Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread I've done one of RD Keith's races up in NH since '05 and always enjoy the race and how he works on improving things year to year which is a big reason I'm signed up to do Lonestar as I knew it would be high quality race. The early June race can be hot or cold and he has plans for both..warming tent at swim exit when it is cool. I ran today and it was over 90...hope it doesn't get that hot as I don't do well in hot weather and running well I slow down a lot. |

keith has thought of everything...you'll have plenty of supplies to keep you cool. not much shade on the run, but it's a great race...as you know from doing other keith events!!!
good luck and enjoy |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread KathyG - 2010-04-06 9:33 PM It's going to be over 80 tomorrow and my plan has just a swim so asked my coach if I can run in heat of the day tomorrow..he said sure. I am trying to run as much as possible when it's hot here in MA to help me prepare a little for warmer TX weather. One nice thing about IM races compared to HIMs is run is typically cooler for BOPers where HIMs we run mid day when it's hot in HIMs. Do you guys that have done the race before remember on run was the water cold? Did they have ice you could take? What the weather was like start of race? on bike? on run? Any shade on the run? -Yes, I remember all the beverages being cold. - I don't remember ice, but I do remember cold sponges that were excellent - Weather at the start two years ago was a little misty, and maybe last year a little foggy, but not bad then it burns off as the day goes on and the heat comes on - Not really much shade, a couple of places you'll hit it, but not really |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread It's weird to be in the old ladies wave....all us 45 & over in one wave..not many I guess...Marcy, 55 in our AG. I don't like that all the women are at the end which means we are out in the heat of the day more...but perhaps the bike course will be safer without men passing us. But who will we have to pass? 1117 12 7:55 F45-49 Red Kathy Graves |

It is pretty cool next year I age up to 50-54. I'd never have thought 10 years ago I would look forward to turning 50...but I am now with tris as big part of my life. |

Suzy Shain HIM Bib #1104, Wave 12, 7:55am Sprint Bib #668, Wave 7, 7:24am So three BT women who are all speedy swimmers in first wave of women. I don't think it is always men then women for 70.3s. Here in MA often women go last in races and when I've done St. Anthony's down in FL one of the biggest tris in US men always go first. I've done 40+ tris and have never done a race where all women went first. It makes race dynamics interesting. I can understand the idea of not having women out on the bike with lots of men passing them. In general women are slower than men so have them go last in long race and running when it is hot means roads are closed longer and those fast folks have to wait longer to awards and all that. I guess for once I'd like to see women go first but I'm not in charge..yet |

Yeah when I sign up for races next year bumping up to the 40-45 AG, funny to look forward to aging up, hehe hopefully those guys are slower than the 35-39. |

I was kind of looking forward to being in a new age group this year......until I saw that I'm in the LAST swim wave. I've never been in the last swim wave (although I guess somebody has to be). Just have to not let it get to me mentally knowing everyone else started in front of me. I'll be #1451 in the W40-44 age group. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Lone Star Triathlon Festival - Half Iron : Official Thread I'm actually looking forward to tapering. I've had my 5th or 6th week of ~5 hours of running with many weeks of 1:45-2:00 long runs, a few big weeks of biking, and swimming well is swimming. Last few weeks I've been doing same weekly volume as I did before last year's IM. Have we decided where we are going to meet for a BT lunch race weekend on Saturday? |
