LaurenSU02 - 2006-01-13 3:01 PM Not sure what qualifies as "met," but if at least invading their personal space, making eye contact, saying hello, or having a brief conversation counts, my list is: Chubby Checker (actually, I did The Twist with him) Wayne Gretzgy Michael Jordan Ron Harper Dr. J Jon Stewart All of Smashmouth Beyonce Jay-Z Brian McKnight Morgan Freeman Kathy Bates Renee Zellweger Edward Norton Kevin Spacey Mel Gibson Diane Sawyer Charlie Gibson Ming-Na Winona Rider Whoopie Goldberg Benecio Del Toro Michael Douglas Of course, I cheated - I used to have jobs that put me in contact with these people.

WHAT was ed norton like?

Out of THAT list you asked what ed norton was like?

I like it.

I thought I had posted this, but then I couldn't find it, so I guess I will now.

I cleaned Ed Bradley's Aspen home once (I worked as a house cleaner in college). He had a fabulous liquor and wine collection and I shined his Emmy. It was already shiny, but I just wanted to say I had done it. I also cleaned for the Estee Lauder family on a near daily basis. They're all neurotic and rude.

I had a picture taken with TORI WELLS while I live in Phoenix back in 1996.

Perhaps some of the men will understand that one.

Members of the Tragically Hip, Junkhouse, the Waltons, TPOH (canadian alt. rock bands, in the early 90's, the Hip are now official canadian royalty)

When I was MUCH younger, I visited LA, and my dad somehow got me into the Dodger clubhouse...this was the Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Pedro Guerrerro dodgers...quite a thrill at the time

Played hockey with/agains Darren McCarty, Ty Domi, Bob Boughner, Ed Jovanoski, throughout my youth...Domi was a 'cementhead' already, at about 12....

Brian Keith, and the other guy from 'Hardcastle and McCormick'...same LA trip, in early 80's

In Iowa we don't get to brush up with the stars all that often...but here's mine...

In highschool pumped iron next to the Hulk Hogan at a local gym, while he was getting ready for a WWF thing. I believe I was doing dumbbell presses with 25's and he was using 120's and doing a lot of reps. My friends were all laughing in the background at how funny I looked next to him, all 5'7", 130 lbs of me.

My band in college opened for Robert Bradley's Blackwater surprise (one hit wonder in the 90's), Lucinda Williams, and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

The only really famous person I've ever met was Ronnie Lott.
Oh, and Cary Kolat. I doubt anyone knows who that is though.....

All the others are famous if you're a Penn State Fan.

Sat next to Donald Sutherland on an airplane after upgrading myself to first class (no, I did not upgrade after I saw him); he asked me if we wanted to switch seats - I was on the aisle.  After the flight, he bummed a cigarette off of me after he saw me in the smoking lounge of the airport.

Stood in line behind John Turturro at the UN.  I remember saying to my brother "that looks an awful lot like John Turturro" under my breath (hence the italics).  Shortly after I said that, John Turturro was pulled aside by UN security for having a gigantic pocket knife in his pocket.  The guards told him they'd have to confiscate it, but would give it back to him at the end of the tour if he would leave his name.  Thus, I had confirmation it was John Turturro.

When I was an intern at a local record label a few years ago, myself and one of the engineers had the opportunity to be back stage in the green room of Snoop Dogg.  I actually got to (ahem) partake with Snoop.  Even got to learn how to play dominoes, too.  Woulda remembered, too, if I hadn't been so freakin' stoned.

Canadian crooner Michael Buble went into the audience at his Summer 2005 concert in Ft. Lauderdale, and I got a hug and kiss.  Met Katie Couric after Michael Buble's concert at Radio City in March.  Shook Matt Lauer's hand while at the Today Show in August 2005 (he's not as tall as he looks on tv).  Got another kiss and hug from Michael Buble at the same Today Show taping (he is as hot as he looks on tv).  Got a picture taken with Anne Curry at the Today Show some years ago.  Got an autograph from former LA Dodger Steve Harvey (long time ago).  Took an event portrait picture of Lily Estefan, talk show host on one of the spanish stations.  I also saw her at the Super Target at the outlet mall just last sunday.  Funny.  Can't think of anymore.

