Master 1639 Robbinsville NJ | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Got 5 plus in last night but nothing today. Plan on getting 5 plus in both Sat and Sun unless I switch to a bike ride on Sunday as may be too nice for this time of year to pass up. |

Regular 60 | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Hiya folks, Sorry I'm a little late to the party. I'm Riley, aka xTriRiTrix. I'm a 30 y.o. single guy who has been overweight most of his life. I've tried lots of things to get the weight off, but nothing's really worked for long. In June, I sprained my shoulder while wrastlin' with a friend. [Best thing that could have ever happened to me!] I found myself unable to do anything, so all of a sudden, triathlons seemed like a good idea. It was so weird! I'm looking at an Xterra in 2011 most likely in terms of planning. For this October, my goal is to do two strength training days and three cardios a week (swimming, water running, run/walk) and to stick with it. In addition, I hope to go to my water aerobics class each week as a super secret bonus goal. I'll plot this stuff on the goal chart soon. Apologies for not getting here sooner. I've had some big deal life stuff to tackle these past two days. Edited by xTriRiTrix 2009-10-02 2:40 PM |

I decided just this week to tive compression socks a try. I picked up a cheap pair at the local drug store, and wore them after my long run this week. I have to say, they really do seem (for me anyway) to help with recovery! I was so happy with the results, that I ran out and bought another pair! My fiancee busts my chops for wearing them without shorts, but hell I got a great bubble butt (years of playing hockey) and why not let everyone enjoy it HAHA This statement is useless without pics to back it up! |

Expert 1076 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge No running today, just biking and swimming. Commute to work, swim on the way in, and a commute home still to come. Going to be an interesting training weekend. 20+ mph winds here both days on the forecast. Scheduled for a two hour run Saturday and then a 100mile ride Sunday. What's everyone else got planned? |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Grats on the century. I did a century in nasty winds, it was very draining. I hear it builds character though 8). I have a Swimex. I converted my garage by digging a pit 12 x 20 by 6 foot deep through the slab and adding a foundation there, adding windows and filling in the garage bays with a real wall. The actual swimming area is 7.5 feet by 14 feet (or something like that) 50 inches deep. It is powered by a 7.5 hp engine moving a 3.5 ish feet diameter paddlewheel that creats a current up to 3.5 mph (in 1 percent increments) that is side to side as wide as the pool and like 20 inches or so deep. It is programable so you can make it do warmup 10 minutes at 2:20 per 100 then 5 minutes at 2:00 per hundred and then 1 minute at 1:50, etc.... When I am done with the swim I can just turn in the jacuzzi jets and relax. You can also use it for jogging against the current should I ever need low impact recovery jogging from an injury. I am really stoked. The garage has become a 25 x 25 foot finished room with nice tile and such with a patio behind it through the sliding glass door that used to be a wall. I will try to add some pictures next week. I still need to buy some furniture for the room, oh well. As for this weekend I have a 90 minute run tomorrow and a 30 minute run on Sunday and I will have to add some off plan swimming in just because I can. Edited by Baowolf 2009-10-02 6:29 PM |

Master 1322 Chicago | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Wow - I'm envious of Baowolf's swim set up too. Sounds sweet. I don't think the city of Chicago would ever let me dig something like that here. I have to settle for the university pool, but at least its not that expensive if I buy they yearly membership. I'd probably swim more if it were in my backyard though! I did my first of 15 runs last night and it was my farthest one shot run ever... not just this year. I was tempted to keep going to hit 9mi (2hrs), but with my weight I'm always worried about injury. That's a lot of pounding force on my poor feet. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge JRowe81 - 2009-10-02 9:40 PM Kathy good luck tomorrow... what part of mass you in too? Near Foxboro but race is in Gloucester. With the rain, 75 women racers meaning crowded course, and tough course, I felt it would be a bit dangerous so went back to bed and am spending the day with my family. Now big decision do I go tomorrow....let's see what the weather does. |

Expert 1076 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Afternoon team! Got my long run in this morning before the winds started. Quick stop at home, then off to son's baseball game. A rush after that to get to the family YMCA fun run/walk. Now a 15 minute break before son's karate practice. Then it'll be time to relax tonight! Think we have enough activites going on in one day? Gonna try and get out really early in the morning for the long ride. Will be cold and dark, but might be able to get a lot of the ride done before the winds pick up. |
