Ironman Coeur d'Alene (Page 6)

From the time I entered the water there was a steady stream of everything until the finish line. The event is so well organized that it all seemed to flow regardless. I did worry about drafting and penalties-you can't help but get close to 2200 other riders from time to time- but as long as it's momentary don't worry.

Last year I was to the right side of the beach hoping to avoid congestion, but wound up next to the buoys half way out. This year I'm starting out on the left and will try to follow the buoy line from the start so to shorten the distance I swim.

A week from Today, I am hoping to be lounging around the pool eating my breakfast and enjoying my post-race recovery.

I still have a bit of packing to do and I fly out tomorrow night. I was able to score a non-stop flight into Spokane so travel should be easy. (As long as the flight does not get delayed)

I have never met anyone who is doing this race IRL and am hoping to at the swims and other BT get-togethers. If there is one thing that I have learned, it's that a familiar face out on the course is priceless.

It always seems like just when things seem like they are gettin really dark and my resolve is starting to grind down, a fresh familiar face comes by and I feel better

Ironman Village -  what to expect??  So I am pondering the Neoprene cap and booties but do not have them yet....  can you pick up these types of items in Ironman Village??  What else will be there?

Is everyone here looking at wearing the neoprene stuff??

I have the large socks that you can borrow if you want- I've got a cap too, but its a size small- if that will fit you can borrow that, too...

thanks, suzanne, i may just take you up on that.....   i am thinking about making a last minute decision based on the weather.  i'd hate to buy them for this one race......  course in the grand scheme of things that is a drop in the bucket!!!!

I just bought a cap and booties this past weekend and definitely plan on using them.  I found them at a dive shop that I just happened to see a sign for.  Quite timely coincidence!!  I took a little trip to St. Pete Beach yesterday to try them out.  A word of advice if you plan on using booties.  Duct tape them to your feet.  If you don't have the long ones that go halfway up your calf and will be held down by your wetsuit, then you need to make sure you're not creating drag on your feet. 

Also, with the cap...put your goggles underneath it.  If you put your goggles over it, it will tend to move around on your head and release the seal between your goggles and your face. 

Just a few little nuances that I discovered this weekend.  Hope that's some kind of help.

I know it's SUPER early to do this, but I just decided to look at the weather forecast to see how I should be dressing.  Gets cold there at night, I'd better pack some warm clothes! 

Just looked at the outlook for Sunday...low of 48, high of 68...less than 10mph winds.  Can you say "perfect conditions"?  If the water's cold, the 48 degree air will be colder than the water!  Woot!  I personally wouldn't mind the water being warmer than the air.  Let's hope the forecast doesn't deviate much!

Hey, Q.  Hope we meet up this weekend.  The weather.com forecast for CdA has change about 5 times in the last 24 hours.  Bring everything you think you might need!!!

What is this that I hear about the water temp approaching 70???  Is this for real or am I hearing things?

Swam in the lake this morning and it's not going to be 70, I'll tell you that!  It was a bit above 56 this morning though and not bad at all.  I expect it to be 58-ish by race day.

That USGS site has got to be near swamped with everyone hitting it this week!  Another thing to remember about it:  from what I've been told, the temperature sensor we're getting readings from is about 6 feet deep.  So the surface temp should be even a little warmer, as long as the wind isn't blowing too badly.  At least that's what I keep telling myself!
