Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I have a cycleops which I like. Back when I got it, that is what most folks purchased. I think in recent years other brands are as popular. I'd be sure to invest in a trainer tire Continental makes one that is orange and another tire mfg just started making one that is red. Compound is different so you can't ride the tire outside but trainer won't burn up and ruin your tire. |

Any suggestions? I'm looking at the cycleops fluid 2, kurt kinetic fluid, or comparable blackburn fluid trainer. I got the Cyclops Fluid 2 around October of last year, and have put a LOT of miles on it. It's quiet, offers plenty of resistance, and I have had zero problems. |

Expert 885 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I have a Cyclops as well. Don't know if money is an issue for you or not (I know you are a student), but Jack and Adams is selling a trainer WHEEL. That's going to be one of my Christmas gifts. It comes with a trainer tire. Even though I need the practice of changing a tire, this way I can switch quickly from the trainer to outside if I want. |

I ride with power and only have one trainer wheel so that option doesn't work well for me. |

I'm sure many of you like me have been thinking about training and other races we will do prior to IMFL. So what are you guys thinking or planning on for races? training plan or coach? This is what I think I will do race wise... 4/25 Lonestar HIM 6/5 Mooseman Oly 6/19 Patriot HIM after 2nd HIM take mid season break 8/29 Cranberry Oly- sub 3 9/25 Chesapeake IM aquabike 11/6 IMFL I may stick in a sprint or two if it makes sense. I'm like having a coach and have for last 5 years. I did change coaches for this next year and am excited to start structured training (ie follow a plan) in the next month or so. |

I'm trying the Cobb V-Flow Plus now and I'm still getting numb about 25min into ride on the trainer. Also, tried the Adamo buit didn't like the way it felt. It felt as though it was digging into soft tissue. Anyone use the Selle SMP saddles? |

Expert 885 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I was just thinking this morning that I need to get 2010 races/rides nailed down. I've got a few on the calendar already that I do every year. Just need to look at the other stuff and how it fits in with training. This is what I'd like to do so far: 1/24 - 3M Half Marathon 2/14 - Austin Half Marathon March - there are 3 weekends with organized pay rides; will do one or two of at least 60 miles 4/11 - Cap 10K 4/24-25 - seriously looking at doing the Lonestar HIM 5/8 - Armadillo Hill Country bike ride (100 miles) 5/31 - Cap TX Tri Oly? 6/6 - America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride (100 miles) 6/20 - Lake Pflugerville Tri Sprint July and August - not sure 9/25 - Looking at the Redman HIM or full Aqua Bike 10/16 - Outlaw 100 bike ride (100 miles) ? 11/6 - IMFL!!! |

I've ridden one last two years..first year rode a little wider one and this year bought a narrower one the Glider which fits my bum shape better. Only issue I ever get is that the spot where it hits the intersection of my leg and bum hits the saddle gets bothered at times and it is like I break out but in scheme of things so much better then other issues I had..my private parts stay happy. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread saddles and trainers: Saddle: my advice is to go to a professional fitter now and try several different saddles and have them fit you to the best comfort/power ratio they can. it doesnt matter what any of us tells you about which one we like. what matters is what fits you so don't rely on other opinions for such a personal choice. trainers are pretty similar and those you can rely on other opinions on. i use the the kurt kinetic and got it from all3sports when they do their coupons. or you can use ref : Arnett to get 15% off. the bigger issue in my view is training with or without power data. it can really help you training and racing. so strongly consider getting a training wheel with a Power Tap laced into it. You can then put a wheel cover on it cheap and it will function like a disc rear wheel during a race. it will work fine on the trainer and the data becomes invaluable. another option might be to get the PT300? from saris which is a spin bike with power data. Ive seen a couple on slowtwitch.com classified lately for 800 -1000. then you are set in a different, albeit, important way. there are some good threads on BT about saddle sores, sore arses, etc if you dig around. i have used all the creams, buttrs, etc. Assos seems to help me the most. Also I try the 400 mile desoto bike shorts for my longer rides. they have helped alot too, and the assos bibs. |

Timberman will be a great race. Finding the right coach is important... Will you train with your best friend when your schedules allow? I am an information technology analyst and support 24/7 live systems that process debit and credit card transactions. I'm on call one week out of two. Some on-call weeks can be very quiet just like the opposite can happen from time to time. I am very much looking forward to Timberman, my triathlon club is making this one a destination race. 15 of us have already committed to this race. I was coached for my HIM this year and was not pleased with the interaction. Even if this issue would have been rectified, I would not have used the same coach because of the absence of experience in IM training and racing. My friend and I will be training together on the long runs and rides. The shorter workouts will be done together whenever possible. She is in the same on call predicament as me but works as a nurse and gets to be on call one week out of five or six. Her on call schedule is a lot easier to manage than mine for sure! 2010 will be a great year! Edited by Nats 2009-12-01 1:36 PM |

Veteran 345 Chesapeake, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread mikerunkle - 2009-11-30 9:25 PM Ok, well today is the day. Following the car vs bike damage to my achilles tendon and after 4 months of "conservative" treatment, then surgery then 4 months of physical therapy, it is time to hop on the treadmill and try running. I've been swimming and biking and doing quite a bit of walking. Only pain/stiffness in the morning and after sitting motionless for too long. I'm feeling pretty optimistic. Going to go for a big 'ol one mile. No more, no matter how good it feels. Then observe it for 48 hours. If good, then it'll be time to get things started (albeit REALLY slowly, no need to push and screw this up again). Wonder if running with my fingers crossed will throw off my gait.... And we're back!!!! One mile down! Bring on IMFL 2010!!!!!!!!!! |
