bcraht - 2012-10-02 12:07 AM Have y'all hear about this?  http://www.runday.com/about.php  I was looking for a run/race to do when I am 'along for the ride' at my SO's agility trial and stumbled across it.  I think I'll sign up Laughing.  The only race where I get to choose the distance and podium!

Sounds like a very neat idea.  Podium, girl!!   Heck, why don't you just win the whole event?

Sounds like a good plan.  We'll get each other through! If I don't freeze on the bike I'm thinking the cool air may be a good thing on the run.

There is acutally a reverse pool try near my house in early December. I didn't do it last year but I'm considering it for this year. Undecided

One benefit I have is that because the humidity is low the cold doesn't feel as COLD as it is in other, more humid areas.

It's amazing how  the country (or world) is so different.  It will be  90* in Florida this weekend.  We won't start to get a break in the heat and humidity until mid october (at least historically that's when it happens) and then it drops way down into the 80*s.  My HIM is 10/28 and i have my fingers crossed that the weather will have cooled off a bit by then!

Good luck with you races and stay warm

So maybe YOU should be sending Melanie and me the warm thoughts. I just got an email from the RD that said they expect the water temp to be mid 60's (yay wetsuit) and that the air temp high for the day is upper 60's.

Looks like I may need you to send some sun, too.  Forecast is now high of 60 (low of 45) with a 30% chance of rain. **FREAKING OUT**  I know it is still early in the week and a lot can change until Sunday, let's hope it changes for the better instead of continuing to change for the worse.  But hey, I thrive off of new experiences and it's looking like I will have many all rolled into one day!

But yeah, even as I was typing my comment about never signing up for a race past mid-Sept I was especially thinking of how Jo and Yanti have so much drastically different weather than I, plus the pod members that are in warm climates.  It is crazy when you think of it.

Yup. It was hot today. Like it is every day. I'll try to float as much warmth over to the chilly Manatees as I can!

WOW I've missed alot while out in the hills of Tennesse without the interwebs, I only survived due to a diet of beer I think.  Mel I am sending some heat wave thoughts to you, as I'll be in DC as well this weekend and don't like the cold. Since it is in the 80's today and my birthday I went for a ride through the coast and hit most of the major bridges cyclists are allowed on here are some pictures-

no pics showing up using my imagination!  I'm voting for a SmileSmileSmileSmile just a wee bit flatter than yesterday but good enough.  so nice to see my gorgeous daughter yesterday though she cried for the two hours we were together coz she wants to go back to Sydney!!!  BUT could mummy come too then no-one will miss anyone.  So cute!

I thought about 5.15 swim squad this morning but then I thought, no let's do the usual Thursday night and maybe squeeze in an extra Friday morning.  I need to do an hour on the drainer tonight - it's going to be about 77 today so I think let's stick the drainer out the backyard and pedal in the evening warmth.  Supposed to do a brick with a 15min run on the end - nah not gonna happen.

Good news DH's stomach issues have miraculously cleared up - now given that I had some stomach thing last week too, I think we both caught what Artemis had just affected us differently - he's eating everything stopped all medication except probiotics and feels great.  He is though still having an endoscopy on Saturday.

Me - I hope to get my hair straightened, it's out of control!  That means I have to fit in long run Friday, long ride before hair do on Saturday - then nothing until Tuesday - yay!

OK Pod. I have my OLY on Sunday and the weather forecast shows a high of 71 and a low of 41. My wave is set to go at 8:10 so I'm thinking the air temp will be in the low 50's. I've not done a race with air temps that low.  I'm thinking my tri shorts/sleeveless top with arm warmers for the bike. I guess I'd have to take time in T1 to dry my arms enough to get the warmers on. What thinks the pod?

ETA: Also, there is a bottle hand-up about half way in to the bike.  I've never practiced a bottle hand-off and am not sure I need one for an OLY. Thoughts?

Arm warmer idea: put them on before the race then roll them down so they look like a bagle/doughnut and take them off keeping them in the rolled up form.  Then in T1 or right when you get on the bike (if stored on your aerobars), put them on your wrists then roll them up (rolling up can be done when wet becuase you're not pushing/pulling them up, just unrolling... ya know?)  Try this in practice.

bottle handoff thoughts:  if you're not in danger of dropping a bottle and you don't need extra liquid, maybe just skip it this race?  (if you ahve 2 bottles on your bike (one water, one energy of your choice (gatorade, etc)) you most likely won't need any more for an oly and therefore wont have to exchange.)  do you think you could just carry your liquid iwth you from the start and bypass this exchange this time?  OR grab a friend and practice: as you come into the exchange area sit up, point and the volunteer you're going to & make sure they know you're their girl, slow down and grab as you ride by.  The volunteer should be holding the bottle at the top or bottom so you're not grabbing their hand as you grab onto the bottle.

Good evening, everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I joined in on Fred's group this evening. I have been lurking over there for quite some time, and I decided I needed to make my presence known. I'll still be over here, too. I hope that's legal.

I had my first phone interview this afternoon with the department chair. It went very well. She wants me to submit a couple more things this week, then she will share with the department my information, and if that goes well, my material will go on to the dean.

Work has been busy, so I need to get in and catch up on my post reading.

Hey Pod! I haven't really had time to catch up on everything but I got some free time today and thought I'd drop in and say hello.

We've been having a great time in SD. Naturally it's always trouble when us siblings get together. Smile

In addition to the ruckus I've been doing a lot of active stuff. Got a good amount of running in. Some biking, swimming and surfing. This gorgeous weather really promotes an active lifestyle whether you like it or not!

On Monday night I was running on the beach at almost 11:00 PM. I looked down and saw a glowstick in the sand, which I thought was a little strange. Then I looked up and saw 50+ glowsticks coming out of the water. I didn't realize what it was at first so I just stood there gawking. It was the Navy Seals! The had swam all the way from their base to the beach I was running on.

Anyway, it's been a great place to taper! I should do this before every race!!
