Long weekend followed by late night last night because I stayed up and watched House after the Superbowl. Would it be bad if I took at nap after work and then went to the pool at like 8 or 9? Our gym is open until 11 - the lifeguards would LOVE me... Speaking of lifeguards, the one at my pool today was sitting in the stand wearing windsuit pants and tennis shoes. Bill don't mock the lifeguards!! Glad everyone is off to a good start!! I did 3600 (two miles) this morning too. Go team! |

I'm impressed you turned down a role on Baywatch so you could focus on your training, Grace. Very dedicated. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Hello team. We have gotten off to a good start. The team almost has 10% of the goal done. Of course I have not contributed one yard/meter to that goal. Luckily I have a pretty low goal this month, so I should be able to make up the yardage once I'm feeling better. A little about me. I got on BT a year ago. Did 3 sprint tris last year and had a blast. Discovered the challenge forum in October and have been stuck here ever since. Of course I really don't think of it as being stuck for the challenges and teams are a lot of fun. Since we have such a large team, please everyone help to inspire your teammates. |

Member 16 | Subject: Monday is swim day for me... I swim at lunch and I did 2000 meters (80 laps). I was pretty tired too this morning, kind of felt like not doing my workout, BUT, I did it and I feel much better. My next swim is Thusday. Keep the arms moving and the feet kicking! Later Peggy |

Expert 784 Computerland | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks I have done 4 hours and 10 mins of swimming so far these past few days. I am already almost 20% to my goal and am planning to swim more tonight. This team is so inspiring I may end up increasing my goal! P.S. That surfing video was crazy! Expert 626 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks A warm welcome to you all new BT'ers, you will love this training site. As Ron keeps increasing those new function, it is worth all the fees we pay for the higher membership. Welcome to this sport, and time to get swimming. Also love this group, as you are a heck lot more chatier then my group last month. we did well and finished the goals, but you have almost as many pages of chat then we had for the whole month. Good luck, and get in the pool/lake/ocean's. It may be 42'F in our lake, but I still love those open water swims. They rock. PS. Was able to get my Apnea back to 6min 18sec's last Saturday. I felt good under water. Another year, and should be able to qualify for Worlds Freediving Championship. Go Team USA. Edited by devouahy 2008-02-04 3:07 PM |

That is cold! Though I have committed myself to swimming in possibly-50something degree water in April... |

Veteran 265 | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Wow - alot has happened here in a short time. Here is a little about me - Name is John - I found BT a little over 2 yrs ago- I only read for about the first year - then started running a little. I have continued to add a little more as time has gone by - I have run 1/2 dozen or so 5k's - and did my first sprint - an Xterra - last year. It was a blast! Every time I attend an event I seem to get that much more hooked/addicted & I like it! I still have a hard time being consistent...a very hard time! So finding these challenges has been a blessing - nothing like some friendly "pushing" to keep me in line! I have registered for my first OLY coming up April 12th and while I am sure I can slog thru the ride & run...the swim is my weakest event. So this challenge was perfect for me...gives me the added people to stand over my shoulder & see that I get to the pool as needed - BT'ers have been great about this in the past and I am sure this challenge won't be any different. But I don't want to just slog thru any event - not that I am looking to win anything - but I don't wanna have to crawl across the finish line either......not that I am above that....but I just wanna be trained to comfortably do the distance. |

Pro 4216 Sous Mon Diadème | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Great job everyone! As a side note... let's see... we got Grace (the TERP)... we got Traci, (Ms. Volleyball UMD)... and then there's me. We will try to refrain from breaking out into the Maryland fight song . Of course, because I am clearly much older than you two, when I went to Maryland the Vous was still open. *Sigh*... it's only a legend now... |

Extreme Veteran 506 Lake Placid, NY | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks Just wanted to say hey and that I will indeed make sure I swim my 11,000 this month. With a short month, and a pool at my gym that closed yesterday, requiring me now to travel 20 minutes to swim, it will be a challenge. But I'm doin' it, baby! Let's just say for the record that though I can put a swim, it's the endurance that I need to build. Yesterday was cause for rejoice-- my first continuous 500 without stopping- only cause my trainer SHAMED me into it!! But I am so glad I did it. So, I'm not much of a swimmer, but here I go anyway....pushing my limits and my comfort zone in '08. |

I felt good under water. Another year, and should be able to qualify for Worlds Freediving Championship. Go Team USA. I went scuba diving with a bunch of freedivers once. I was hanging out, watching a fish or something, when one of them dropped down and tapped me on the shoulder. Then he waved and kept on going. That was the first time I realized how noisy my bubbles were! (And realized how much I relied on the sound to tell me where other scuba divers were.) What are you wearing for an OWS in 42 F water? I used to wear a thick wet suit in that kind of water temp - but there's no way I'd have been able to swim in it! (Although I DID float well. LOL) Did you hit 6:18 in that cold lake? 'Cause that would be... well, about six minutes longer than I can hold my breath - especially in cold water! (Even in a pool, I'm horrible at holding my breath.) 6:18 is AWESOME! I was going to ask about your avatar, but you've just explained it. Qualifying for the World's - that is a HUGE accomplishment! Good luck with it! You'll have to keep up updated on your progress. Of course, Dee can't keep from post padding by dropping in and contributing to the conversation but we love her anyway. No new yards this weekend, but I've got my masters swim classes on Tues/Thu. Welcome to all of the new folks to BT. This is a great way to get/stay motivated. Hm, usually, I'd wave my whip in response to comments like that. But in Eric's case, a little GLITTER might be more effective! (Note to all Swimming Rocks - Eric LOVES glitter, especially in his inspires! And if he tells you that he doesn't - well, don't believe him. LOL) |

I have decided to buy a wetsuit because my HIM swim relay is approaching quickly. In fact, I've been considering this purchase for so long that I know that I've found a nearly perfect wetsuit for me - in terms of price, fit, value, etc. Unfortunately, it is black with orange trim and I'm not a fan of orange - at all. The color orange just...I don't know...it just bugs me. So, my question is - has anyone ever tried using a sharpie or some sort of dye to change the color on parts of their tri wetsuits??? I'm just curious to know if this will work, otherwise, I guess I'll have to get used to orange - yuck! |

Member 22 Hamden, CT | Subject: RE: Team Swimming Rocks I've been busy with work for the past few days, but I was able to get back into the pool yesterday and today. This is my second challenge, I ran last month, so I'm looking forward to more pool work this month. I really like the challenges and the mentor groups that BT allows for. It's a great way to keep yourself motivated as well as receive encouragement from others when you feel less than motivated. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you at events this summer, those in New England at least. |
