Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread David tri's - 2009-09-05 8:25 AM Hi everyone! I'm thinking about signing up for the B2B. I just finished Louisville and am feeling like I need one more IM distance race this year. I'm on the fence because I won't have any jockstrappers coming with me. After KY I needed my wife to get my S/B gear and make sure I got back to the hotel ok. How is the post race aid for this one? I've read a few RR from last year and it seems like an awesome race but I didn't find anything on post race help. Anyone have any info? Thanks! I am doing B2B. That be way cool to meet my BT Ohio buddy! Hope I want to do another ironman after doing my first - u rock! Edited by keyone 2009-09-05 2:35 PM |

Expert 749 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread I for one am ordering wetsuit booties for that swim! Not only will the water be COOOOLD, but it's a long run out of the water over to transition, I saw a lot of people with numb feet trying to run across the paved ouchy road! |

Not only will the water be COOOOLD, but it's a long run out of the water over to transition, I saw a lot of people with numb feet trying to run across the paved ouchy road! I got booties and a neoprene cap! I can't stand being cold! I also read one race report from last year where the guy opted NOT to use the wetsuit strippers, because he wanted to stay warm during that long run to T1. That was brilliant! |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread You warm weather folks from down south are so funny Neoprene hats and booties, those are the temps were all ready training in on some of the cooler mornings, thou it has been a cool summer. I'm more worried about a late season heat wave when I come down that way in November. How far to T1 and is the surface rocky or in rough shape or are you just worried about the cold thus the need for booties? Edited by rottieguy 2009-09-07 11:09 AM |

Expert 749 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread I am such a cold weather wimp!! Booties both because of the run & the cold. It's a decent little hike - through a parking lot, across the street and down the road about 50 feet or so. Has anybody mapped it out before? Last year it was in the 30's in the morning for race start - brrrrrrr! Water temps were mid to low 60's I think - anybody have the exact temp last year? |

Elite 2552 Evans, GA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Swam about two miles on the Augusta 70.3 course against the current and then back with the current and it felt pretty good. I figure if I can do that then 2.4 with the current should be no problem. Very happy with that. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread A group of us were planning on doing some "on course training" and needed some clarification on the routes. We emailed Jeremy from SetUp. Here is his response. Hope people find this useful. YOu can not train on the bike route as it is on 12 miles of interstate now. So the current map is the correct map to train on as it is 90% the same route. As for the run it is simply the same route, 6.5 miles out, then turn about and return to the battleship before doing the same route again. So it is 2 laps of the out and back. Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread From the email on the course changes. But looking at a map of the area it looks as though we may have to ride up I-40 then to I-140. That's the only place I see MLK crossing. Anyone know for certain? |

Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Not positive BUT I think you're right about using I-40....when I've been to SC we go I-40 to the Battleship and then "turn" and when we were coming back this year I made a little more attention and it seems like that's the way to/from the Battleship, etc..... |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Things have been quiet here for awhile. Everyone should be getting into some tough training. We only have 8 weeks, Yikes! Did a HIM on Saturday and worked on pacing and have a good idea on how I want to attempt things in November. Hope everyone is doing well and staying free of any injuries. |

We only have 8 weeks, Yikes! Did a HIM on Saturday and worked on pacing and have a good idea on how I want to attempt things in November. Hope everyone is doing well and staying free of any injuries. Yeah I have pretty severe plantar fasciitis and haven't run (with the exception of the Chicago Tri and last week a 5-miler) for the past three weeks. I'm thinking my 4:30 marathon goal is but a dream. It was really too ambitious anyway. I'm going to set more realistic goals as the race approacheth. I am doing the Redman HIM this weekend in Oklahoma City and then a century ride followed by a 2-hour run a week after that. I volunteered at IMWI this past weekend and am inspired. I should say confident. I am starting to think I can actually do this thing, knock on wood. I just hope not to blow up. The swim start is daunting, to say the least, with all the bodies thrashing about. I'm not the strongest swimmer and tend to freak out a little every freakin' time, even after 20 or so triathlons. So getting pummeled over and over, while nothing new, sucks if it lasts the whole 2.4 miles. Sheesh I'm nervous just thinking about it. |

We only have 8 weeks, Yikes! Training!?!? You are SUPPOSED to train for a full?? Next time mention that more then 8 weeks out!?!?!? Is everyone registered for dinner, transport to water and awards cruise (or some combo of what you need)?? |

253 | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread I am registered for the full, but am apparently not receiving any of the email correspondence! Anyone know whom to contact and where (number or email)? Please, thanks. I have completed two centuries so far, 17-18 MPH average, and another 70, 80, and 90 mile ride. Long runs each week are adding one mile (this week at 14 miles) and will peak at long run of 18 miles probably. Also intend to do two more century rides. Also, swam 2.4 miles in a 25 meter pool Monday night, with my wetsuit on, trying to let the legs recover (1:07:28), so feeling confident with that. Ben |