I'm not a Trekkie, however, I met a woman at a hotel-bar in Savannah, Georgia and we talked and talked for the longest time.  Come to find out, she played the character Dax from one of those Star Trek shows, and she was at this hotel in Sav'h for a Trekkie convention.

Saw Julia Roberts at a gay bar in Savannah, Ga.  Man, lots of weird stuff goes on in Savannah....ok, speaking of which - I met Lady Chablis from the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil.  I met Tommy Smothers (going waaay back to the Smother's Brothers days), at his winery in Sonoma Co.

I met Black Spandex Man aka Jim (man he is fast especially in the water), Southern Aqua Goddess (before she changed her name to the goddess, she is too famous now, kinda like prince/madonna known by one name- haha), Janelle, The Gullahcracker , and some others famous people in Beaufort one weekend. I didn't talk to them too much, they had a bunch of groupies buying them drinks and all at a restaurant/bar.... so I didn't bother them with requests for photos or autographs.....wish I had now....regrets .....

I was in the Army with William Rose aka Axl Rose from guns and roses. He was a pretty good guy then, he won the karaoke contest like evry week at the club, and he could run really well. I think he ran the 2 mile ( PT test for the Army) in like 11 minutes and change. I think he even won the soldier of the year or month or something, he was a good soldier. Someone told me he had some Army tatoos still.

When I was at Ft Jackson, Tanya Tucker did a USO concert, and I was on the security detail, she was really nice and traveled with her family. She got all of our (5-10 people on the detail) names and addresses and sent us t-shirts and cassetes (this was in the early 90's before cd's).... She smoked a lot though, so I don't think she could beat Axl in the 2 mile....

But the best experience I had:

I ran the security detail for a uso tour with Garth Brooks once in the early 90's before he was so huge. He as playing a USO tour with a young up and coming Trisha Yearwood (didn't get to meet her, but I think Garth did) He was drinking a pina colado at trader vic's and his hair was perfect...Seriously he was really nice, we talked about baseball, the braves were big at the time and he talked about his regrets about not pursuing sports more seriously and letting one dream go in order to persue another.......he got real philosophical about choices in life and while he does enjoy what he is doing that he felt at times that it was like a roller coaster he could never get off of...at times.....somtheing like that...I think we were both drunk...it was a an enlisted club on base, he was there ( I think) becuase it was a "urban " enviroment with mostly young kids and rap music and no one would recognize him. He bought all my drinks....I still wonder what he was talking about and it haunts me like a bad dream.....a year later I left the security of the Army and chose a different path, probably in part because of what he said, I have no regrets...

We ended up staying up all night and going fishing the next day at Lake Murray with a guide for a local fishing show (he paid for that also I guess)... with some of his roadies (not cyclists, the guys who work for th band). The next day, staying up all night, drinking etc, I told him "I am much too young to feel this damn old" it's an old army saying.....well, he eventually used that line in a song....I wrote him a few times, but I only get the standard response back with a autographed picture back now....and I never got to time him in the 2 mile either..... But I sometimes wonder what he's doing now.

My cousin dated Axl in the GNR heyday.

Ok, I will try to keep this short. I "may" have met someone famous, you be the judge. About 20 years ago, I was riding home from Chicago to Boston on Amtrack. My mom and sister sat together and I sat alone. A gentalman, intorducing himself as Tony Sailor sat down next to me. We exchanged plesantries and mentioned that he was a former balet dancer. Hours latter he mentioned that people may ask for his autogragh, since he looked alot like Vincent Price. When we got to Boston, People from PBS picked him up. At the time Vincent Price was hosting Master Piece Theater.

If it was Vincent, and even if it was not, he taught me how to play dominos, was a restless sleeper, and snored worse than I talk in my sleep 22 hours on a train, in coach, can be a long time

Wayne Gretzky at the departure lounge the day after he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Had a couple of Beers with Don and Ron in the Exec lounge at Pearson.  The Canucks here will appreciate that latter.
