Kman2011 - 2010-05-17 9:32 PM 10:00 at the Park works  for me, let me know if anything changes

Actually Bryan...would it be ok if we made it 9:00? That way we can be done around noon and still be able to enjoy the rest of the day???

If not, no worries...I was just curious!

Actually, I kinda wanted to start at 9:00 too, so that would be perfect for me.

Have any of you Racine experts done IM Lou?   Can you tell me how the hills compare on the two bike courses?  Thanks!

I did IMKY.  The courses aren't similar.

IMWI and IMKY courses are more comparable.

Does that mean that IM Racine is pretty flat?  Any out of saddle hills?  IM Lou has a couple I have to stand up for.

Hey everyone! I would love to join on the ride this Sunday! 9 am sounds good to me...but what speeds are we looking at? Feeling pretty strong on the bike but haven't had as much outdoor rides due to the weather we have been having! My swim is coming along but can't wait till we can get into the OW! My run was coming along, was up to 10 miles but am having some hip issues that has stopped my running for the last 2 weeks, I go for an MRI and xray sometime this week.(just saw the dr today) Hope whatever is going on will be taken care of soon!

Hey Kim...yes! Please join us!! I have never riden the HIM course, so I can't imagine I'd be up for going super speedy.

I will be bringing the map/turn by turn directions with me in my bento box.

My long practice rides vary from 15-18 mph...

Hope you come!!  Everyone/anyone else...see you at the park at 9:00.

I've never ridden the course either....speed sounds good. Will need to look for directions for the park. Looking forward to riding with everyone!

it really depends.  i've never done a hill at racine HIM that you had to stand up for but my torque at the pedal and cassette might be different than yours.

IMO Racine is flat.  I think I remember two hills.  There is the one coming out of T1 which I think you definitely have to stand up on.  There was another,  not too serious.  Again, this is a flat course.  IMWI -> not flat!

yes, there are several rollers...but I've never had to stand up on them.  However, not everyone rides hills the same and over the several times I have raced this, I have seen a few athletes stand up to ride over hills...but I don't know if PMT would be one of them.

hope you guys have a good ride... sorry i'll miss you... however i'm going to go out and hit up some hills that morning due to hhh coming up....

please report back on what shape the roads are in... i've been out on it a few times the past week, and the parts i've biked seem fine... but i recall some parts last year (the frontage road on the west side of I94) that were pretty choppy...

It was great meeting and riding with everyone today. I was surprised by how quickly it got hot as we got away from the lake, so I'll have to start thinking more about hydration and nutrition, if I plan to run 13.1 miles after the bike. Definitely a wake up call for me.

I am curious if anyone wore a GPS unit while biking the course.  I'm looking to see total elevation climbed.  I know there was a discussion about who has to stand up versus sit to take on the hills on the course, I don't care about that.  I am looking for stats, as in there is 2,000 feet of climbing over 56 miles or 1,000 feet or whatever.  Does anyone know this figure?  I have a training route that has about 1,700 feet over 40 miles, so I need to know if I need more hill training or not.  Thank you

you can also map it out on mapmybike or gmap-pedometer and it will give you elevation change as well.  i've found it to be just as accurate.

FYI-we were told when we got up there by a Racine cop (who does the race every year) that IM was changing the bike course this week.

Not sure how much will change....

ha ha ha, I love how they say:

"Ironman PERFORM sports drink features state-of-the-art C2MAX carbohydrate blend, found to deliver 20- to 50-percent more energy to muscles and improve endurance performance by 8 percent."

but don't say compared to what.

I mean, plain orange juice delivers 100% more energy to muscles compared to water...
