I'm not sure if it is possible to acclimate to mid-80's with 80-90% humidity.

One of my biggest challenges is not pigging out BEFORE the race. I'll admit it-- I love Mexican food!

Just finished my last long run of 19 miles and one more long ride of 120 miles and then taper. I would lie if I didn't say I was nervous. First IM and hoping I did enough training. We will just see on race day. How is everyone's training going?

great job!

training is going well. did something funky to my knee after my 18 mile run, but with RICE it's getting better quickly. (praying to the tri gods!)

Where is everyone staying? I'll be at the Wyndman Cozumel with my husband, parents, sister and brother-in-law.

Got in a good 110 this weekend, plus paced a friend at a 100-miler run for 25 miles. Even though it was all walking, it still kicked my butt pretty good.

Looking forward to the race! I think it will be a lot of fun.

I'm staying in a private room at Hostelito in town. Hoping to meet some of you guys there, because I'm traveling / racing solo! It's always nice to have some friendly faces around, ya know?

Regarding the bike and wheels, I know discs are out, so are tri spoke fronts. Any other rules regarding wheels anyone has seen? I am thinking of running Zipp 808s but don't want to show up with a front that is too deep. I could do a 58mm deep front and 808 rear, but I'm a heavier rider and never been bothered by winds even running a disc.

I'm excited for everyone doing this race.  I was in Cozumel this past weekend and the island is beautiful.  I drove a beach buggy on part of the course and even saw a couple of people on tri bikes.  Good luck to everyone and have fun.

My wife and I are staying at the Sol Melia after a few days near Playa del Carmen.   Anyone else staying at the Sol Melia - I will be the guy with the pregnant wife getting odd looks from the bartender as to why I do not want alcohol in either of my drinks.

My training has been to plan for the most part with the exception of my long rides that have been significantly affected by the weather.  I have a six hour ride planned for Saturday, so fingers crossed it will be a nice day.

My bike case arrives tomorrow.  Honestly, I am more worried about getting her down there and back without any damage then I am about the race.

It was flat flat flat!  The vegetation on the part of the course I saw was ~10' high and blocked the wind for the most part.  Even right on the beach the wind wasn't too bad.  I was on the Southwest side of the island.  The road was also very new and looked smooth.  I snorkled on the south end of the island so I doubt the swim is there but for ~50 yards the current was pretty strong.  Even with fins on I was being pulled backwards so I eventually just relaxed and would kick in between waves.  Once I got past the break it wasn't too bad.

Very flat course, smooth roads, and hopefully reasonable winds and temps will make for a very good bike day! Combine that with a 3 loop course, though; and it also may take a couple of Xanex to control anger/disappointment at the inevitable drafting that will occur. Just keep repeating "my performance against my goals is all that matters...".

My wife and I are staying at the Wyndham Aura (adults only).

After attempting to find it on the Wyndham website (which had it located in the middle of downtown!) I called. Apparently website was WAY wrong. We are next to the Wyndham Cozumel (?) and supposedly 10 mi from the airport. Can anyone verify this for me?

check out this map

Aura is #1, and looks like it is well south of downtown (near Chankanaab). You might also want to do a search on tripadvisor.com and see what other info you can get. Looks like a nice place

I am ready to pull the trigger on silverman, but I will wait to read some stories on this race.  Something about fighting humidity rather than mountains sounds more appeling to me, but cost is the biggest factor.

great luck to you all!!

What do y'all think about going scuba diving before racing -- too risky? I have been debating if I should bring my dive mask and log along.

Not sure. Do you normally feel any negative affects after diving?

If it was me I would wait until AFTER the race to dive !

What is everyone going to do about transportation? We've got a vehicle rented but was just told by someone who travels in Mexico a lot that the insurance is pretty high (30-40 dollars/day). Anyone got experience with this?

I know the website says no wetsuits, but does anybody think there maybe a chance?? Since on Oct 24th it was 79 according to the race director.
Also, there has been discussion about spoke wheels. I know disc wheels are out, but I have HED 3C. I have raced florida IM two times on these wheels with no issues, even with wind. Any thoughts??

I personally would not rent a vehicle. Transportation on the island is very easy. Cabs everywhere. If something happens, it is hard to defend your case, unless you are fluent in spanish. Just my two cents.

I would, just do a relaxing dive. I wouldn't do it the day before, but a couple days before, sure.   Just be sure to hydrate well.

Oh, and I'd dive with Christi at Blue XTSea diving

Ditto, will have my wetsuit just incase and also bringing a speed suit. I'm a bit worried that even if the race ends up being wetsuit legal of getting really warm during the swim in mine.

I've ordered an Xterra Velocity ++ speedsuit. Kinda hard to pass up on the 50% off deal. My wet suit is a 5 year old Xterra Vortex that is still going strong.
