mont-Tremblant 70.3? Smile

Haha. If I knew where I was going to be in August next year I might sign up. If I end up getting into residency out east I would def consider it! Maybe there will be spots left come March 5 next year! Haha. That is if you don't fill up all the spots with your recruiting skills. Haha

The 70.3 is in June 23rd, but I think you are doing IM France, so doubt it works for you.

I worked in the St. Michael's ER for a rotation.... was interesting.

Ah right...it's the IM that is in Aug. I will be in France and racing on the 23. I've heard that St. Mikes has interesting patients...haha. Although I've had a good share of "interesting" at Sunnybrook too.

Quick ride with the race set up a short while ago.  My baby is all grown up.    I may remove the bottle cage.

Tom - if you were racing a shorter distance I would say to dump the empty cage.  But for the HIM I'd keep it just in case you need to put an extra bottle in there.  The empty cage won't cost you too much in terms of aero.  Something to consider for the future is an aero bottle in this spot.

Nice looking ride.

Thanks Neil.  I probably will drop the empty cage.  Not planning to put a bottle there but haven't decided 100% just yet.  I honestly just used it on long training rides.  Ditched it on race day.  Have a good recommendation for what to put there?

One thought I had for the future is flipping the stem.  Not sure what it will buy me but I wish I thought of that sooner.

I'd keep the cage on there for the race too.  I had a friend who had the same aero drink bottle you have completely fall apart during a race.  Well, not the bottle itself but what was holding it onto his bike.  His race was only an Oly so he made do without it but if something happened during something longer, it would be good to have a backup.

Yeah this group has some great knowledge for sure. I tried a really interesting thing in the pool based on a tip from an ST video on YouTube. Was definitely swimming faster with it. Involved contracting the glutes and hamstrings more to bring the center of buoyancy more forward. The video is pretty goofy, but seems like a good tip.

Here is the link, don't laugh too much at the goofiness....

GMTA ... I literally just posted the same vid in my mentor group. I think the Nemo hat is my favorite ...

A problem with some of the popular ways to get people more horizontal in the water (and stop dragging their legs) such as head down, pressing the T, etc. is that they cause some people to jackknife more at the hips.

However, telling people to arch their lower backs a little and grip a coin between their butt cheeks (not literally, but who am I to judge) almost always yields favorable results.

They aren't cheap, but consider a Bontrager Aero bottle.  They've tested well in the wind tunnel, and on a Speed Concept they test better on the seat tube than on the down tube (not sure if it makes any diference on a Felt).

It's good enough for Chris Lieto!

That's what I have on my P3 and I use it as my flat kit.  I drilled new holes in the bottle holder so that it sits snug down in the bottom triangle of the frame.

Uh ...

I got bored because I'm sick but ACTUALLY taking it easy for once ...

And my fingers kinda slipped on my keyboard and I accidentally registered for IMNZ '13. (Hey, I get an extra Kona lottery ticket with that ... and there are current wicked cheap flight deals from Bali).

Am I in trouble?

Oh and since you have slippy fingers, you might as well register for the Mont Tremblant 70.3 while you are at it.  Tongue out

This is exactly what happened. I couldn't stand the thought of a piglet frenzy without me, so I had to do something to incur jealousy in return!

Huh. When's 70.3 again?

RATS! That's why I didn't even consider it ... same date as Bali Tri. Have all kinds of obligations to be there.

Question to the group

If you had the choice to race

- World AG Olympic distance on the London Olympic course

or

- Vegas 70.3 WC

Which would you choose and why?  An acquaintance may have this decision to make.

To me, the decision would come down to whether or not I wanted to go to a destination race for a unique experience (London) or go test myself against a tough field at a tough course (and get my arse kicked...    .  I've been to Vegas several times to it doesn't pass the destination criteria for me.

Thanks Fred.  This is my number 1 problem, and I've actually been trying to keep my legs relaxed as I was told that muscle tension makes you sink.  Maybe if I actually decide to get in the pool someday, I'll give this a try.
