Expert 1194 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread mammatri's - 2009-03-18 10:39 AM not the dread feeling for me...just eager to race with a 2 or 3 thousand people. Its a great feeling being out there with everyone!! I feel like I've trained enough to survive. That's really all I'm after this time. Well, that and not having to get an IV in the back of an ambulance during or after the race. Anybody have that feeling of dread/eager anticipation at the same time? I'm there. |

Positive thoughts sent!!! I did my first OWS since November today. I have some armpit chaffing from the sleeveless wetsuit, should made for a painful ride today. Sweat and chaffing do not mix! I'm confident in my swim and bike, but have not done more than 6-7 mile "long" runs. |

Veteran 269 Macon, GA | Subject: Spectator Logistics and Info My wife asked me a good question tonight....Where are the best places to see the race. With the transition area a good distance from the finish line. Does anyone have suggestions for the best place to see the race as well as logistics getting back and forth. It looks like there is a parking map - but my guess is that parking is going to be a major issue on race day. Thanks |

Veteran 351 Thibodaux | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread If you look on the course map for the run, there are areas marked as best places for spectators. I didn't see any markings for the swim or bike, though. |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread So last night in our basketball game I was scrambling for a loose ball and jammed my index finger when some dude tried to run through me. Looked at it and the top two knuckles were basically above the other knuckle like my finger had been stacked. So gross. I couldnt pop it out and my first thought was 'great, its broken, new orleans is gonna hurt.' so after cussing out the ref i went to the ER where tehy xrayed it. Found out it was a major dislocation and the bone is chipped. Doc pulled it back out and put it in a sling thing. That felt good. Anyway not a break and I should be 100 percent with no pain for the race. Whew. |

Veteran 351 Thibodaux | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I know what you mean. I'm kind of worried about how much to eat or not eat right about now. I'm actually taking 2 days off this week, too. Sort of weird, taking 2 days off in a week without being injured or having some kind of major time conflict causing me to have to miss workouts. Last long run was yesterday. I hope I'm ready. Guess I'll know soon enough. |

I guess that means I'll have to shower before I hit Bourbon on Sunday evening. |

Veteran 351 Thibodaux | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I did a sprint there in 2005 and that's exactly how it was. I didn't consider the possibility that it would be any other way. The sprint was in July, so it was nice & hot. The brown stuff kind of dripped off with the sweat, so we had brown streaks all down our faces, arms & legs when we were done. |

Yum. Sounds like the Hudson River in NYC so I should feel right at home. A word of advice, especially for the ladies. Wipe your face really good when you finish the swim. The baby fine hairs trap the silt and whatever else is in the water and give you a brown goatee, which is not attractive in photos. Does anyone know the water temp? |

Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I started taper today! Woo hoo! I'm looking forward to the lower volume. I'm still on 6 days a week and largely the same amount of time aside from my long brick/run, but the intensity is lower. After my longest brick (60/5) and run (14) this weekend, I feel ready. Can't wait! |

Extreme Veteran 373 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread latest water temp - 67.6 http://www.saveourlake.org/water_quality.asp I did the triamerica on the north shore last may - the water was dense and full of sea weed. When you got out of the water you had sashes like Mrs America. Edited by microspawn 2009-03-23 9:39 PM |

Regular 95 Lafayette, LA | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread When I did TriAmerica last May the water was full of sea weed. So I would expect the same in April. It was very thick on the northshore, hope it is not so thick on the southside. Still pumped to get it started. And I am also hoping not to over eat during the taper. |
